I spent summer '68 working for Temple Organs in Burlington, the firm that created the pipe organ for this beautiful church. That summer I was invited to present a public organ recital and I also recorded and produced a 33-1/3 rpm album of Favorite Hymns on their three manual organ. Some history of interest: the first principal organist of the RLDS World Headquarters AUDITORIUM in Independence, MO., BETHEL KNOCHE was guest organ soloist for the dedicatory recital here in 1967.
I loved that church so much! I didn't go to church there, but I've been in it so many times! It was like my second church. I still can't believe someone would want to do that to a church, especially one so pretty as this one!
I live in Burlington, they still have the street in front of the church blocked off by an eight to ten foot high fence, and the psycho that did it is an ex co-worker of mine, a real whack job.
