@Aureleann there are very many inconsistencies and inaccuracies in this movie. but it is a movie after all. too bad many people will base their opinion of judaism on a movie. but this is what it is.
@vikula1 The judging problem is the same for any group. My dad pointed out more often than not when a criminal was about to executed in the old movies, it was a priest who followed them to the chamber, which made it look like most criminals where Catholic.
At some point in the movie, she refers to her husband with a word that means 'ascetic'. Does anyone remember the word that she used? It sounded something like 'tsotic'. Perhaps that is an alternate pronunciation of 'ascetic'?
I just want to add: I have nothing against the Jews. Jesus railed against the ones who "made the law of Moses of no effect". This means He criticized the teachings of the Talmud that went against the Torah.
The Talmud is not against the Torah. Here, even the Talmud is twisted by an individual who covers his abuse thru the prohibitions of gossip and slander and the community's general naivete

Isn't 7:34 most unlikely? I mean that a hassidic woman should "swear", like this? Saying "Sonia, my G-d!"

Are you perhaps thinking of "tzaddik"? It's often pronounced "tsodic", and it refers to a person who is righteous.

@bigpinkears - she was referring to him as a "tzaddik", as judeakah mentioned.

Interesting so far, but they really mixed up the communities, their customs, their clothing, their accents... It makes it all a lot less authentic.
thinkgood 2 years ago
but perhaps more...accessible...that's not really the right word...to Jews and non-Jews alike?
that said, i am a stickler for authenticity, too, and would personally have preferred it.
