That, or are you a parasite, leeching off the efforts of others while living on welfare and social grants.

It looked like your friend shot that thing with a reel. If he did he's a brave man. I don't know if I could risk shooting a marlin with a reel although my buddy stoned a sailfish with a reel on his gun. Good on ya and congrats on the fish of a lifetime
@ocwhiteguy85 He first shot it with a float line. He used my reel gun for the kill shot. Considering the depths we dive on this spot a float line isn't really that efficient (or wise) at that stage my mate couldn't dive deep so was restricted to 25m. He has since won the SA Champs in 2008 at sodwana and become a great diver.
On a side note, top SA spearo Jaco Blignaut shot and landed a big Marlin with a reel gun and Chris Coates (IZTV) landed one of 150kg which he pretty much stoned.
just like you said dude -whats that guy gonna eat 2 nite ---chicken-red meat-fish ---- lol ---i wish i could do that one time in my life .nice VID mate keep'm come'n : )
same old excuse to vindicate spearing billfish, saying by eating the fish its ok to kill it. if you want to eat fish then eat fish lower down the food chain. spearing billfish is the same as shooting tigers or lions or any other apex preditor. you dont see tiger on the menu at a grill do you? you do it for the rush and excitement the same reason tigers are shot by hunters who want that rush but you use the excuse that eating it makes it ok. there's other fish to spear or why not use a camera
So I suppose you reckon I should rather eat something like a bream or other "ugly" fish. Let's look at the facts! That Marlin is 2-3 years old, and they have a life expectancy of 10-15 years. Reef fish are slower growing and may take up to 15 years to reach sexual maturity. Lions and tigers are competely different in tha you cannot eat the meat and only the skin and photo is taken. No comparison there mate. I suppose the steak and chops you buy at the store just "magically" appear there hey?
Furthermore, my mate has had several other opportunities on Marlin and not shot them. So yes we actually do practice sustainable fishing (spearfishing is THE most sustainable fishing there is) bet you can't dive 30m (100') on breath hold and shoot fish! But you'll also shit yourself and scream like a litte girl when a few Bull sharks come swim around you and take a fish out of your hands.
All in all you're a hypocritical chop and probably on anti-depressants to cater for your insignificance

i hate people fishing... there are so many ways to do extreme sports, why do people want to kill animals? do they feel stronger then? do they feel like real men? sorry, but you are not! thats just disgusting!
So that Steak/Chicken/Lamb/Fish you eat magically appears in shops but because you didn't kill the animal that's allright. Ditto for the leather upholstery in your car. All the fish I shoot are edible and all have been consumed by people. I do not and never will, advocate the hunting of any animal for purely trophy reasons.
hey dingoprairie u probly have never gone spearfishing and it is way more extreme than fishing with a rod u tool ... u r probly just a little 15 year old kid that doesnt hav a social life and never gets off the computor and says he has done stuff to boast but hasnt u little fag
Dingoprairie is talking about something he knows absolutely nothing about. Freediving is a widely respected sport and only a few people can do it due to currents, blackouts, sharks, waves, and many other factors. Even some of the best die in the sport, RIP.Corryv dives deep and no it's not easy. What Dingo is saying is BS because if he really knew how to dive, he would not be saying what he is saying. He's jealous of Corryv's skills. That's y he is criticizing.Plain and Simple.
you're a coward. You think you deserve respect for using a speargun to kill a big fish? Any retard could do it. This is no "sport", it's an ego thrill for sadists who have no use to the world.
Oh, and I suppose sitting on a boat drinking beer all day waiting for the thing to bite a lute is what "real" men do? You are welcome to come diving with me if you think any retard could do it. We dive to depths in excess of 30m holding our breath hunting fish. US Wildlife considers spearfishing to be the only sustainable form of hunting as we select to the individual which fish we want. Oh and don't mention "catch and release", I've seen billfish released totally buggered and with no chance.
Who "buggered" them? cowards and sadists like you.. any retarded cowardly sadistic creep could do it. It's a hobby for sadists. Somehow make the fish have a speargun i'd like to see you faggots crying with a spear through your guts and see how much of a "man" you are then. I've dived deep without scuba, it's nothing to brag about, your strutting around about that is pathetic.
And yes, it isn't a sport. It is hunting (to the extreme) in which only an elite few can partake. If it was easy then everyone (including you) would probably do it.
Those that can, do. Those like you who can't, try to cover up their own insecurities and lack of ability by attempting to make us feel bad. Sorry for you.
"extreme sport" my ass, you're such a pathetic case. I've done everything you do and I don't boast about it, and I never needed to inflict death on everything around me. Let's see you swim with great whites without a cage or a spear. You'd be wetting your pants and crying even thinking about that. Sorry you're safe and there's nothing even remotely "extreme" about what you do.
just block dingoprairie he is saying everyone's a sadist and is searching for videos just to find someone to offend. He is too immature and should be ashamed
Thanks bru, but I am losing no sleep over people like dingoprairie. I have seen 3 G.W.S's this year and been grabbed on the foot by a Bull shark and still dive the Protea banks. AS I always say, Those that can, do, those that can't well, dingoprairie is a prime example. Also I don't need to block him cause then everyone else won't see what a dick he (she?) is
Nice fish Corry. 30 meters is decent diving respect to you. Keep up the fun and enjoy life. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing more adventures. Love to see some shark footage too! It's always funny when they are bothering someone else and not me LOL!! Cheers
Thanks mate, picked up some hassles with my camera housing and have to get that sorted out before I can post anymore vids. Heading for summer our way and will then get some good footage of sharks. When those Zambies (Bull sharks) start packing up it can get real scary.
LOL we get them too but not like the schools you guys get, and whalers, freaky when they start getting testy! I had problems with my housing(Sony) as well. Couldn't take the recoil from my Riffe. Tore the tripod mount out, being trying different methods to try and get a stable video of me nailing fish ever since! Thinking of getting a new set up from IKELITE. Bring on summer, safe diving!
I don't know what facts do you mean when you say say, most released billfish end up dead after release. The only moron here is you!
You are a shameful guy trying by all means to justify killing billfish. Ohhh by the way let me give you a clap for swiming around sharks !!who the hell cares? hope the next time brave diver, the shark doesn't miss your leg, that way will have one less billfish predator.
You sad, sad person. South africa has an abundance of Billfish species. I have seen 5 this year. One I didn't take a shot as I knew I did not have a good chance of a kill shot and as this fish was in excess of 200 kg (480lbs) I knew that to shoot would mean a lost gun and wounded fish that could eventually die. I did not needlessly want to injure such a beast and decided discretion is the better part of valour. You see, I can be selective about when and where I pull the trigger.
Mike sucks bum. Sad doos. Without all of the ethical questions the holier-than-thou muppets throw at spearos, why should we try to justify our sport (yes, sport) to armchair heroes anyway? It's not as though their opinions actually matter FFS. Corryv, I salute you boet. I've shot a saily and also seen marlin. It wouldn't be worth my time to mention the lonlgliners, etc... All I can be bothered to say to Mike is pop over for a braai... we'll renovate your opinion. No respect.
Don't sweat it, bro. Only thing you need to tell them is to look up "longline" fishing and "bycatch". mike28mike, would you rather people got their swordfish from the supermarket? Spearfishing is the most ethical type of fishing; zero bycatch and the fish doesn't die from exhaustion, dangling from a hook for a whole day...
Secondly, about wishing my death or grievious harm. I can only say I hope your words aren't prophetic. To you and your family I wish you well and hope that they don't have to suffer a loss as you wish mine. As for "justifying" my hobby, as said, I won't. All the fish I shoot are consumed by me and other people. I don't shoot inedibles as that I STRONGLY DON'T agree with. B.t.w. I don't know why people say Billfish aren't good eating, they are excellent in a variety of ways.
And I suppose you say take only the big prime genetic stock or does the fact that I my mmate has only and will only shoot 1 marlin not make a difference? Furthermore, we weren't sitting on a boat swilling brandy & coke waiting. We were freediving (breath hold diving) to 30m (100 feet)in a place notorius for aggressive sharks and in big numbers. Check Protea banks out. Those that can do - those that can't moan. I will not apologise for hwat I do - all within our countries legal bag limits.
Oh, and should my mates fish be embarrassing, why don't you put up your own videos of fish you have shot or better yet come here and dive with us and show me how it is done
Good stuff with the catch and release, but. How many of those 100 billfish were killed by other predators (sharks) shortly after release? I would say at least a couple were. In my opinion I would rather spear one billfish than catch a 100 on a rod, just because of the risk factor involved.
Release studies paid for by companies selling circle hooks. When the fish is hooked, landed within a matter of minutes and released, then survival chances are good. However, when the fish is caught on lighter tackle for a "good fight" it is fought to exhaustion and doesn't recover sufficiently to survive or evade sharks. They literally fight themselves to death due to their "never give up" attitude. Plus marlin are awesome eating in a variety of different ways
So you would rather shoot a reef fish which is much slower growing than a billfish which is much faster growing. This marlin was probably a 3-4 year old male and already sexually mature so it would have had a chance to breed. I don't know where you from but some of our reef fish in South Africa take 5-10 years to reach sexual maturity. Billfish are also some of the quickest growing gamefish too.
We ought angle or spear fish that are common and good food at the table. Marlin populations are not healthy although I hope they may be recovering due to conservation and catch & release practices. As I believe Marlin are a fairly poor food choice I vote against any killing of the species. Last month I released 2 stripers in the Sea of Cortez last month and I felt great joy from my long fight and encounter with the fish and then the thrill of seeing the fish take off into the blue abyss!
I dunno, were I a fish, I'd rather be tired and terrorized than dead. I am a boat fisherman and practice catch and release when billfishing - but I do kill table fish. I do believe that freedive spearos are honorable sportsman however. Point is all of us need to conserve and protect the ocean that we all share.
About as far back a sport as ever, it seems. Must take a lot of practice, kudos. My fear would be the gathering of sharks you're sure to get from the blood of your catch. Looking forward to more.
Thanks to your patience and taking the time to explain your sport and quarry, I now look at freedive spearfishing in a totally different light! It pleases me to know that the Marlin stocks are healthy in S.A. - we need to keep them that way. I did some research on freedive spearos - you guys are something! The spearfishermen that I see regularly are blokes in scuba gear and their modus operandi amount to an ambush rather than a hunt. Freedivers are true sportsmen and superb athletes as well!
Coyv, Oops! Just did my homework and learned that Protea Banks are in S.A. near Durban? Also, I should have noticed that you're not wearing scuba gear - holding a breath long enough to hunt 20 - 25 meters deep evens the odds as well - hats off. I still resent being refered to as a moron however.
Sorry about the moron comment. It is just that we (spearos) pick up alot of flack from people who are not familiar about our sport. So was a rash comment.
Yes it is a bloodsport and fish are killed but there is no bycatch or unintentional fish caught. We select to the individual which we want, no other form of fishing is that selective
For interest, gamefish are quick growing. That Marlin weighed about 100kg so it was less than 4 years old 9and already sexually mature. Some species of reef fish take up to 12 years to reach sexual maturity and are very slow growing. Malrin make a much more emotive picture of conservation but their stocks are relatively healthy. Reef fish need to be better protected as they tend to be more territorial and are thus more prone to over exploitation
my my this is a desperate and inaccurate statement your excuses are quite lame. you sound like a scientist/doctor hired by a cigarette company to explain why smoking doesn't cause lung cancer.
Thanks for the enlightnment. You have at least earned my respect as a sportsman. There is a true art to releasing a large fish - it can take up to 30 minutes and must be done correctly; the fish should never be taken from the water (damage to internal organs)and slow ressitation is vital. These walleys who yank the fish out of the water, snap a photo, then swish it around for a minute or two in the water are responsible for most of the non-survivors. Perhaps my criticism was harsh.
"catch and release" is torture to fish. when you spear, you take what you ned and leave the rest alone - you dont catch, tire and terrorize them for "fun".
Its pretty difficult doing a catch and release when you spearfish. Why not take a picture, and let the fish live. There aren't enough billfish anyway. I've caught my share of marlins and sails, and I'm pleased to say they were all released to fight another day. It pisses me off to think that a fish which I carefully released after a magnificent battle would end up at the end of a spear! Spearfishing is selfish - and you know it.
You are an ignorant moron. REsearch has shown that a high percentage of "catch and release" billfish actually die due to the undue stress on them. So your assumption that you've caught several and they have lived to tell the tale is naive. My mate has seen one, taken it and of the others he has seen has not taken a luck shot to just wound the fish. Spearfishing is ACTUALLY the most eco friendly form of fishing. Plus the fish was shot at a depth of 25m. We don't just sit on a boat drinking beer
...and wait for a fish to "bite". Come freedive (i.e. breathold) with me to 30m (100 foot) and if you live then comment that spearishing is selfish. We don't have the luxury of high tech rods and reels, we are hunting in an environment where we are at a disadvantage. If you stuff up, your line snaps. If we do, game over. You drown. Before you criticise something, learn about the topic first so as not to expose your stupidity.
your in the water with a spear gun and you shoot your fish to catch them... im assuming when you shoot a spear through them blood is everywhere in the water and sharks are attracted? your pretty insane.
One or two, hehehe. Protea banks is notorius for Bull sharks. I was grabbed on the foot by one a month and a bit ago and although I have a good "war" story now, I was very, very lucky the shark didn't get a good grip on me. Got some ugly scratches and one puncture mark on my left foot pocket of my fins. Dived there a few days ago, Got some nice fish but saw Tiger sharks, Bull sharks and a Great White. Not a spot for the faint hearted
That fish was probably 3-5 years old, does it make more sense to hunt reef fish which are much slower growing and some may take up to 1o years to reach sexual maturity?
p.s. Marlin steaks are awesome on a braai (grill/BBQ) and awesome sushi

Leave the marlin alone. If you pretend to give a fuck about the animals, you go vegan mutha fuckers.
Listen to the music. Killing for entertainment. Killing for food that contains high levels of mercury. Great one guys.
Teach locals how to eat sustainably on plant foods if your serious. Right now your just another rich white poser.

hey dingoprairie u probly have never gone spearfishing and it is way more extreme than fishing with a rod u tool ... u r probly just a little 15 year old kid that doesnt hav a social life and never gets off the computor and says he has done stuff to boast but hasnt u little fag
tomoL1994 3 years ago
Dingoprairie is talking about something he knows absolutely nothing about. Freediving is a widely respected sport and only a few people can do it due to currents, blackouts, sharks, waves, and many other factors. Even some of the best die in the sport, RIP.Corryv dives deep and no it's not easy. What Dingo is saying is BS because if he really knew how to dive, he would not be saying what he is saying. He's jealous of Corryv's skills. That's y he is criticizing.Plain and Simple.
alawaiman 3 years ago
you're a coward. You think you deserve respect for using a speargun to kill a big fish? Any retard could do it. This is no "sport", it's an ego thrill for sadists who have no use to the world.
dingoprairie 3 years ago
Oh, and I suppose sitting on a boat drinking beer all day waiting for the thing to bite a lute is what "real" men do? You are welcome to come diving with me if you think any retard could do it. We dive to depths in excess of 30m holding our breath hunting fish. US Wildlife considers spearfishing to be the only sustainable form of hunting as we select to the individual which fish we want. Oh and don't mention "catch and release", I've seen billfish released totally buggered and with no chance.
corryv 3 years ago
Who "buggered" them? cowards and sadists like you.. any retarded cowardly sadistic creep could do it. It's a hobby for sadists. Somehow make the fish have a speargun i'd like to see you faggots crying with a spear through your guts and see how much of a "man" you are then. I've dived deep without scuba, it's nothing to brag about, your strutting around about that is pathetic.
dingoprairie 3 years ago
And yes, it isn't a sport. It is hunting (to the extreme) in which only an elite few can partake. If it was easy then everyone (including you) would probably do it.
Those that can, do. Those like you who can't, try to cover up their own insecurities and lack of ability by attempting to make us feel bad. Sorry for you.
corryv 3 years ago

Cheers
dstick1 3 years ago
Thanks mate, picked up some hassles with my camera housing and have to get that sorted out before I can post anymore vids. Heading for summer our way and will then get some good footage of sharks. When those Zambies (Bull sharks) start packing up it can get real scary.
Good diving.
corryv 3 years ago
LOL we get them too but not like the schools you guys get, and whalers, freaky when they start getting testy! I had problems with my housing(Sony) as well. Couldn't take the recoil from my Riffe. Tore the tripod mount out, being trying different methods to try and get a stable video of me nailing fish ever since! Thinking of getting a new set up from IKELITE. Bring on summer, safe diving!
dstick1 3 years ago
I don't know what facts do you mean when you say say, most released billfish end up dead after release. The only moron here is you!
You are a shameful guy trying by all means to justify killing billfish. Ohhh by the way let me give you a clap for swiming around sharks !!who the hell cares? hope the next time brave diver, the shark doesn't miss your leg, that way will have one less billfish predator.
mike28mike 3 years ago
You sad, sad person. South africa has an abundance of Billfish species. I have seen 5 this year. One I didn't take a shot as I knew I did not have a good chance of a kill shot and as this fish was in excess of 200 kg (480lbs) I knew that to shoot would mean a lost gun and wounded fish that could eventually die. I did not needlessly want to injure such a beast and decided discretion is the better part of valour. You see, I can be selective about when and where I pull the trigger.
corryv 3 years ago
Mike sucks bum. Sad doos. Without all of the ethical questions the holier-than-thou muppets throw at spearos, why should we try to justify our sport (yes, sport) to armchair heroes anyway? It's not as though their opinions actually matter FFS. Corryv, I salute you boet. I've shot a saily and also seen marlin. It wouldn't be worth my time to mention the lonlgliners, etc... All I can be bothered to say to Mike is pop over for a braai... we'll renovate your opinion. No respect.
suckaballa 3 years ago
Thanks Bru, much appreciated. Next time you're down Natal way give a shout can maybe teach me to shoot a sailie. Haven't managed one yet.
corryv 3 years ago
Don't sweat it, bro. Only thing you need to tell them is to look up "longline" fishing and "bycatch". mike28mike, would you rather people got their swordfish from the supermarket? Spearfishing is the most ethical type of fishing; zero bycatch and the fish doesn't die from exhaustion, dangling from a hook for a whole day...
OOQRA 3 years ago
Secondly, about wishing my death or grievious harm. I can only say I hope your words aren't prophetic. To you and your family I wish you well and hope that they don't have to suffer a loss as you wish mine. As for "justifying" my hobby, as said, I won't. All the fish I shoot are consumed by me and other people. I don't shoot inedibles as that I STRONGLY DON'T agree with. B.t.w. I don't know why people say Billfish aren't good eating, they are excellent in a variety of ways.
corryv 3 years ago
This is not about arguing, right or wrong!
this is shame stuff any way you want to see it!
Besaides that's a really small marlin.
You shoud take this video off, It's embarrassing!
mike28mike 3 years ago
And I suppose you say take only the big prime genetic stock or does the fact that I my mmate has only and will only shoot 1 marlin not make a difference? Furthermore, we weren't sitting on a boat swilling brandy & coke waiting. We were freediving (breath hold diving) to 30m (100 feet)in a place notorius for aggressive sharks and in big numbers. Check Protea banks out. Those that can do - those that can't moan. I will not apologise for hwat I do - all within our countries legal bag limits.
corryv 3 years ago
Oh, and should my mates fish be embarrassing, why don't you put up your own videos of fish you have shot or better yet come here and dive with us and show me how it is done
corryv 3 years ago
most of us spearos eat what we catch.then there are those ,catch ,stuff and put it on the wall to say "yeah i hooked that one"kooks!
vdubwhore 3 years ago
I have probably caught and released 100 billfish, I have never killed one... Catch and release for all billfish is the way to go...
Just because it swims and is large, is not justification to kill the regal billfish...
Remember, there was a time when all billfish caught on rod and reel were killed simply to take a photo back at the dock.. then discarded.
At Cabo San Lucas MX, it is around 90 plus percent catch and realease...
Tight lines.. Holi-e-Mackeral... JEff
Holiemackeral 3 years ago
Good stuff with the catch and release, but. How many of those 100 billfish were killed by other predators (sharks) shortly after release? I would say at least a couple were. In my opinion I would rather spear one billfish than catch a 100 on a rod, just because of the risk factor involved.
Subquatic 3 years ago
Well,
Release studies have found that most billfish caught with circle hooks survive.
Tight lines..
Jeff
Holiemackeral 3 years ago
Release studies paid for by companies selling circle hooks. When the fish is hooked, landed within a matter of minutes and released, then survival chances are good. However, when the fish is caught on lighter tackle for a "good fight" it is fought to exhaustion and doesn't recover sufficiently to survive or evade sharks. They literally fight themselves to death due to their "never give up" attitude. Plus marlin are awesome eating in a variety of different ways
corryv 3 years ago
I draw my spearfishing line on billfish, its a no go. Catch and release, no problems, I just respect them too much to kill.
fishwrecked 3 years ago
So you would rather shoot a reef fish which is much slower growing than a billfish which is much faster growing. This marlin was probably a 3-4 year old male and already sexually mature so it would have had a chance to breed. I don't know where you from but some of our reef fish in South Africa take 5-10 years to reach sexual maturity. Billfish are also some of the quickest growing gamefish too.
corryv 3 years ago
We ought angle or spear fish that are common and good food at the table. Marlin populations are not healthy although I hope they may be recovering due to conservation and catch & release practices. As I believe Marlin are a fairly poor food choice I vote against any killing of the species. Last month I released 2 stripers in the Sea of Cortez last month and I felt great joy from my long fight and encounter with the fish and then the thrill of seeing the fish take off into the blue abyss!

its not this kinda of fishing or spearing thats endangering species.
its commericial, this kinda of fishing or spearing does jack shit the the specie.
cotalbum 3 years ago
I dunno, were I a fish, I'd rather be tired and terrorized than dead. I am a boat fisherman and practice catch and release when billfishing - but I do kill table fish. I do believe that freedive spearos are honorable sportsman however. Point is all of us need to conserve and protect the ocean that we all share.

About as far back a sport as ever, it seems. Must take a lot of practice, kudos. My fear would be the gathering of sharks you're sure to get from the blood of your catch. Looking forward to more.
annibell07 3 years ago
Good luck in future dives, stay safe. I look forward to viewing more of your exploits!
sandyneckstudios07 3 years ago
Thanks to your patience and taking the time to explain your sport and quarry, I now look at freedive spearfishing in a totally different light! It pleases me to know that the Marlin stocks are healthy in S.A. - we need to keep them that way. I did some research on freedive spearos - you guys are something! The spearfishermen that I see regularly are blokes in scuba gear and their modus operandi amount to an ambush rather than a hunt. Freedivers are true sportsmen and superb athletes as well!
sandyneckstudios07 3 years ago
Coyv, Oops! Just did my homework and learned that Protea Banks are in S.A. near Durban? Also, I should have noticed that you're not wearing scuba gear - holding a breath long enough to hunt 20 - 25 meters deep evens the odds as well - hats off. I still resent being refered to as a moron however.
sandyneckstudios07 3 years ago
Sorry about the moron comment. It is just that we (spearos) pick up alot of flack from people who are not familiar about our sport. So was a rash comment.
Yes it is a bloodsport and fish are killed but there is no bycatch or unintentional fish caught. We select to the individual which we want, no other form of fishing is that selective
corryv 3 years ago
For interest, gamefish are quick growing. That Marlin weighed about 100kg so it was less than 4 years old 9and already sexually mature. Some species of reef fish take up to 12 years to reach sexual maturity and are very slow growing. Malrin make a much more emotive picture of conservation but their stocks are relatively healthy. Reef fish need to be better protected as they tend to be more territorial and are thus more prone to over exploitation
corryv 3 years ago
my my this is a desperate and inaccurate statement your excuses are quite lame. you sound like a scientist/doctor hired by a cigarette company to explain why smoking doesn't cause lung cancer.

I'm really not opposed to spearfishing it is hororable way to fish. Just go easy on the bill fish and mind who you call a moron.
Sounds like you're from OZ! Spent two years in Brisso on a teacher exchange - loved it - get back as ofen as I can.
sandyneckstudios07 3 years ago
Thanks for the enlightnment. You have at least earned my respect as a sportsman. There is a true art to releasing a large fish - it can take up to 30 minutes and must be done correctly; the fish should never be taken from the water (damage to internal organs)and slow ressitation is vital. These walleys who yank the fish out of the water, snap a photo, then swish it around for a minute or two in the water are responsible for most of the non-survivors. Perhaps my criticism was harsh.
sandyneckstudios07 3 years ago
"catch and release" is torture to fish. when you spear, you take what you ned and leave the rest alone - you dont catch, tire and terrorize them for "fun".
you are an idiot
VAROrarotonga 3 years ago
Its pretty difficult doing a catch and release when you spearfish. Why not take a picture, and let the fish live. There aren't enough billfish anyway. I've caught my share of marlins and sails, and I'm pleased to say they were all released to fight another day. It pisses me off to think that a fish which I carefully released after a magnificent battle would end up at the end of a spear! Spearfishing is selfish - and you know it.
sandyneckstudios07 3 years ago
You are an ignorant moron. REsearch has shown that a high percentage of "catch and release" billfish actually die due to the undue stress on them. So your assumption that you've caught several and they have lived to tell the tale is naive. My mate has seen one, taken it and of the others he has seen has not taken a luck shot to just wound the fish. Spearfishing is ACTUALLY the most eco friendly form of fishing. Plus the fish was shot at a depth of 25m. We don't just sit on a boat drinking beer
corryv 3 years ago
...and wait for a fish to "bite".

Sorry mate, I have no friggin idea what you're trying to say?

your in the water with a spear gun and you shoot your fish to catch them... im assuming when you shoot a spear through them blood is everywhere in the water and sharks are attracted? your pretty insane.

To the person who posted the video: did you see any sharks down in the water?
sublimed85 4 years ago
One or two, hehehe. Protea banks is notorius for Bull sharks. I was grabbed on the foot by one a month and a bit ago and although I have a good "war" story now, I was very, very lucky the shark didn't get a good grip on me. Got some ugly scratches and one puncture mark on my left foot pocket of my fins. Dived there a few days ago, Got some nice fish but saw Tiger sharks, Bull sharks and a Great White. Not a spot for the faint hearted
