rammstein has been my number one favorit band since 2001 and kicks ass till is fucking good at the ting is doing in rammstein and he is unreplaceble on the vocal things he is doing and he is also a good stage performer and the rest off rammstein is also that =) hope too see them live som day ! and i hope that happens soon . and thanks too germany that they have born a great band like rammstein =)
@1DasOmen That "B" (ß) is actually a "S" but it's pronounced sharper. ÄÖÜ are other German charakters. Ä is pronounced like the a in can in American English. The others are German only^^
@ShittyRecords Actually, although the letter Ä is pronounced the way you described, when it's used in a word (such as "hätte" in this case), it's pronounced almost like an E (in German, that is). So "hätte" would be pronounced a little like "hette".
And btw, Ä Ö and Ü are not German only. Ä and Ö can be found in Finnish, Swedish, and Hungarian as well^^. Norwegian and Danish also feature these letters but they have different symbols for them (Æ and Ø).
@1DasOmen I just meant taht the sound is alike "Z"... how does it sounds "SS" anyways? Cuz u know Iam sorry not to be a snake... It is easier for me to understand the sound of ß if someone tells me is Z alike... but indeed ß is typed "SS"
@makisjnx007 Sorry, I was always told and thought that a single S sounds like a Z and that ß is just SS and that it sounds just like a regular english S.
And then, I guess from what I've noticed, a single S can also sound like SH in a word like "Stein"
@1DasOmen you are right. But my point is if Z sounds just like S then why isn't used in same way?
In german there is a reason to that the sound is ALIKE but not the same. Is a Phonetical reson because as you sayed in german S can sound as SH and this is the reason why ß has the purpouse that the speaker reproduce a sound ALIKE Z. The intention of ß is to put a phonetical enphasis in the sound of the letter S.
@1DasOmen you are right. but if Z sounds just like S then why isn't used in same way or even the same words?

for example: stoßen (to push st) ... stosen would sound to soft, stossen would sound much to hard, that's why we had that ß. Does that make any sence ? xD hope I could help you a little...

@225slipknot Question, how do you do that funny looking "B" in the word Gro[?]en and the a with the dots on top?
1DasOmen 1 year ago
@1DasOmen That "B" (ß) is actually a "S" but it's pronounced sharper. ÄÖÜ are other German charakters. Ä is pronounced like the a in can in American English. The others are German only^^
Ä/Ö/Ü are A/O/U mixed with E.

@1DasOmen
a single -s- sounds like a soft -s-
-ss- is just a sharper -s-
Stein is spoken like Schtein, it's like that in every word with a -t- after the -s- (like in stuhl, stock, stab, stoß...)
-ß- is not only a sharp one, it's the one that sounds most like a snake i guess xD
