  • Pinto VS VW Beetle...and the winner is...the Pinto? Hilarious!

  • The guy who 'didn't know that' at :23 is sitting on the bumper of a 74' Super Beetle. The car has the larger bumpers federally mandated for the 74' model year. Pre-74's didn't have the plastic end caps shown on this car (they were used to protect the body from damage in a 5 mph collision. November 1970 fail.

  • Haha the comment argument is between a scooter and a go kart, arguing about a Pinto and a Beetle.

  • I had both... '71 Pinto hatchback & '71 Super Beetle. Each had their points.

The Pinto was more rugged than it looked and carried quite a bit. It wouldn't get you laid but had more room to do it when you did.

The VW was fun to drive and a lot more comfortable. But the Beetle didn't handle a sand storm in Indio CA too well. Fail for the air cooled engine.

  • @Unit63 Ya I run into those sand storms all the time!!!! Which is why I see more Pintos than VWs driving today!!!! Ah if only I had known I wouldn't have 3 Ghias right now...

  • @andrij66 Sorry if it seemed like I was dissing the veedub (I've had 2), It's tough to beat 58 years of Beetles vs 10 years of Pintos. But I also had the Pinto and 2 Vegas. Maybe MY Pinto experience was better than some, but my '71 gave me good service until I forgot to check the oil in the tranny. It seemed I was always chasing something down in my VW's. But maybe we can agree with something I always say, "I was sad because I had no shoes until I met a man who drove a Vega."

  • @Unit63 You're good, look at it with a sarcastic, form of humour... Funny you should mention 71 (that's the year of my 3 Ghias... Getting to the point though, when I started going to the race track I'd always see supped up Vegas... & until someone told me about their "humble" (to put it nicely?) beginnings, I always though of them as bad 455 cars... How's that for an ironic legacy, Vegas at the race track & the camaros & stuff all pampered & tucked away!!!!!

  • i would take the vw over the bean.

  • YOu people Disgust me the Pinto Did not blow up I mean it did but when it did it took a fucking dump truck going 60 to do it

  • @scooterdude1945 excuse me,it was quite common and the dumb asses at ford placed a fuel tank over a red-hot exhaust on a compact car ....they were asking for fires. and the filler tube for the tank wasn`t far enough in the tank so that usually came out and sloshed gas on the exhaust..and YOu disgust me for defending those death trap ,shit-boxes!

  • @gokartbuyer Ohh yeah you V-Dub fanboys I lov Vws myself But I would drive a Pinto Anyday you fucking moolie

  • @scooterdude1945 okay, i will send you flowers when you are in the severe burn ward!and by the way i am not a fan boy but, when a beetle is compared to a pinto i am gonna take the car that isn`t going to catch fire.

  • @gokartbuyer It only caught fire in the 71 72 models as they made a large recall after the 5th death and the 7th injury I own a 73 1/2 Pinto so I will not catch fire

  • @scooterdude1945 the fact that they waited for the 5th death and 7th injury for a recall.

  • @gokartbuyer True money saver ford can be can be a dick sometimes but not all the time

  • @scooterdude1945 wow ,thats the first time during our whole conversation that we have agreed on something.

  • @gokartbuyer Lol but still the only volkswagen beetle I would drive is a sliding rag top fuel injected 65

  • @scooterdude1945 yeah i would want a rag top too but, i love my carbs ,fuel injecters get plugged easily and carbs are easier to tune and work on.

  • @gokartbuyer Rag tops pop out windows and a porshe injected motor BLAMO! oh and dont forget some Moondish wheels

  • @scooterdude1945 i call them dog dish hubcaps.oh and whats a moolie?

  • @gokartbuyer Pretty much my way of saying Dickhead lol

  • @scooterdude1945 oh.....cool!

  • $367: The price for third degree burns.

  • Beetle doesnt explode if you get hit, enough said

  • NB: Pinto design is a few decades newer than Beetle design.

NNBB: Pinto may be more explosive.

  • Them pinto's where crap, The vw was much easyer to fix and was more fun.

  • I had a 1979 Chrysler Cordoba. My best friend had a 1977 Super Beetle Convertable he trusted me with when he went on a vacation. The Cordoba was by far more comfortable and roomier then the VW. The Beetle was by far a LOT more fun to drive!

  • they didn't make the super beetle until 1971 and the one in the comercial is a 73 or later.

  • maybe todAY a beetle is more better , this advertisment is by ford one of the biggest car giants back then and this advert is illegal today ,

ford is like smericans military corrupt

  • Nice choice... Either a car that catches fire if you're in a frontal crash, or one that catches fire if someone hits your rearend.

  • the vdub never caught of fire in a frontal crash

  • The Beetle beats the Pinto anyday. Ask anyone which car they would rather be seen in and i'm pretty sure most, if not all, would say the Beetle. V-Dub rocks!!

  • I had a 74 Pinto...I can say I liked the handling a bit better than my 75 Super Beetle Convertible. The Beetle was actually speedier, believe it or not. The 74 lost lots of power due to emission laws and the big bumpers. That Pinto~ in the ad looked like a 74 model or later. The 73 and older have smaller bumpers. The Pinto was comfier but not as solidly built. Both have pros and cons. I woudl say they are on par reliability wise.

  • ooh dear, you mean to say that ford actually reduced themselves to attacking the beetle in order to try and sell their rusty ugly dangerous pinto!?

  • Howdy! Pintos looked alot better then the beetle. Also ran better.

  • I know where I'd rather be in a crash...

  • Me too. Iv'e had a few MustangIIs,same platform as Pinto. Been in a few accidents &

my MustangII, did well. Having the engine up front helped. I feel safer in my MustangII

    then in a New car.

  • me too, in a 1965 chrysler imperial

  • v-dub wins

  • This is NOT 1970... the Super Beetle was introduced in 1971.

    Sincerely yours,

    a 1970 Beetle owner

  • The date doesn't indicate the vehicle year... it's the date it aired... in this case, November 1970.

  • I see. Well, thanks for clearing that up.

  • @WookieCookie Yet, the commercial aired in 1970 (before either car was released) shows a 1974 Pinto.

    Sincerely yours,

    a 1974 Pinto Owner.

  • @WookieCookie Well, there's no way it was aired in November 1970, the Super Beetles in this commercial are the curved windshield 1303s, which were introduced in 1972 as 1973 models.

Of course, the flaw in this commercial is also that at the time VW was also offering the standard (non Super) Beetle for less.

  • @DetSonnyCrockett You are correct. The flat windowed Super Beetle.

  • OUTSIDE the US the Beetle was the biggest seller by far...

  • Beatles were more likely to blow up actually

  • What are you talking about?! The only problem Beetles had were that they sometimes overheated in hot weather because they were air-cooled. Pintos are famous for blowing up.

  • pinto are beter

  • Which one didn't blow up when rear ended? Hmmmm...I think I would have paid the $367! I see tons of Beetles still driving around today. Volkswagen Rocks.

  • But which was more fun to drive??? The Beetle of course!
