Dad had that car in tan. wanted it in orange but would have had to wait two months for the dealer to receive one. He said it was the poor man's porsche 911. my friends used to call it the hot box because the air con never worked. Loved this car. wish I still had it.
I used to have a business restoring these. Successful people would call us up and say, "I had one of these in college, wish I coulf have it back." So we would find a clean, straight car, take it all the way down to the shell, and build it again in whatever color they wanted. Usually we would add a 5-speed and a really nice stereo along with a lot of soundproofing and a few tweaks to add power and control. People spent tens of thousands on these cars and they are ALL still on the road today.
Yes it are very nice cars! Some say if you get the virus you won't get of them anymore.
I'm rebuiling mine aswell now and it's allmost ready for painting! I fitted the BMW 2002 turbo fenders and modified the engine. Check out my blog: You can see the website in my profile.
@getplaning My dad had a few BMW's when I was a kid. Two from the 80's, but the one I remember is the 76 2002. That car was great. One day I will have a car like that! :)
I was born in '73, and I came home from the hospital in my Dad's 1602. First engine I ever heard...maybe this helps explain my obsession with them.
When my Mom and I were nearly killed in it, he bought a '72 sunroof, which also got taken out. He then bought a '75, which he owns to this day. People ask him when he had it restored, and he delights in telling them that it is dead original. Just goes to show what happens when you take care of something!
i was doing a project this pass week in the hills of hwy 13 exit park blvd in C.A .wow i never seen at least three to four 2002 BMW from 70's in one day.hahaha rear square lights, and best round lights.thats just look great!!!!!that was fun.

I had a teacher in college in late 1999 that used to drive a 1975 BMW 2002. In a cold winter morning he helped a student with "jumper cables" to start the motor of a new Mercedes SLK !.
@mig189189189 That goes to show you they just DON"T BUILD CAR Like they use to.I can just see the shots on your story.Nice comment to share with us.thanks
Quality cars man, my dad had a 1976 2002, the last year they were made. It made it to about 300,000 miles. Too bad the Milwaukee winters too their toll on the body. When he scrapped it, someone bought the motor and threw it in another car. German cars are the best in my opinion.
it's actually Josh Gates from the series "Destination Truth." I've been searching for the commercial he did for about a half a year and I finally found it :)
