  • Such a poignant, beautiful song.

  • he's pretty hot :) and i love this song

  • ahh brill.. 5 stars

  • Fantastic. But listen to Peter Hammill also.

  • Love the violins. They make the song.... As well as Hannon, of course.

  • A truly genius songwriter & a uniquely fantastic song to boot. I met Mr. Hannon a few years ago in Sandbach services on the M6 mid tour, a very nice & unassuming chap indeed (at least he said I was!).

  • ptain je chiale à chaque fois

  • You are brillant Neil!

  • Découvert sur FIP, splendide :)

  • J'adore. Je ne le manque pas la prochaine fois qu'il passe en France.

  • @domorose salut! moi aussi je l attends, mais sommes nous dignes de le recevoir, avec ttes les conneries qui nous abreuvent............

  • i agree with you bindybadgey. neil hannon is pure genius as well as jarvis and they both live in paris. i was stoned the other night and watched a hitchhikers guide.... to the end, at the end was neil singing.....

  • Possibly the best singer/songwriter perfomring today. This is one of the best songs he does, unbelievably touching and true.

  • man this is such a great song and a great band.

  • what an utterly pointless comment.

  • I recommend listening to an entire album. Try Casanova or Promenade. Seriously, he's a great songwriter. Even if you don't go for this stuff you have to admit it.

  • My fave song off that album:)

  • One of the best songs Mr. Hannos has written.

I LOVE the Divine Comedy since those early gigs in the Limelight Belfast at the start of the 90's.

They are coming to Barcelona in July and I cannot wait.

  • Divine!!!

  • Conclusion: Take careful of falling in love with girls you meet during night, and which you don't know anything about their past... They might be really bitches! So then u will have to cure your broken heart...

  • search 'daisybelle79' for my version of this song if anyone's interested...

  • I would second that. It's a brilliant cover, seriously.

    Brilliant Just Brilliant Song!.....

  • Those pumping cello notes give me the chills!

  • Yes but we must remember; In Germany you are all unified aryan nazi supermen without any idea of what a sense of humour is,,,or ever could be....;-)

  • Well said my friend, to hell with those Nazis.

This song gives me the goosebumps, it's a modern epic song. I've always picture this song as a crucial moment in my life where she's leaving and I can't say anything at all. I'm just there standing up frozen solid.

Therefore I think: "No longer then is he our mutual friend."

Thanks for posting this beautiful masterpiece.

    Mr. Rizo Rossellini

  • thank you for you very eloquent thoughts you liked to share with us. why is it that an idiot like v3dAA brings out so much anger and hate against another people. jugded on the amount of stupidity and superficiality you present it's difficult to judge where you might come from - not

  • genius. great voice. wonderful song!!!

  • Neil has one of the most beautiful voices in the world today and his songs are amazing. So much better than most of the commercial crap that's churned out in the charts.

  • I love this song, and I love Neil!

  • Neil Hannon is pure genius! Great voice and handsome looks ;)

  • one of the best voices

  • this is even better than the album version.

  • best band ever...

  • What a super artist! What a voice!! THE artist of this moment

  • Purest genius I've heard for a long, long, long time!

  • What a super artist! What a voice!! THE artist of this moment.

    gr, Erwin

  • i believe the divine comedy fit into the 'baroque pop' genre. i, however, think they are a genre of their own. amazing band.

  • wow. a sort of giant panorama of majestic audio dexterity hopelessly entwined with shards of unbearable beauty.

  • Its more alternative pop.

  • Which genre of music is this?

  • I think it's pop.

  • 8GreyCat8 (6 days ago)

"Which genre of music is this?"

Personally I'd file this under the genre marked "good".

  • Haha yep =D

  • it's chamber pop

  • Thanks =D

  • so divine divine !!!

  • Fantastique chanson, paroles magnifiques, super interprétation...

  • Awesome! Brilliant arrangement, top notch lyrics. This is music and lyrics working at their synergistic best.

  • Absolutely brilliant, Neil Hannon can write some of the most powerful music.

  • Wow. You took the time to copy and paste this comment to other Divine Comedy videos. Hate to tell you, but your life is already meaningless.

  • You've made your point. I've seen it already with every Divine Comedy video on You Tube. Can we call it a day now? We get it. You don't like them. Don't need to repeat it anymore.

  • Ok, you don't like The Divine Comedy, that's your right. But the way you express yourself reeks of puerile jealousy. So please be an adult at least five minutes in your life and stop commenting every single video of TDC. Yours Sincerely, Alain

  • just grow up and let people comment as they wish without the childish need to "reply to comments"...pathetic

  • Couple of questions/impressions.... Bufon63 (The correct spelling of Bufon is buffoon by the way) 1. 44 years of age lives on his own. 2. Slightly portly... 3. Greasy mousey hair and moustache......with a worrying obession with Britney Spears and trains!!!!! All in all great material for Neils next song....now would'nt that be ironic!!!! take care Buffoon63

  • bufon63: Are you by any chance a disgruntled ex-employee of Neil Hannon's?

I'm just trying to work out why you waste your time posting negative comments on what appears to be every Divine Comedy video on YouTube.

Personally I don't give a toss either way, but it does seem a little odd and doesn't reflect well on you, sir.

  • You said 'when they mercifully disbanded', but I think you will find Our Mutual Friend is from the album Absent Friends, and they actually broke up before this album. Two albums have been made since the group disbanded.

  • Possibly the best son from Neil's most perfect album. It starts out seeming melodramatic but then pulls you into the power of the drama. What seems mundane ultimately blows up into enormous betrayal and tragedy.

  • possibly one of the most talented men in music very few can do what he does

  • it is his finest hour, this is the best song, well done on the best album award neil irish music award!!

  • Neil Hannon kicks ass. It is a difficult thing to say as a Smiths and Morrissey fanatic but he is possibly a better singer and lyricist than Morrissey.

  • this song is beautiful. such a simple story illustrated perfectly. i am very fond of the way he goes from singing to speaking so easily. makes the performance believable.

  • Gave me goosebumps!

  • Stunning!

  • i love this song so much! neil is such a musical genius!! it's also very nice to know that jonathon ross has a good taste in music :)

  • I saw this as it was transmitted. It reignited my interest in The Divine Comedy and I've never looked back.

  • I greet a violinist from Brasilia. Enjoy, but please stay legato -

  • i get a little bit of bowie, from the melodrama vibrato. really attractive music, sweet jesus.the orchestra vomited rainbows onto my soul. A +

  • "sweet jesus.the orchestra vomited rainbows onto my soul." - as funny as it is poetic and therefor the TRUTH... I love this song. It touches me deeply..

  • does anyone have this live performance on mp3 file ? i have the studio version...but i would like to onw this one...w8ing answer

  • what an artist, he blends pop, classical music and great lyrics so well

  • No matter how much I try I cannot think of a better lyricist than Neil. And this song rates with the top ten songs of all time for me. Brilliant

  • It was INCREDIBLY acteed in Spain at the Summecase concerts in 2006, with Neil ACTUALLY falling unconcious. INCREDIBLE!!!!

I'm Obsessd with this song for weeks!!

  • sublime

  • The best look of the decade! Great Song anyway!!!
