Wow i know the reapers arent real but i think what if there is a race like that out there and just let us exsist because they can kinda makes me feel small in comparison makes earth seem trivial really
When this music starts, and i see those stars and planets in the picture.. I just wanna go out and discover some galactic mystery or unlock some outer space secrets.. This game and It's beautiful music have even inspired me to love physics (cuz im really interested in space and space exploration) and helped me understand space better, THANK YOU MASS EFFECT!!!
One Reaper. Sovereign went almost the entire battle without bothering to attack the fleet at all. Humankind and the Citadel forces simply didn't matter to it.
When it did strike back, in a small handful of moments it littered the space around it with the wreckage of those who attacked it.
Sovereign wasn't hurt at all until you destroyed the Saren-Husk that he had placed his mind into. If he hadn't ASSUMED DIRECT CONTROL, he would have won.
I was ready to face Saren, yet I stumble upon a ship that turns out to be not only an actual reaper, but also has a way with words. His lines are just plain epic. I felt fear throughout the whole scene.
Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great games such as Mass Effect. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
@pkerch00b1 When I become an evil millionaire, this shall play throughout my elevators and corridors so that my minions will quake in subservience and my visitors/enemies shall tremble in fear. The Illusive Man's music will be playing in my office naturally.
Sovereign... I don't know what it was about him but when he said; "We have no beginning... We have no End... We simply... Are..." It gave me goose bumps.
@jonnymovieboy At the final battle, Sovereign transferred his mind into Saren's body. So when you fight and kill Saren at the end, you are actually fighting Sovereign.
@Doolz2024 that quote gives me chills!!! The best dialogue sequence in any game i have ever played was the dialogue with Sovereign in ME1! So mind blowing and intriguing!
Whenever I hear this music, I feel a huge sense of dread. This makes it a good fit not only for the villain itself but what it represents, a threat far away.
It's a short piece but sometimes that's the best way to go. It is very much parallel with the player's knowledge have of the villain throughout the game, starting off low and understated but then exploding to full prominence as though coinciding the player's realisation of what the character truly is. A dark theme for a dark villain.
@dEsSiCaTa I played through ME for the first time a couple weeks ago. At several points during the game -- not just this theme -- the soundtrack reminded me strongly of the music from Dune
@excalibration Not surprising, supposedly bio-ware was trying to make this movie have aspects from all the old science-fiction films. I totally agree though, I was half expecting Shepard to suddenly have blue glowing eyes!
@hokogan Oh cool, never knew. Not very much into Lovecraft I am afraid to admit. Only thing I stumble into is the references in all the games, and having some basic knowledge of what it is all about :)
@hokogan No doubt that Bioware developed the game's script basing the great alien menace (the Reapers) in the H.P. Lovecraft world. The view that is given to us about Sovereign is of something beyhond our comprehension...
For the three scenes Sovereign was in, each left a sense of complete dread. You first see him out in the distance, taking off for some reason. You see the smoldering crater he left behind when he left Eden Prime, causing that much destruction from just sitting. The scene in which you meet him personally is just chilling thanks to this music, his voice, the lack of a face to look at while he speaks, and his lines. Then at the end you see he was indestructible unless mentally exhausted. Chilling.
I hate how the music and everything builds up the reaeprs, you feel insignificant and weak, and with ME3 we are going to win :/ Just seems to go agaisnt who they are and the feeling you get from them. I dont like the idea of losing, but in this case I make an acception, thy are just shown as so much more, they deserve to win.
@someguyinwales ME3 isn't out yet, maybe bioware will be brave and make it a no win scenario, although admittedly unlikely. The reapers do seem virtually indestructable in large numbers but i have a feeling they have always been up against organic lifeforms only, the geth will be a big help, plus i have a strong feeling a certain choice from the first game concerning the rachni queen could play a big part, if Bioware are brave enough to make a decision from 2 games ago be so significant
@solarisxd Unlikely, ME3 is going to be a "stand alone" game, people wont need to play any previous games. As for geth and Rachni, a gameplay vid shows geth are still with the reapers, and rachni have been indocrtinated once. And now they have Cerberus and bartarian husks. Really winning at this point just seems stupid and far fetched, but nothing you can do other than sit back and watch.
@someguyinwales A PS3 ME2 style comic would allow these decisions for people who don't have the first 2 games allowing ME3 to be a standalone game. Concerning geth, we learn from ME2 that it's only a relatively small percentage of the geth who "decided" to fight with the reapers, and there is a choice to recruit them back with the rest of the geth. It could go either way with the rachni. Either way they only way we'll find out is when ME3 is released. :)
@someguyinwales cerberus is against us, but geth can be with us and against us, but its not standalone, they are getting in over 1k different options that change according to your choices
When I first talked with sovereign I was like "this is going to be so cool"...
I was wrong... It was utterly terrifying... His voice was so devoid of emotion and really gave you that feeling that organics are nothing more than play things for the reapers...
I listen to this music and I always picture sovereign destroying the citadel fleet... it's overpowering
@9089darklord The Reapers do not share your pity, remorse, or fear. They are transcendent above all else. They have not but contempt for life...all life.
Easily the most epic video game character... EVER! Darth Vader can suck a dick in comparison to the mighty Sovereign... Never, do i believe, could there be another character with such a fear educing aura about it. BioWare... i salute you.
I'll be honest: I liked Mass Effect 2 more. I thought the storyline was darker, the characters more diverse, the gameplay more fun. Sovereign and the Geth, however, is where the first game is superior. The Collectors are creepy; the Geth are a chilling race of interstellar death machines. Harbinger was scary puppet master; Sovereign was downright terrifying.
wow, I was searching for this, thx for upload. When I was playing ME for the first time and got to conversation with Sovereign, it was really chilling for me (yea, my balls chilled too ;). I was like: "Oh my god, we must be such irrelevant creatures, compared to the Reapers :O "
Harbinger is the leader of the Reapers. When the last cycle ended Sovereign was left behind to watch civilizations grow. Sovereign was assigned to activate the Conduit so the Reapers could return fast and not travel all the way from dark space. Sovereign needed someone to aid him activate the Conduit because a massive ship can't fly in and borrow the Citadels main computers so he tricked Saren to join him, promising eternal life if he joined the Reapers.
@MikaelLV No... no, that's completely wrong. Harbinger was the leader of the Collectors, not the Reapers. Sovereign was left behind to watch the galaxy, to wait until the time was right to reopen the Citadel relay and start the cycle of extinction. Saren believed that the Reapers' return was inevitable, and believed that if he proved he - and consequently, organic life - could be useful, that the Reapers would spare them. Sovereign needed Saren because the Keepers were no longer useful.
@MikaelLV Ran out of space in that last reply. The Keepers had become attuned to only the ambient signals of the Citadel itself - they couldn't hear Sovereign's signal. The Geth were used as a tool because, to quote Shepard: "Organic life is less predictable" - the Keepers had evolved, as organics do. So there. X3
@MikaelLV wrong, the conduit wasnt made by the reapers, rather the protheans very first, highly experimental relay, linking ilos to the citadel. Soverign needed to acessess the citadel computors to reopen the citadel relay into dark space. and to that he needed saren.
Sovereign was ten times more epic than Harbinger. I mean compare the lines: "you exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it" vs "This hurts you". I hope they fix that in ME3 and make Harbinger more intimidating.
Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh. You touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding. There is a real of existence so far beyond your own you cannot even imagine it. I am beyond your comprehension. I am Sovereign.
We show you this video to show you the theme of Sovereign. You listen because we allow it, and you will like it because we demand it.
We are legion (Legion: That is a prevarication. Shepard-Commander has provided us with such identification. There are errors in this one's software.). The length of this theme is short. But our music will deafen your ears (and indoctrinate you).
it's interesting, given that sovereign means "supreme ruler" and a harbinger is essentially a messenger or vanguard, shouldn't the reaper from ME1 have been called harbinger and the leader of the reapers called Sovereign?
this is the elevator music at Bioware.

FoxyUkeFox 8 months ago
@MikaelLV Ran out of space in that last reply. The Keepers had become attuned to only the ambient signals of the Citadel itself - they couldn't hear Sovereign's signal. The Geth were used as a tool because, to quote Shepard: "Organic life is less predictable" - the Keepers had evolved, as organics do. So there. X3
FoxyUkeFox 8 months ago
@MikaelLV wrong, the conduit wasnt made by the reapers, rather the protheans very first, highly experimental relay, linking ilos to the citadel. Soverign needed to acessess the citadel computors to reopen the citadel relay into dark space. and to that he needed saren.

enterprise0709 8 months ago
@enterprise0709 Apparently those 5 dislikes are Garrus, Ashley, Liara, Tali, and Shepard. Wrex and Kaiden ate dirt that playthrough apparently.

Sovereign was ten times more epic than Harbinger. I mean compare the lines: "you exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it" vs "This hurts you". I hope they fix that in ME3 and make Harbinger more intimidating.

@66ALDARIS
When i first fought harbinger I Imagined he said "this hurts you more than it hurts me" And my mind was wtf?

This is easily the creepiest theme in Mass Effect. It gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh. You touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding. There is a real of existence so far beyond your own you cannot even imagine it. I am beyond your comprehension. I am Sovereign.

Talking to sovereign in me1 was the most eerie, disturbing, oddly sexual thing's ever.
TheBalls17 9 months ago 4
We show you this video to show you the theme of Sovereign. You listen because we allow it, and you will like it because we demand it.
We are legion (Legion: That is a prevarication. Shepard-Commander has provided us with such identification. There are errors in this one's software.). The length of this theme is short. But our music will deafen your ears (and indoctrinate you).

it's interesting, given that sovereign means "supreme ruler" and a harbinger is essentially a messenger or vanguard, shouldn't the reaper from ME1 have been called harbinger and the leader of the reapers called Sovereign?
PanzerX7 9 months ago
@PanzerX7 sovereign was just a name given by the geth because they viewed him as a supreme ruler according to mass effect wiki his name is nazara.
MrArioch11 9 months ago
@MrArioch11 Heritic Geth called it Nazara, Saren called it Sovereign.
