  • Fantastic job, Kyu would have been proud to accompany you

  • I first heard this tune half a century ago and the hairs on my neck (none left on my head) still bristle each time hear it. Your instrumental was as fine as any i've heard, tho' Hank's was marginally crisper.

  • papa you are very nice in sukiyaki song with best guitar classic . love you papa

  • すばらしい~

    (^-^)//"""""" パチパチパチ拍手~d(-_^)good!!

  • I favorited this video 3 years ago and I still listen to it and love it!

  • one of the greatest songs ever....but i have never heard the instrumental version until now and i was blown away....

  • Glad you liked it Amanda and all,

I tried to keep the spirit of the song since I am playing over the original.

    Regards,

    Abel

  • I just can't get enough of your videos. I'm sharing all of them with my Facebook friends.

  • I love this melody too... Thanks for sharing your heartfelt rendition.

  • love old song

  • classic

  • I agree with your scrolling banner. I've known and loved this song since it surfaced in the early 60s, including the lovely later versions, with and without singers. It's an awesome song and will last forever.

  • Great job playing. What are you using for the backing track?

  • Fun style similar to my own. Enjoyed-many thanks!

  • love it!

  • Good job, Lad!

  • Hi Abel:

Very nice this your version. Well done!!

    Cheers from Brazil

    Roberto

  • Good Job!

  • Sukiyaki is also my emotional favourite of all time - defined 1963.

  • Nice version, although I'd leave out that percussion effect during the whistling, near the end. I agree about the melody being a real tearjerker. People need to listen to this tune so they know what a decent melody sounds like.

  • great

  • Excellent! You inspired me to learn to play it on guitar myself!

  • Fantastic job.

  • Moja ulubiona melodia:):)

  • Fantastic! Thank you. Very soulful guitar playing.

  • I'm truly impressed..

    Great job abelkhin!

  • Hi

Love the tune and the way you play it.Thank you.

    Regards Concretejockey.

  • OUTSTANDING!

  • Very nice.

I am trying to just get notes for Sukiyaki on guitar-and it is almost impossible.

Could you send me the notes, tab or just type in the melody line?

Your playing has the sound that I like just as an instrumental.

    Thank you.

  • Nice job... it's a very cool tribute.

  • coolness!!!

  • Great mate

Great tribute to Sakamoto wish I was capable of doing the same. Mike

  • Beautiful! I never heard this song before, but I shed tears for some reason.

  • One of the best songs ever. I can still remember most of what I thought the words were. Thanks for remembering this one and working your own magic on it. This was a huge hit at the time, as I'm sure you are well aware.

  • 素晴らしい演奏をありがとう!

  • Muy bueno hermano

  • Great Job on a classic love song from 1963. It is on one of the most romantic songs ever. The Ventures also did a great version.. Most Americans have never heard of The Shadows, only The Ventures. (sadly for them) keep up the nice work.

  • Nice to see a Hank Marvin fan in the United States! Marvin and the Shadows are unjustly underrated here. Very nice version--that reminds me, I have to go oil my whammy bar!

  • Great job!

Yes, I know what you mean about the emotional impact of this great song. I share your thoughts.

  • great beauty eminating from that stratocaster, summoned up by an able master.kudos to you sir,a brilliant interpretation

  • sir. very nice song and very nice cover

i wish i could play like you!

  • Very nice. I have alwayds loved this tune.

Where did you get the backing track. I've been looking for it for a long time?

  • That was really beautiful. I also have a special place for this wonderful song.

  • 5 STARS!!! that was a totally different and beautiful rendition of Sukiyaki!

  • grrrrrrrreeeeaaaaaaatttt!!!!!!!!!! you made my day to :)

  • wow im so happy to listen this is a great version .keep up the great work my friend

  • plus que parfait cher ami abel ..amitiés abel à plus..!

  • блиннн.. а драйв ГДЕ???? вы чо...ребята...

  • I first heard this song when I was in Oska 70. Couldn't get it out of head and I promised myself that one day I would write English words to this song. Your version is the best instreumental I have heard.

Well 38 years later I have written my version of the song - it is much more powerful than the other English version which protrays a victim of love. My version protrays taking control of a love that has gone away and the singer becomes the winner.

  • I really like your version of this on the guitar. Well done. Kinda in the Shadows tradition.

  • Your rendition of this classic just made my day!!

  • nice!!!

  • I'm very glad to listen to this tune played by foreign player.

In addition, the guitar tone played by you is very similar to the Japanese traditional musical instrument "Shami-sen", having three strings. Very impressive!

  • You nailed it Mogukami. I'm an American living in Japan because my wife is Japanese, and this version definitely is played like a Shamisen. Have you noticed the similarity between Shamisen and banjo? This rendition seems to bridge the sounds between American and Japanese. What do you think?

  • Thanks for your comments. Yes, I had noticed the tonal similarity between them. I guess he intentionally played this tune with Shamisen like tone. He has very nice musical sense. I have not rich knowledge on American country music but I like to listen to it played with banjo. "Orange blossom special" is one of my favorite one.

  • WOW!!! Ya know.. I really need the instrumental of this song for our recording.

Thank u so much for putting this here.

    It really helps..

    Kiko;-)

  • awesome!!!!! perfect for a country road stroll. IMO at least. 5 stars.

  • I love the electric version you have done.

This song means a lot to me as well.

    Excellent rendition!

  • Most amazing my friend!! Better than the Shadows! :-)

  • lol

  • Excelent...you are the MusicMan..and I am MusicMatty...You and I are gonna form a band and have a blast.

  • Very Cool!

  • 100% great, Kyu san would have liked this i am sure, God bless his memory

  • You wrote "This song has had an emotional impact on me as no other has." Me also!

  • I like the way you play the tune. I live in Japan and show this to my Japanese friends, and they all say "SUGOI!" That means great.

  • whoa. that was beautiful!

  • very shadows like. well played

  • 上手!がんばってください!

  • Well played!

  • GOOD!nice Play!

  • Just a pretty, pretty song, played outstandingly by you Sir!

  • What a nice tune

  • GREAT! FIVE STARS!

  • very good, this song makes me cry no matter if there's vocals or not. You did good though, I have no music ability at all so I am so touched by the ability in others.

  • This is amazing! Thank you! I've been trying to find just the music with out the vocals to this song thank you !! awesome job!!!!!

  • BEAUTIFUL!!ABEL,and it happens to be one of,

  • Its japanese lol not chinese - kyu sakamato is japanese. But this is a great song - and played well bravo!!

  • lol i still like chinese food xD

  • Awesome instrumental cover.

  • Very good job! It is nice to hear such a nice and sentimental song into an instrumental version

You did that very well.. thank You for that.

    Wijnand

  • Great song!

  • Very nice job! Sounds great. A very emotional song that needs no words. Your imagination can do that. Another song that needs no words is "Little Wing" by Jimi Hendrix/ Stevie Ray Vaughn, I've always liked SRV's version better. I would really like to see you take a shot at Little Wing. Keep up the good work!

  • Hi Abel:

I don't want to be repetitive....but again, a great version from you... Very nice played and a very good sound.Congratulations again!

Also for me, this tune it's special. Here in Brazil, it was a great success with The Ventures in the 60's and transfer me to my first attemps when learning how to play guitar. With this tune, I tryed find note per note in the guitar arm....

    Cheers from Brazil

    Roberto

  • muito bom !!!! good !! parabens !! pelo bom gosto !!você e um otimo guitarrista !!obrigado amigo !!

  • Hi Abel,

congratulations, this is a wonderful tribute, and it sounds very asian. Great style and good playing as every tune from you.
