I first heard this tune half a century ago and the hairs on my neck (none left on my head) still bristle each time hear it. Your instrumental was as fine as any i've heard, tho' Hank's was marginally crisper.
I agree with your scrolling banner. I've known and loved this song since it surfaced in the early 60s, including the lovely later versions, with and without singers. It's an awesome song and will last forever.

Nice version, although I'd leave out that percussion effect during the whistling, near the end. I agree about the melody being a real tearjerker. People need to listen to this tune so they know what a decent melody sounds like.
omg so beautiful i love this song it aleays makes me think of my Godmother she played the original on a record when I visited her restaruant <3 ty so much great job!!
One of the best songs ever. I can still remember most of what I thought the words were. Thanks for remembering this one and working your own magic on it. This was a huge hit at the time, as I'm sure you are well aware.
Great Job on a classic love song from 1963. It is on one of the most romantic songs ever. The Ventures also did a great version.. Most Americans have never heard of The Shadows, only The Ventures. (sadly for them) keep up the nice work.
Nice to see a Hank Marvin fan in the United States! Marvin and the Shadows are unjustly underrated here. Very nice version--that reminds me, I have to go oil my whammy bar!
I first heard this song when I was in Oska 70. Couldn't get it out of head and I promised myself that one day I would write English words to this song. Your version is the best instreumental I have heard.
Well 38 years later I have written my version of the song - it is much more powerful than the other English version which protrays a victim of love. My version protrays taking control of a love that has gone away and the singer becomes the winner.
I'm very glad to listen to this tune played by foreign player.
In addition, the guitar tone played by you is very similar to the Japanese traditional musical instrument "Shami-sen", having three strings. Very impressive!
You nailed it Mogukami. I'm an American living in Japan because my wife is Japanese, and this version definitely is played like a Shamisen. Have you noticed the similarity between Shamisen and banjo? This rendition seems to bridge the sounds between American and Japanese. What do you think?
Thanks for your comments. Yes, I had noticed the tonal similarity between them. I guess he intentionally played this tune with Shamisen like tone. He has very nice musical sense. I have not rich knowledge on American country music but I like to listen to it played with banjo. "Orange blossom special" is one of my favorite one.
very good, this song makes me cry no matter if there's vocals or not. You did good though, I have no music ability at all so I am so touched by the ability in others.
i don't know about you guys but when i hear this song it tastes like chinese food in my mouth haha , i could realy eat some chinese food now , and great cover ! great song
Very nice job! Sounds great. A very emotional song that needs no words. Your imagination can do that. Another song that needs no words is "Little Wing" by Jimi Hendrix/ Stevie Ray Vaughn, I've always liked SRV's version better. I would really like to see you take a shot at Little Wing. Keep up the good work!
I don't want to be repetitive....but again, a great version from you... Very nice played and a very good sound.Congratulations again!
Also for me, this tune it's special. Here in Brazil, it was a great success with The Ventures in the 60's and transfer me to my first attemps when learning how to play guitar. With this tune, I tryed find note per note in the guitar arm....
Fantastic job, Kyu would have been proud to accompany you

I am trying to just get notes for Sukiyaki on guitar-and it is almost impossible.
Could you send me the notes, tab or just type in the melody line?
Your playing has the sound that I like just as an instrumental.
Thank you.
