I was Bill's guitar tech on this tour so it was a bit of a time-warp to see this footage! I am in the opening shot tuning guitars so it really takes me back. it was a fantastic tour, lots of excitement and many YMO personnel around making it Magic! Bill & I were in ther Studio Alpha 11 floors up when an earthquake hit making it even more memorable. Yuki & Bill decided at the end of this to do 'Helpless' by Neil Young and they sent the tapes over to the UK for Bill to work on.
This song is new to me and I totally love it. Now who is on the guitar because it sounds as if Bowie and Yukihiro have both collaborated with the guitarist. Very similar sounds.
@lambchopsf yeah, it's great isn't it? That lovely sound swirling in and out through the track. Bill Nelson's your man... blonde hair, far left. If you look up a recent interview here or look on his website, he's almost unrecognisable - tells you how many years have passed.
I find his playing similar at times to Robert Fripp. That could be a bit of a Bowie connection for you, Fripp played on some earlier albums like Heroes and Scary Monsters.
what a great post - I thought myself lucky to appreciate this music back in the 80s on scratchy vinyl and unreliable cassette tape - and now I find live video versions after all this time. YOU MADE MY DAY :-)
Bill put YMO and Yuki in his songlists for his thern fanzine, so I was introduced to a whole new exciting brand of electronic pop that still has me tapping me toes to this day. Enjoyed this because of the daft? chap with the strat..was he on the saki or just high? enjoyed himself anyway.
Thank you for your comments ummodiscs. This music is as fresh and fantastic as it was then. Where the songs had some thought involved whether lyrical or musical. Interesting and exciting too! though i didnt realise david palmer played on ABC's first album 'Lexicon of Love'. Bill nelson now married to yukihiro's x-wife :) regards...
one of the better tracks from that album. And back in the days when Japanese artists work intelligently with foreign talent. When I interviewed JM Jarre in Tokyo I was incredulous that he chose T Komuro over these guys to work with in Japan. I wish all these tedious Brit-pop bands these days would use more electro sounds. Remarkable that this 1983 track sounds more advanced than today.

Who is the guitarist? Sounds like Bowie collaborated with the guitarist. Very familiar sound. Love this song. Just got turned on to it.
