You need to do more of these. It's an awesome idea. Though it's a little less organized (phahaha a little :P) but it's like.. more personal. It's really cool to watch you developing the idea, rather than just explaining how you got the the end product. Not to say I don't love the 7 day songs, I watch them all the time too. But moar of these!!
to get the "yo yo" basses, make a thor with a square wave and put the digi structor pre set from scream four onto your signal chain. then mess with the p1 and p2 knobs to your taste :)
nice vids man. thanks for showing new reason6! finaly they put audio tracks in! personaly i dont use reason because im the one who thinks no vst support is disadvantage... but its a nice app for having fun making music for sure. and yes u can use it a "vst way" in rewire mode so no problem there after all;)
So, it doesn't have vst support. I understand why this is keepin' it stable and solid as a "reality" of sounds and music sharing, but...I have a question, this means I cannot (for example) utilize Massive or similar "instruments"?
I don't have massive actually, or any other external vst, but I know some of them and it would be fuckin' amazing to have the possibility to use Massive for the bass lines in Reason...wouldn't?
@Absintize I'm not a Reason user, but Rewire it's a technology that exists in many DAWs(like Reason, Cubase, FL Studio, Studio One and such...). Rewiring allows you to receive sounds from a different DAW running on your computer into your primary DAW(Reason). So for example, if you got Cubase, you can open Reason, Rewire Cubase and inside Cubase add your VST instrument. how to do this? they're many tutorials about that around youtube, just search "Reason Rewire". hope that helps :]
Thank you, I search the video on how to do that!! :D
Last question: with this rewire thing I can finally record what I do with the vst in (referring to your example) Cubase, in the sequencer in Reason? In order to have finally all things recorded in reason?
@adir544 I found something about cubase and reason, but if I understand clearly it shows the possibility to rewire reason IN cubase, not the contrary. Well, not a problem, if I can have what I've done in Reason in Cubase, I will simply use this to do the final passages to have the music file
@Impaler71 Well, ReBirth emulates having two TB-303s, a TR-808, and a TR-909. Also the view count is saying 303 for everybody because this was just posted recently (weird Youtube thing).
great vid. I thought it was interesting how you mention bass modulation in "oldschool" vs "newschool" (or nu-skool lol) dubstep. the oldschool that you are referring to is only a few years old, yet it sounds so completely different to what is coming out today. Oh how fast the genre is evolving!
They call it Mod for programming reasons (no pun intended :P)
It's easier to call whatever it is a mod, rather than making it change to PW, Pos, Colour, Detune or whatever the name of that thing that controls the shape of your square wave on the analog oscillator is called.
This same so called "lazy" programming is the reason (once again, no pun intended, it just happens so easily!) why the track name isn't changed by default.
That sounded awesome. It's definitely nice to have both types of tutorials as the 7 day songs really help break down the composition of songs whereas something like this really shows how the creative process
to be honest i really enjoyed watching you "figuring out" that bass. i learned more just by watching your process. you should include more of the in your videos.
yaahh man dope I got my reason 6 upgrade pay what you want and I have been in the zone really good tut bro always enjoy your work and you are always having fun love it Respect!!!!
Secondly, I really don't take the lack of third party plug-ins as some sort of plus. You could just the basic synths in any software (E.g. I'm a Logic guy and could design everything in ES2 or Sculpture and everyone with Logic could open it, it's not a specific thing to Reason). Also, the use of VSTs shouldn't be seen an advantage or disadvantage. As the ladies always say to me, it's not the VST but how you use it ;)
I don't think it works nearly as well as it does for video games. This is just an unedited tutorial right? However saying that, the more Dave the better so I'm not complaining!
I've read so many comments from you guys saying what you enjoy specifically about these videos, and yesterday's video has over 100 likes. Frickin' awesome. Cheers so much for the support and your thoughts.
@wwwboyinabandcom Hell that pulverizer!!! If you noticed in forum about my question on Excision distortion - can it be that pulverizer dirt is thing it did THE JOB?
Dave, I've always loved your videos. These videos are so so so good. They're so natural, personal and extremely informative. Thanks for making them dude.
Like yesterday, this new format is very enjoyable, and actually more informative as it shows the thought process and experimentation that does into the development!
Liking the on-the-fly format so far. Nice to see how others develop their ideas, and it helps to think about approaching the writing process from a different angle when you're blocked (as I've been for weeks now).
