@JeffGordonFan2420 that's a dumb thing to say to wish anybody to get into a bad wreck like that. Jimmie's a good guy he doesn't deserve all this hate from the fans. I'm not a Jimmie Johnson fan, but I think he's one of the class acts of NASCAR and even if people want to live by the lie that he doesn't deserve to be a champion, they should still respect him for how calm and collective he stays most of the time - and he's never disrespectful towards the fans.
@erasetoimprove he deserves to be a champion, but not a five-time champ. he only comes on strong at the end, whereas everyone else has to put up an incredible season to hope that they can have a chance to beat him come homestead
@kingofrunescapepking well I think he deserves to be champion because I would rather have a guy come on strong in the end, than like what we used to see every season guys being strong all season then being able to cruise easy the last 10 races. Sometimes it was exciting, most of the time the championship was a bore. I still don't really pay much attention to championships.... what's a championship? There's a RACE going on.
@kingofrunescapepking lol sounds like you're blaming Jimmie for that. Actually Jeff Gordon could have easily won that year had he not fucked it up. Don't get me wrong, I like Jeff Gordon more than Jimmie Johnson, but JG really blew it that year. Just goes to show you that the Chase requires more consistency than the old system. Most of Jeff's championships he kind of slacked off at the end of the season. Can't do that anymore.
@erasetoimprove it couldn't have possibly been jeff. he had a 500 point lead before the chase and the chase put him 20 back. he only lost 50-something points during the chase
@kingofrunescapepking it's still not Jimmie's fault. Jimmie didn't STEAL anything. The rules are the rules.... when every driver knows of the rules, and has to follow the same exact rules... then it's fair no matter what happens. Also a 500 point lead? try 312 points. Jeff Gordon won only 2 of those races while Jimmie Johnson won 4. JJ was clearly the better driver when it counted most. Can't hate on Jimmie for that, it's NASCAR's rules... but they are by no means "unfair."
@kingofrunescapepking and if you think about it, if fans hadn't been complaining "make wins more important for the chase," NASCAR would have kept it the same as it originally was... with everyone starting the chase in the positions they finished regular season in. Overall though, I think NASCAR's been getting things right in 2010 and 2011. Plus, in 2013 some exciting things are going to be happening to bring back manufacturer identity - which goes far beyond what we even see in Nationwide COT.
@erasetoimprove here's what i know. without jeff gordon, jimmie would never have gotten to the cup. if jimmie had never gotten to the cup, this discussion wouldn't be happening
@kingofrunescapepking but Jeff Gordon wanted Jimmie in Cup because he saw his potential. And in all honesty, Jimmie Johnson was performing very well in almost every racing series he entered... from dirt tracks in the mid 90s to short tracks like Concord (one of the hardest half mile tracks in the country) in the late 90s, to when he came into NASCAR. It's not like Jeff Gordon hired a would-be nothing. He would be in Cup either way, just maybe not in a good ride as fast.
@kingofrunescapepking either way better a talent like him gets a good shot than never getting one. Better than if Jeff hired somebody that under-performed for him. By the way, not sure if you heard... but Jeff is apparently going to be one of the future track builders of NASCAR, which is great news. He built an awesome short track in Canada, if that's what he has to offer then I'm excited for when he retires (hopefully after he wins a couple more championships, of course).
@erasetoimprove remember the old mesa marin raceway? the one that got torn down and a replacement track stalled due to financial issues? it would be nice to see jeff chip in to get that finished up
Hey, not to go against Jeff Burton, 'cause I like him a lot too, but Jeff took two hits that could've easily broke his ribs, while Jeff Burton only took one massive blow. Now I like Burton, don't get me wrong, but let's remember one thing, Jeff Burton hasn't had any reports of any physical problems with his body, Jeff Gordon has a bad back, and that was a result of hard hits like this one that he's taken over the years.
I think maybe they should open up that backside of the track there so if something happens everyone has a chance to avoid it. For people who think its funny or cheer when certain drivers get in accidents what if that guy is dead how would you feel? You would have to live with that! Im glad those guys where ok it was alot worst then it looked even for all of them!
@ajsg09 and have you noticed every time Gordon has an on board camera, he always crashes out of the race. Whereas everybody else does, and they run good and win.
tony is not a road course king gordon is okay the reason y hes not running good because there giving him shity setups look at 2001 and see for yourself before johnson came along and fucked shit up.
dale who lol what a joke well u cant crash the other drivers now so how many would he have maybe 2 go back and see all the 1s he would never have won if he hadent taken out other drivers
gordons best days are behin em,jus like dw and r wallace, said they have their dominate times ...then they become mediocre,,,just like wallace ,waltrip, petty al before them,,,johnsons time will come soon too...bet on it
gordon can still win the championship...having 1 win is good. you dont need to win races to be the champ...but you need to get top 5's and 10's and finish and not wreck. this has been a better year for gordon than the last couple years
i agree..remember when kenseth wont the championship back on 03..he only had 1 win that whole season..and on the jeff gordon thing..honestly i hope he reties..man if he gets a few more wrecks like this its gonna mess his back up really bad..id hate to see that happen..lol pretty strange commin from a kurt fan?
yeah, thats pretty messed up coming froma kurt fan..lmao. but ima gordon fan. i think he should retire. he has a family now, and family comes frist before racing, plus his back. so if he gets in another bad wreck imagine what could happen.
THAT WAS A HARD HIT!!!!! and I still think Jeff Gordon gots what it takes to get his head back into the race and win his 5th title this year P.S remember when some crazy fans were like he is not going to win another race.......uhhh what did he do at Texas .... Yeah I rest my case so Jeff Gordon 2009 Sprint Cup Champ thank you and if you have anything else to say well I am here :D
Not championship material dude he is 3rd in points with a win. I know alot of people may think hes washed up but not alot of people know the same Jeff Gordon i do i listen to the scanner everytime i go to the race and sometimes there off a bit or alot and Jeff finds a way to get a good finish almost everytime. I'll never doubt him because hes proved me wrong more than once. People can think what they want to think.
Im going to be a gordon fan tell he retires and prob beyond that. I'll be a fan if he wins another championship or if he doesnt he doesnt have anything left to prove he has accomplished everything any driver could ever dream of in less than 20 years. If he walked away tomorrow i wouldnt regret a thing because its been a great ride. He was there for me when i was a kid watching my mom get drunk everyday if it wasnt for Jeff Gordon or nascar idk where i would be.
To 24thebeast: Your not the only one thinking that too! Maybe its a curse or something lol! But seriously look at some of the times he used a roof camera--Talladega-wrecked, All star race-wrecked, Infineon-speeding penalty ... Now watkins glen joined that list!
what they SHOULD DO is put up temp walls, i'm talkin like 600lb concreete barriers there, and make it an even keel tha tway cars will just slide on it.
