Its called a Karst region. there is a lot of underground chemical weather that creates massive underground drainage, hence where all the water goes. Thats just what i learned from my geology class
That is my house that the person is on the property of to take this video. Thank you for Trespassing.. It is not on the map or the internet.. Wait.. yes it is.. If you look for a lake in Marcellus u will find it.. It is between Pleasant Valley Road and Slate Hill.. Just to let people know.. (It is beautiful when it is dried up..)
wow. the lake is still there. plants just cover it up which makes it look like nothings there. like you see in a lake shore or river shore. kinda got me for a minute as well. lol.
@theboss3453 the lake actually does dry up in the summer months and returns in the spring to flood out pleasant vally rd. you can walk on solid dry ground. this is probably a bad video to use as this is before its final dry up stage. Lived in Marcellus all my life trust me the water goes away completely.

@rcoony ok so perhaps "WORLD" famous was a bit too strong a word to use LOL but to the people of the Syracuse NY area they all know about it. The State DOT has for years tried to figure out where the water comes from and goes too and even built an elaborate drainage system that has failed to eliminate the water collection it cost local tax payers hundreds of thousands of dollars.
there are 3 drain holes located at the bottom of the lake. there have been many dives that have attepted to find the whereabouts of the water when it disappears but no one has ever figured it out.
my grandma lives next to the lake. i used to go there every day when i was really little.
Disappearing Lake in Marcellus, New York is a natural wonder. In any given year the valley may be full of water, or completely dry as shown here. Dye tests have been done, but it has never been determined exactly where the water goes when it disappears.
I live near here and I have no idea about it.

it's caused by the water table rising during the winter time of the year. the water doesn't "go" anywhere. it's level just drops
