Hearing the music, I just want you to know that I have never, never, never given up on the possibility of the Mario Rock Opera being revived in a big way. And now that you're going to NYC, well, maybe, just maybe, you could network yourself into a Nintendo contact and get the rights . . . It's just so good, and there's so many small venues in NY where I know that it would go over BIG--
I actually prefer the Doki Doki reskin Super Mario Bros 2, as opposed to the Japanese Super Mario Bros 2. The Japanese sequel was VERY similar to the original, so much so that it was hardly a sequel, it's more like Super Mario Bros 1.5. The US sequel was better for that fact that it was so different and interesting in my opinion.
I, also, do not remember anyone saying anything bad about Mario 2 when I was young (Around the same time as you). I remember liking it even more, in fact. I still remember the first time I beat it. I was up way before school started and I finished it like, 5 minutes before I had to leave for school. I didn't wanna miss the ending so I ended up leaving late.
SMB2 is hands down my favorite game of all time, i just loved it's imaginitive quirky ness, crazy characters and dream-like(oh wait..) worlds as a child.
And Game Jew hit it out of the park regarding how kids complain these days while being completely hilarious with his impersonation in the process haha. But yup, I miss the 80's and early 90's! I don't remember Anybody complaining about anything. we were much more positive and accepted pretty much everything. Miss those days!
Someone should do that today just for the sake of being controversial. I'd like to see the Super Mario Bros. 2 thing happen again just to see how the Internet would react about it. Nintendo needs to make like a... Super Mario Galaxy 3... but instead of being a new game just edit some Japanese-only game with Mario characters. The Internet would go wild and be all like "I'm never buying Nintendo products again", then they'll play it and be like "Hey, this is actually pretty good". But, who knows?
I'm a couple years older than you, but we're basically the same age. I don't remember anyone complaining about Mario 2 either. I loved it, even more so than the original.
What you say has some truth, but remember that no one complained about Mario 64, either. Remix or no, fourth to last note in the main phrase is a B, not a D.
It's the same with Zelda II, just because it's a platformer people rage about it, because it's different from the rest. But it's the second game so there's no standard. There's no reason to get mad over these games.
Well, personally I don't mind if next game is different than the previous game as long as the changes are good and the game doesn't feel castrated compared to previous installment.
Let's take Castlevania as an example. 1st game was ok. 2nd game was whole lotta different but still a great game, symhony of the night was entirely different and my lord was it awesome.
It is all about programmer's choises, not how different it is but how is it different.
That is a pretty good point. I mean people are so critical of something that is just a bit different that they just disown it immediately. But then again information was so hard to get out to people who didn't read gaming magazines, or people who weren't directly involved in making video games that. So if people did know it was a copy of a different game back then, it might not have been as highly praised. But still, it's a fun game, so does it really matter?

Good video. Though if Mario 2 were released today, it would still have fans as well as haters.

Yeah, I wasn't complaining that SMB 2 was Different from the original. I thought it was great.
Besides, the "real" SMB 2, the lost levels, looked more like an expansion to the first then a true sequel.
