I will never forget when he hit 62. I was just a kid and my mom went NUTS. She named my brother after him a week later. No performance enhancing drug can cloud that memory.
Put This Guy In The Hall Of Fame, Just Do it He Is a Role Model And Would Go Out Of His Way For Fans, Pete Rose Was Just an Jackass Rose Was At A High School World Champ Game And When They Ask For AN Autograph Because They Were Estatic To See Him he Said "Just Stay Away From Me" I Dont Care Who You Are Pete Rose Over 4000 Hits Or Not Theres No Reason To Be That Arrogent SCREW Pete Rose McGwire All The Way!
What about all of the other players that were using P.E.Ds during those same years that did not do what Mark, Sammy and Barry did. They were just as guilty but were not in the spotlight because, simply put, they were just not as talented. Do you really think Hrbeck, Jeff Kent, Joe Carter, etc., and the like were not using these drugs as well?? Hell, I bet there were tons of players that were not sluggers who were using too.
Ok so everybody with no talent whatsoever uses steroids and becomes a major leaguer. You r truly right and I just took my hat of because of you knowledgeable statement.
Ok so everybody with no talent whatsoever uses steroids and becomes a major leaguer. You r truly right and I just took my hat of because of you knowledgeable statement.
@ramrod20042000 He was a prolific home run hitter in college setting records, and he obliterated the rookie home run record in 1987. Even though he did use steroids in his career, they were not banned then, so I don't really care. People use Viagra, I don't condemn them for it.
I don't know why Mark McGwire felt like he had to use steroids, I feel like he would have still hit alot of home runs. I knew that when Barry Bonds hit 73 in a single season that he was on steroids because in the 12 to 14 years that he had already been playing the most he has hit in a single season the total of home runs were 44 and for Barry to hit 73 that was a dead give away.
i forget the comedian, but he said let them juice up and become meat covered robots for my entertainment.sounds good to me let 'em go,make my 20$ for a crappy beer and hotdog worth a show
I was there for Number 70 and photographed it for posterity. Costas, Schaap, Selig all have enlargements. When I saw him hit No 17 in May in StL, I ran down to the box office to get tickets for the last two games of the season. I knew it was going to be a very special season. No regrets.
@CoolReallyIAm your an idiot dude.... you can dis up jose cause he just got to the slugger rank , but pujols is gunna pass mcgwire in hits homeruns rbs and batting average LOL exactly mcgwire dosent compare to pujols , pujols hits 40hr and 300.+ consistanlty. how many times did mcgwire hit 300+ in his 20+ years 1 or 2 ?
@ramrod20042000 if pujols was juicing ever since the drug use rule was made in 2003 and you stupid amercicans havent found out then your just a bunch of retards.. he's clean LOL you prolly dont even watch baseball you just watch the highlights and whenever a guy does good you go on your computer and start dissing them online
@2akamatt A sign of steroid use is male pattern baldness. What was Pujois 24 and going bald? I would do the same thing for a 100 million dollar contract.
@CAepicreviews I think that Griffey Jr. hit 40 home runs in 111 games in 1994. Matt Williams hit 43 home runs in about the same number of games. In 1995, I think Griffey Jr. hit 33 (not certain). In 1996 he hit 49, in 1997 he hit 56 home runs with 147 RBI (his MVP year). In 1998 he hit 56 and in 1999 he hit 48. He really was on a tear.
Sweet! Bring back 1998 steroids or not I really don't care! I'd much rather see McGuire crushing one out of the park than overrated Derek Jeter hittng another lucky bloop single to shallow center field ugh....
@AlanFoon yea ya dont condone but who would? besides remeber that new guy bryce harper heres what ahppend
2 pitches at his head one down the middle and he turned on it to far foul and the picther says" i did that so you would hit it foul" next pitch was sent into the 3rd upper deck
@AlanFoon yo man listen u need even more skill to hit it after steriods but i feel bad for ken griffey had the seasen not been shortend to 111 games he would have won the record at likle 70 coz 56 home runs in 111 gaqmes= a home run every 1.98 gamesso by the end of the season at that raTE HE WOULD HAVE 81 HOME RUNS
@AlanFoon LOL I WATCHED THIS AGAIN AND I WAS THE 1000TH VIEWER BUT THE STERIODS HE DID DID NOTHING LOOK AT HS ROOKIE YEAR AND ADD 2 HOMERUNS EACH MONTH TO NORMAL TOTAL AND 3 IN 1 MONTH THERE U HAVE IT 62
PS I LOVE HOW ALL THE OTHER HOMERUNS ARE LONG INTO THE STANDS BUT #62 WAS THE SHOTEST HOMERUN OF THAT YEAR
@CAepicreviews I'm not condoning the use of performance-enhancing drugs. But, from what I understand, steroids may increase the distance that the ball travels off the bat, but it won't improve your hand-eye coordination. McGwire and Bonds must still have had the raw ability to hit the ball well.
O THOSE WERE THE DAYS WHEN BASEBALL BECAME RELEVANT. PEOPLE LOVED THE GAME ONCE AGAIN AND WE ALL WERE GLAD. THAT TIME IN HISTORY REVIVED BASEBALL FROM TATAL DEATH.
@AlanFoon think about Bonds even more than McGwire... he would frequently bat in the .350s and above, with 40 plus homers.... all that with being walked 200 times a year... he really did some amazing things after he joined the giants
He was hitting balls out of the park before he even had a clue what steroids were. The one in particular that he took was a powerdful muscle builder anyway! That's "NOT" what he took it for! The assclown bonds, on the other hand couldn't hit a ball past shortstop without them! He looked like a skinny woman when he first came into pro baseball.
@CAepicreviews Hi CAepicreviews, Actually, 1987 was McGwire's rookie season. In that season, he hit 49 home runs, and slugged .618. His batting average was .289. (I don't mean to be rude--I'm just trying "to set the record straight.") You should be commended, though, for your interest in details (i.e., dates and facts). Best Wishes, QuotidianPerfection
Best one he hit was his 38th off of Billy Wagner and answering sosa with his 53rd. Oh not to mention his record breaking 62. Every home run mcgwire hits makes me jump out of my shoes. Its amazing what he accomplished even with the steroids. Most importantly he brought back baseball.
@paulwalderman90 I liked that last weekend of the 1998 season. They both had 65 coming into that Friday. Sosa hit number 66 to take the lead for an hour, then McGwire tied him. On Saturday McGwire hit numbers 67 and 68. Then on Sunday I heard that he had hit number 69 and I was exhilarated. Then he hit number 70 in his last at bat of the season that same day.

ramrod20042000 has replied to your comment on Mark McGwire's 70 home run swings in 1998:
@raydiabolico A homerun equals a rutine fly without "supplements". Only won one golden glove. Would not have made the Majors without his "vitimins"
