Thanks for the vid I was looking into buying one but I choose another firearm I am a sig guy and have done ext. training with sigs and am use to the sig SRT and would be in trouble with that firearm. looks like a great fun g=but it is not for me. Thanks
I would say the gun has other features most that type do not so it would still be worth it. If you can teach people to take a manual safety off other guns while they are getting there head kicked in I'm sure they can be taught trigger control.
My bud has a Springfield 1911 that has an issue with the rear sight screw loosening up after a few rounds and falling off the slide. I guess I better get on the ball and spread the word that Springfield 1911's are junk. Come to think of it, my car leaks a little bit of oil, I wouldn't feel right about not letting the public know that all cars are junk too! Oh MY and, my laptop locks up once in a while, holy crap, all computers are junk too! Who knew one single item reflected on all others made?
My conclusions were based solely upon this mans presentation video; & please notice the phrase "THIS PARTICULAR ONE" and later in my comment "THIS TCP MODEL", & also "dangerous to "ITS" (singular, not plural) owner. And again "pass on THIS Taurus". I was speaking only of the firearm presented, not yours, & many others out there. Taurus is a great company, but "this" Particular pistol in its present form still seems useless & dangerous. Reading & retention will help us all! Thanks I will cycle.
@scanpacker I hate to tell you but your verbiage does not give any indication that you were speaking of one gun in specific. Anyone reading your comment would conclude that you were speaking in general terms. The words you so deliberately point out are also appropriate for generalizing, not solely a singular individual piece. Your comment lent itself to imply that the TCP model (in general) would be dangerous it's owner (in general). We're not all as illiterate as you believe.
@scanpacker....Sorry I did not mean to imply you were illiterate; perhaps my verbiage was not as plain as I had thought. I was speaking of the singular videoed firearm only, as I am a huge Taurus fan, and both own and love several of their products. I've never had any problems. Once again please accept my apology! thanks
I like Taurus handguns very much; BUT this particular one seems like an incident waiting to happen. I love my PT-99, and trust my safety, and well being to it each day, but I must say that this TCP model seems useless and even dangerous to its owner in a gunfight. I'd have to pass on this Taurus. Thanks for the info, and video.
@scanpacker why would you conclude that this taurus seems dangerous just because the person posting it has an issue that can be fixed if he'd only return it. As I said in my post (if you read any) my 738 TCP does not do what he is showing. There simply is NO half point to the reset of trigger at all. You have no choice with mine but to complete a full sweep, it never dead falls into this condition. You should cycle one at a shop before concluding it's "useless" or "dangerous"
@satkaiwal123 yeah mines a POS too, it's digested about 500 rounds now without displaying any problems, misfeeds or the issue shown here. I'm so unhappy with it I think I'm going to put another 500 through it this weekend. woe is me.
the fact they mention it in the manual (which you cant read untill you buy it) gives me reason to believe they knew there was a problem and were just using the old C.Y.A. technique.
been in law enforcement approx 10 years and every training class including swat courses teach you to stack the trigger before beginning your trigger pull, upon firing you let your finger out during recoil untill the first reset then you can begin another trigger pull. the comment "who the fuck lets a trigger out halfway befor trying to fire again" hmmm, how about millions of proffesionals
@rigsby556 In a self defense scenario, which this gun is clearly solely designed for who the fuck is going to sit there and say wait bad guy i didn't hit you with that first round. Let me release my trigger until i hear my reset then i will put out another round. I smell bacon... Pigs are some of the worst shots i see at the range. Cops know nothing. no competent police officer is going to short stroke in a gun fight, sorry bud. Maybe if you are bullseye shooting at the range.
You are correct. If experience teaches us anything, it is that if something can go wrong it will go wrong at the worst possible moment. I suggest people take your experience to heart.
I think you need to go back and read the original blog post this video was linked to. Taurus confirmed that the handgun was designed to function as mine and the dozen or so others I have tested since does.
I think it's safe to say that after thoroughly examining mine you should send yours back for repair as this "problem" seems relegated to your individual firearm and not the TCP design in general. There just simply is no post fire half stroke trigger disconnect in mine whatsoever. Taurus has a good reputation for repairs, send it in and keep up posted.
Maybe yours in broken. Mine was returned twice with a detailed explanation and I was informed twice it was functioning perfectly. BUT, if your TCP works as you have indicated it should be a fine pistol for personal protection.
My Taurus TCP WILL NOT, DOES NOT do what is being depicted in this video. You can not in fact "short stroke" the trigger. There is no 1/2 stroke reset click on mine. The only option there is is a full reset. I am not missing any points. I have cycled my TCP many times trying to duplicate this and it simply can't be done. There is no point at which the trigger clicks and then goes dead as shown. I understand 100% what you show and mine does not do that. Yours just needs to be returned and fixed.
After over 10,000 views and a lot of comments, many still don't get it. Once again, if you short stroke the trigger on this handgun (by accident like you might when you are getting beat to death or shot at) the gun becomes inoperative and you have to cycle the slide to get it back in action. This is not common with other guns and it is not a good idea for a defensive handgun. You can rationalize this all you want by referencing the instructions or price but it does not change the facts.
@RAMWV After My first comment I went and checked my Kel tec p3at it does exactly the same thing it would stand to reason since that and the Ruger LCP are very very similar designs the ruger does it as well. So I would say yes it is common
@dustyak79 I think if you will try that again with your Keltec you will find that short stroking the trigger does not disable the mechanism like with the Taurus. I know it is NOT the case with the Ruger.
Guess what guys, this isn't the only gun that will not fire if you short stroke it. i have a Ruger LCR, thats the revolver, and it will too. i mentioned it to a friend and he said most double action revolvers will mess up on a short stroke.
The real question here is simple... Who the fuck lets the trigger half-way out and tries to shoot again? with any gun? taurus is just trying to prevent people from short stroking on a pocket pistol. I have never had one problem with my 738 just read the manual. don't nitpick and be a jackass... the gun is 200 dollars. don't bitch.
As a person who has had to discharge a firearm for personal defense, to think that one would have the mindset to ensure that the trigger returned all the way, lest they be fighting for their lives with an (temporarily) unusable weapon is ludicrous. I distinctly recall that 100% of my intellectual bandwidth was being used to get as many rounds downrange as fast as possible. This design is potentially lethal.
As with any firearm, one needs to practice and learn how to use it properly. What I'd like to know is which publication refused an article that pointed out a slight flaw in the pistol. A magazine that accepts advertising from Taurus, perhaps?
If you dont like the Taurus Buy Something Else! Plain and Simple! Buy yourselves one of those $35K Ed Browns or whatever and see how you like carrying that EDC. And when that firearm coughs then dont badmouth it, just blame it on the ammo as some who will be in denial do.
My first thought was that this was a silly complaint, as improper use is obviously not going to be a good thing and I have fired many rounds through mine with no problem (well, without THIS problem). However, I am firing leisurely, not in a stressful situation. AND... the Ruger and Keltec with nearly-identical operation both prevent this half-release by not allowing the trigger to be pulled until it is fully reset.
I own this amazing weapon, I have fired thousands of rounds through it and never experienced this so called "problem". This is not ROCKET SCIENCE!!! Just shoot the damn gun.
wow i own one of these my wife carrys it and bruther i have never had that problem becuase i never tried to shoot it that way i understand what you are saying though about high risk situation or tactical and or moderate short quater combat thats amazing did you tell taurus and if you did how did they respond?
a taurus, what do you expect? It's a piece of shit. Every other DAO pistol have a first reset that wont allow the pistol to fire, but if you release the trigger all the way forward, it will reset and be ready to fire once again. The TCP doesn't do that, so when you short stroke the trigger, you're shit out of luck. what a piece of junk.
All semi autos must be learned, trigger reset is something, perhaps the first thing the range should teach you, also if you are to rely on a handgun for self defense BE PREPARED FOR ANYTHING.
Yes we will be excited and yes it is sad to live like that but it is all around us.
Your weapon is your ultimate survival tool. Be intimate with your weapon.
You need to let the trigger all the way out and the gun should fire. My Taurus Public Defender Polymer revolver does the same thing with the trigger. It failed to fire because I did not let the trigger back out. Shooter Error.
wow. am i glad i stumbled upon this video. i was looking to see what's out there as a compact .32 and i won't have any interest in this gun anymore. I already have the Beretta, but I think i'll consider the Kel-Tec instead of the Taurus.
Thank you for posting this. I find that flaw quite disturbing. The gun definitely cannot be relied upon under stressful conditions if the trigger could fail in such a manner.
It's a double action only with no second strike ability. I don't see that as a problem, unless you absolutely can't release the trigger properly. If it was a traditional DAO it'd have a 8-12lb trigger pull like the rest of 'em. Obviously if one can't operate this style of mechanism buy something else.
@fluffydub Semantics aside, most striker fired pistols are only partially cocked by the slide with the remainder of the of the stroke left to the trigger. These are considered DAO but have no re-strike ability.
Thank you very much for this honest review. Let me say you stated your case well. It definitely didn't come across as an anti-Taurus tirade where you say "The TCP is a piece o crap" and never demonstrate why.
I own this gun and have put 1000 rds through it and have never short stroked the trigger and neither has any of the other 15 people that have shot my gun, this only becomes a problem if you do not know what you are doing.....
Thank you for pointing this out cuz I wuld have tried shooting it as soon as I felt the reset of the trigger as I do in my SIG and maybe if I needed a 2nd shot to put down the perp with small .380 I wuld wind u dead too bad as the price of the TCP is great.
I see both sides of this. I understand that the manual states to let the trigger fully release, but if I were to encounter this without knowing, I wouldhave been screwed. Thanks for the information, I have one of these on the way and you have given me a valuable piece of information I wouldn't have known about otherwise.
I own this gun and have never experienced the issue you are describing. If you are short stroking the trigger you are untrained and probably shouldn't be carrying a gun. It also states very specifically in the manual that a full release of the trigger is required to function properly.
Its design was intended to shoot like a revolver! So for someone shooting revolvers alot can get use to it! Basically its a automatic revolver design! Thats why it has a long reset trigger! And its not intended to shoot like your glock style guns! I dont know anyone shooting a revolver on second reset, you just simply cant shoot it like that! Yes I would carry it! Cause I do!
We have two TCPs, and brought them both to the range today after watching this video recently. Neither one has the behavior described in this video. Neither has ever had ANY failures whatsoever either, in 200-300 rounds thru each. YMMV I guess.
wow.... as a glock owner... I would want to stop at that point becasue in glocks, when you feel the click, its reset and now you have less trigger pull for the second shot..... as I've been shooting Glocks for 15 years, it would be very hard for me to get away from that and i'm sure it would mess me up... thatnk you VERY much for this. I know I'd have been very unhappy with this pistol because of that "problem"
Point taken. However, any one with any firearms training experience will tell you that is a bad design that is opening up the user for failure.
