Typed in Candyman and none of the suggestions were/are for the Grateful Dead. I'm only 17 and I am honestly wondering what is wrong with the world. Oh and thanks for the upload this song/album/band are fucking awesome.
SuperFirewire1: check beery? Yeah dude, yeah. Grateful Dead sung of the hard side of America. The hard side can be hell itself. Some listen to their parents, but others learn the hard way.
these guys are almost better then the beatles and the monkees.but they still are nowhere near zappa!!! i love jethro tull as my best band ever!!!! God bless check beery the true king of rock
You know the one thing about being a "Deadhead" is that so many of you got 2gether to upload these videos to YouTube for others of us to enjoy. "I'd stay ALL DAY, just to hear Jerry play."................Thank you......You make the Dead alive again. I'n 50 sumthin' & my blood is flowing
This music shouldn't JUST be associated with drug use and free sex. I'm a staunch conservative civil libertarian, former Marine, and current serving US Army Sergeant. The GD is the BEST folk music ever. They are as American as apple pie. I'm tired of people making these associations. If anything... the GD came before the revolution. The revolution just adopted this music as their own... when, in fact, it didn't belong to any political or social movement.
@BallisticPenetration The Grateful Dead were essentially the start of the drug era. Before they were the dead, they were known as The Warlocks and played at small venues, but they were also invited to participate in the acid tests of the early-mid sixties. There they would trip along with everyone else and play there psychedelic/experimenal music. They played a huge role in the movement.
Very few albums have changed my life like this one has. I wouldn't be the man I am today if it weren't for American Beauty, and I'm pretty content with who I am (all you can ask for, eh?).
It's amazing to me how less free we are now than back then. We like to think that everyone was so uptight but it's exactly the opposite. Political correctness , regulations up the wazoo, cameras everywhere. It sucks, I live in the boondocks on a little farm and the rest of the world can go to hell.
Man this is flooding back some memories of better days gone by. Fuck this day and age. Fuck this new world order. I just wanna be back in the days of this stuff right here. We didnt even have a clue that life as we knew it was going to be stolen from us and whored out. Now we have dead souls like Ga-Ga. Fuck this world.
I am usually a new rock listener, but I have a few soft spots for classic rock, one of them being the Dead. I always love dedicating myself to listening to an entire vinyl album start to finish.
I miss Jerry Garcia. He died the year Cassidy was born.I wish I could reconnect with everything I was trying to find back then. There are remnents, flashbacks etc. Where did everyone go? Where is the magic now.Is there anybody out there like me?
my best friend joe from austell ga. wanted this song played at his funeral. he turned me on to the dead so many years ago. here it is just for you brother. always bros, we just picked up where we left off.... -keith
i'm playing the whole album through via your channel. i got the urge to listen to it right away because i just packaged a copy of it to send to someone. he said he doesn't have this album and i knew that it would be one of the greatest gifts i could ever give him. i'm gonna bring it to the post office on monday. it will change his life when he gets it. i hope he finds as much peace and joy through it as i do.
@nocaster4747 I love Jerry Garcia's change from electric guitar to the solo on steel pedal guitar.I have a whole playlist of just steel pedal guitar songs by many artists & he not only played on a very pro level, but his style was unique only to him!
@RasMajnouni Totally, I love the way he played the pedal steel, it's just so beautiful and haunting. I wish he would have done it more often on their studio records. I think it was him on CSandN "Teach Your Children." Also some great playing.
@RasMajnouni to be sure, Jerry was very unique in his approach to the steel. Having amongst his influences the bluegrass and folk thing, it seemed a natural instrument for him to stretch out on! His sound was truly his own.
@keitheeweithee yeah it sounds great, i didnt even know it was a pedalsteel! he also plays it on 'laughing' from the david crosby album if only i could remember my name
@alexandermorison - That steel slide guitar solo by Jerry is simply out of this world - by far the most psychedelic use of an instrument usually heard in country music songs.
I've been looking for this one! Finally... I wish I could subscribe, but You Tube said (and, I quote): 'You have too many subscriptions compared to the number of your subscribers.' Idiots! They should have checked whether I keep up with the subscriptions I have!!! Anyway, thank you.
Mr. Benson must of watched this two times...
