  • i really love this song. im singing it wherever i go

  • When I have children, these are the songs I want them to listen, not some teen pop about how much they want to party....

  • My friend sang the last 16 bars of this and she was absolutely amazing!!! I was crying

  • Even though I am an Atheist I really Love this song

  • I love how classic Disney movies were dark and unafraid of touching on deeper themes for young and old viewers alike. :)

    This song is beautiful!

  • For those saying the Christianity condones Frollo's actions: It doesn't!

Do you think God ever wanted us to kill those different to us in his name? Absolutely not! The fact that there have been so many religious wars, inquisitions, and prejudice in the name of Christianity is a horrible scar on history. I, personally, although I am a Christian, am ashamed of the actions taken by early leaders "in the name of God."

  • I reallywish Disney would quit with the stuff they are making right now and go back to making animated films.

I can't find much entertainment in those teenagers that are their new stars now. I don't know how in the world they beat the animated moves.

  • Thissong is so beautiful!

  • i know esmeralda is a gypsy, but i think she is the closest we been to having a hispanic disney female. i mean the way she looks, even her name , esmeralda is a spanish word for emerald. who knows maybe she was born in spain and then she and her family moved to france. ( by the way she even looks kind of mexican.)

  • @robiking011 in the book she was born to parisian parents and stolen by the gypsies. but not really sure about the movie, i think she looks more east indian. but i want there to be a real hispanic princess, and i have always thought the story of esther would be a nice disney movie, and they need a (i really dont know how to say this nicely) fat/big/ plus size princess

  • @KyleOgilvie1 the movie is very different from the book, the characters may not even have the same background as in the book. and oh please, according to disney a heroine can never be fat/big/ plus size or ugly. a heroine always has to be beautiful.

  • My favorite part of the movie :) Just love this song

  • She has really pretty eyes. She was always my favorite :)

  • There's a reason these movies are called classics. There's a reason why we all remember them. The amount of dedication put into these movies is insane.

  • This is one of my favourite Disney movies... and this song is so beautiful... it makes me cry because i think of my childhood ;w;

  • Always makes me tear up a little

  • nvm i remember now

  • what movie is this from?

  • @magik12334 Hunchback of Notre Dame

  • listen guys, I'm an athiest, but i still love this song. can we stop dicussing religion and just enjoy the song?

  • This movie really makes you miss what kids shows could be. Now we try to protect them from life itself, and not let them see anything, I fear for this generation. Disney will never make a movie as dark as this again because America stopped parenting and wants TV to do it for them

  • This scene and song exemplifies perfectly how prayers should be given.

  • A very beautiful song. I liked this song a lot more than the "Someday" song. This is a lot deeper lyrically, and also shows a softer as well as stronger character in Esmeralda. They should have chosen this one most.

  • "God help the outcaste, I thought we are all children of God" this goes out to all them conservative closed minded christians.

  • @Udj808 How about all close-minded theists and atheists?

    Don't be inclusive.

    It's hypocritical.

  • @thefashion1ster its hypocritical because if it wasn't for people like you and your conservative mind there would be no problems. You speak of justice yet you are cruel to those in need of God's help you are not as close as you are to God as you think. Preach that the next time you go to church.

  • @Udj808 Lolwut?

    I'm an atheist.

  • 140 people are not outcasts.

  • This song put tears in my eyes. I love the line "I thought we were all children of God."

  • "I ask for nothing, I can get by. But I know so many less lucky than I."

Esmeralda has always been my favourite Disney "princess", if you can call her that. She actually fights for something and stands up for those who need it most. I miss the Classics so much :(

  • @electra7lfa too bad she dies in the original story

  • 1:11-1:23 I thinkwe can all agree that human nature can be awfull somtimes.

  • Thanks for upload this..

    THE BEST MEMORIES :') That's a REAL movie..with meaning..♥ That's Disney...

  • what genre is this ?

  • They need to re-release this movie!

  • Present disney cares about making money, past disney cared about making art

  • and I remember dressing like her and singing along when I was little :P

  • I used to love this as a child! Disney movies were still so lovely at this time.

  • im not religious at all but i love this song!!!!

  • This song isn't one that speaks to any one religion. It speaks to people. It asks that personal prejudice be put aside and that we all behave as decent human beings.

  • When I was little, this song didn't mean much to me. It was pretty, and that's all that I thought of it. But as I grew older, it became more and more relevant to me. As someone who was raised a Catholic, when I discovered who I really was... I felt like an outcast. I was a member of the faith in a sense, but on the outskirts. It's awfully hard to get people to pray for you when who you are goes against their doctrines.

Now when I hear this song, I cry. Anyone can pray. It doesn't matter to who.

  • I think Esmeralda is by far the prettiest of all the Disney princesses/heroins.

  • am i the only one who think that goat is just adorable

  • Do not fear me gypsy, all I want is your tears... Give them to me or I will Take them...

  • This makes me wonder if Disney has the balls to make movies like this again.

  • @AMxPunk Good for you. Care to tell us why that is relevant to a Disney song about humility and caring for those less fortunate than yourself?

  • @Theroha

    Because I can,Is there a problem?

  • @AMxPunk No problem other than most people don't appreciate obvious trolling. If you want to make a random claim on an unrelated video, at least be clever about it. I don't care if you're trying to start an argument or just being honest. All I ask is that you show more effort than just picking words in an attempt to offend people. If you want to offend people, you're doing a half-assed job.

  • @Theroha

    Haha

No sweetheart,I really am an egyptian atheist ex muslim and I do hate religion.Yeah atheist ex muslims,We're very rare I know. What my comment has to this with this video is that I do hate it when people "call on god" when they go through tough times as it frankly makes me sick.I am not trying to offend anybody,I hate religion not the religious

  • @AMxPunk Ok. It just sounded like an ill conceived attempt at pissing people off. If you've got a problem with religion, by all means express yourself, but please give a little more context or people will write you off as some 13 year old punk trying to make himself look cool.

  • @Theroha

I have no problem with people thinking I'm some 13 year old trying to look cool.I get called a fake ex muslim that is really a zionist, jew, christian and many things because people don't want to believe I'm an ex muslim lol

  • This song is so true for any group of people...

  • Simply inspirational.

  • So beautiful.

  • My mom looks like Esmeralda

  • 1:31 - 1:39 = (8 seconds)

That stain glass window took over 1 year to animate! The directors knew it would get less than 10 seconds of screen time; but they wanted it to look perfect in every last detail.

I want that dedication back! I want the old Disney back!

  • @daviddarkmaster wow, seriously? and you know what? the hard work they put in to making that stain glass beautiful really shows. Oh how the mighty has fallen GOD disney!

  • @daviddarkmaster Yeah, and every move took over 9 years to make for the whole movie. I want this kind of Disney back, with beautiful songs like this!

  • @daviddarkmaster Yes, this is back when Disney actually had effort put into their animated movies. Today i saddens me that they've been reduced to flims that look like flash. The only good stuff they make these days are Pixar & POTC. We sadly no longer have such great animation masterpieces. It's all about the money now.

  • @ProfessorJNature Disney stopped making classic films after Tangeld, which was the 50th classic movie. They figured they can't make a profit anymore + 50 was a nice number

So from now on its just Pixar and actual movies

  • @daviddarkmaster Seriously?

Wow, how the mighty got lazy and stupid cough High School Mutilating of the ears , Hanna Monstrocity and the Jonas Bros cough

  • the first time i heard this song i cried.

    it was so moving!

  • If i had her hair, i would use it as a pocket : )

  • God help the Outcast BAH this is hypocritical at best God don't help the outcast they don't need it. Rejoice my brothers and sisters for outcast are better we are stronger we are the greatest of the great it is why we are cast out. The path of an outcast is hard and rigorous but glorious in the end. God don't help the outcast don't bless them we can and will get by on our own.

  • I thought we were all the children of god.

  • I need to watch this movie again. I don't remember this scene at all...

  • I love when she hugs her goat at the end and then Quasi smiles. It makes it so much more emotional :')!

  • i loved esmerelda as a kid and i still do shes strong and willing

  • help me! i'm an outcast, always have been, always will be.

  • God help the outcasts

    They're people too

    God help the outcasts

They're just like me and you...

  • I love this song so much and so does my mom. At first I didn't know about this song, so my mom bought a Disney music book for my french horn. Now it's my favorite song to play and I'm so shocked that so many people don't know about this song.

  • This song OWNS 97% of the "real" songs currently out there.

I love the thriving emotions of the 90s.

  • Love the song.

Busy trying to figure out what is "love I can possess."

    Pets? ...or #A loves #B, #B doesn't, --> #B takes advantage of it?

  • @SmileOdette well, I think that it means that want love from material wealth, there's a lot of stress on the "that I can possess". Instead of love that you, say, share with another person. These parishoners are portrayed as the rich hypocrites above the humble Esmerelda.

  • Hunchback of Notre Dam: The most undercreditd Disney movie, that deserves so much more.

  • I do not envy the people who had to animate the Rose Window at the end, looks way hard.

  • not to be Racist but.... the perfect song for the Jews

  • Greatest dubbing pair in Disney history: Heidi Mollenhauer and Demi Moore. Their voices match and blend seamlessly!

  • Beautiful song!

  • Can we get a law requiring all church services start with this song. I think it would go a long way to getting people in the right frame of mind. Help those who are different and looked down upon. Jesus was a champion of the outcasts. Esmeralda's humility is inspiring. "I shouldn't speak to you." "I ask for nothing." Even if you're not religious or not some variation on the Judeo-Christian tradition, these words of humility and selflessness should be a model for all of society.

  • @Theroha I know good idea I go 2 a United Church of Christ it a very diffent chuch very open and I can see this song fitting us. I going 2 bring it up 2 them sunday also he live in u from lion king 2 fit my chuch and so dose you b n my hart! We go by what Jesus stands for! If u looking for a chuch try a UCC. And bless anyone that a Outcasts for god dose everyday! In the lords eye is like a childs or dogs everyone is the same dosenot metter if you gay or not!

  • @Disney708 I'm doing fine at my Mennonite church, though it can be a bit too fundamentalist for my taste at times. I lol'ed at the "gay or not" bit. It's strange that the church is as strongly against gays as it is considering it's based on the life and teachings of a guy who spent all of his time with 12 other guys. Good luck to you, and God bless.

  • @Theroha

Yes, l LOVE this song & it's SO MOVING!!

It is SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SONG WITH OUTSTANDING LYRICS!!!

  • @Theroha christians are evil. Read the bible, and you'll see what it advocates - it would've agreed with the evil guy in the movie.

  • @BrunhildaSwecker

No group of people is entirely evil. Would you say Germans are evil because of Hitler and his Nazis? Would you say Arabians are evil because of Bin Laden and his terrorists?

I don't know what others get from the Bible and I'm not even going to pretend I've read it, but I think being a Christian means loving your neighbors as you love yourself and treating everyone fairly, because we're all equal in the sight of God.

Any Christian who doesn't, isn't really a Christian.

  • @BrunhildaSwecker

Why do you think the Bible would agree with the priest's actions? Do you have an example? The Bible says "Love your enemies", how could it agree to harm and shun them?

  • @BrunhildaSwecker Ok., the people in the movie are Catholic, but even so would you mind telling me what part of the bible advocates killing deformed people like Frollo tried to do? Or fornicating like he obviously wanted to do with Esmerelda? Or brutally killing someone and claiming you've done no wrong like Frollo did?I've found verses Against those things in there but I've yet to see any that agree with Frollo's actions. I'm not a Catholic but which verses condone that?

  • @hikari4light Frollo is basically your asshole christian nobody likes. He thinks he's better than the rest of the world because he's 'godly'

  • @BrunhildaSwecker No, there is no such thing as a bad or evil christian, either you are or you are not. Those use the title of christian for authority is just fooling the masses and isnt truly a christian

  • @BrunhildaSwecker First let me say that not everything done in the name of Christianity reflects true Christianity. Second, what specific verses or passage do you have in mind?

  • YES!

  • I used to have an Esmeralda dolly when i was little and it gone .

  • omg...this song makes me cry... :'(

  • This movie is a very moving one, since it speaks of values that should be valuable to everybody, and yet they aren't. Wonderful story, inspiring songs and role-model characters. Love it!

  • @simbelmyne23 I know! I wasn't allowed to see it as a child, for... Who knows what reasons? Maturity? I'm just glad I found it now. I mean, this was one movie that wasn't about looking good and getting the girl. It was about an outcast, a contorted young man, and a soldier with a heart. Disney did good with this one. :-)

  • @InlandHurricane

    Absolutely! :)

  • Anyone Who Agrees with Me That We are All Children of God Vote and Scream Halleujah Amen

  • Esmerelda: God, help the outcast

    vs

Frollo: God, help me get some ass.

  • GYPSY FAMILY. I come from a long line and I <3 them and this song is BEAUTIFUL

  • When I was a little kid I wanted to grow up to be Esmeralda. :3

  • this gives me goosebumps :3

  • Think I'm gonna cry!

  • Best Disney movie ever.

  • It's sad that out of all the Disney movies I watched as a kid I remembered this one the least. It's so powerful ♥

  • awww

  • Gosh I just love Esmeralda's look, those big vibrant green eyes were her defining feature and with her being a gypsy and all they really suited her sort of mysterious and at the same time earthy look.

  • This song gives me chill bumps and brings tears to my eyes.

  • @theeGLAMstarr09 i know it's beautiful :')

  • this is the most beautiful and honest disney movie of all time.

  • Isn't she the princess of gypsy's?

  • @osnapitzlala ur mom must be really pretty

  • this song gives me hope <3

  • Esmeralda looks like my mom.

  • Is it bad that I tear up every time I hear this song?

  • @briannebiggie It's never bad to cry during a song like this. (I cry during this one too...)

  • esmeralda reminds me of isabela from dragon age 2...(:

  • Why is Esmeralda not considered a Disney princess? I mean, Mulan isn't LITERALLY a princess but they still sometimes count her. Yet I've NEVER seen them count poor Esmeralda.

  • This song is beautiful.

  • die englische version, ist auch echt gut glungen, obwohl ich mir hinterher die deutsche fassung des liedes anhören muss, weil mein englisch mehr als schlecht ist ;D

  • "I ask for nothing, I can get by, but I know so many less lucky than I."

This song is so damn beautiful.

  • My brother saying I'm like Esmeralda was the best compliment I had ever gotten.

  • This song is absolutely beautiful I love it, it brings me to tears when I hear it it's just so powerful. It's sad to know that nowadays most people wouldn't think like esmeralda, but like the other people praying asking for wealth and fame...

Oh and I am bohemian gypsy, theirs nothing inappropriate about being gypsy, it may have been looked down upon back then, I'm not sure, but their are always people, in every ethnicity, that discredit the others. Those who steal, lie, prostitutes etc... Th

  • @GAgrl4evr y'all seem to actually be a pretty cool people who've been just downright lied about throughout the ages. It's not right for 'normal' people to just spread rumors about a whole race or religion just because they're a teensy bit different.

  • @GAgrl4evr I must say I don't really know what a gypsy is, even after watching this movie I'm not entirely sure.

  • Being inside Notre Dame de Paris makes you want to sing like this. I don't even believe in god, and I was brought to tears when I went there.

  • This song is the only disney song to bring me to tears. It is truly beautiful, and its message still rings true.

  • It´s so sad =( Beautiful song

  • simply beautful song

  • I only went through part of it and started to cry -3 Idk but I'm starting to cry laty I dont kno why

  • Very beautiful song, thanks for posting this :)

  • Selflessness is a rare and precious trait. Everyone should practice it.

  • I never really cared much for The Hunchback as kid because it scared the heebie jeebies outta me, but this song is just pure magic.

  • first time i tried to sing this song, i cryed, i could barly get through the song, I got a certain feeling, a y'know when you find a song that describes your struggles, somethig just opens, and for me it was bitter sweet, Im just wondering if this is anyone elses song, I don't care how you say it, just speak. reply would be the best though

  • @XDhyperstarXD: This song doesn't necessarily describe my life situation, but very few songs speak to me the way this one does. It's like magic, it's just so beautiful. I don't believe in god, but if anything were to encourage me to, it would be songs like this.

  • @XDhyperstarXD i know its one of the songs that describes my struggles bcuz i was an outcast for most of my childhood and all i ever wanted was for my friends to be happy cuz that was just how i was. this song just made me cry the first time i heard it n the Hunchback became my fav Disney movie :')

  • but how sad is this song? :'(

  • That is a true prayer.

  • @pikabununify yes it is... I believe that it wasn't made JUST for the movie.

  • When I first saw this at a very young age...i cried...it's so beautiful

  • This movie is great because it doesn't just label religion itself as something bad, it's all about the way an individual views it and interacts with whatever 'god' they may believe in.

  • i love how she cares more about the less fortunate and homeless and well "outcasts". everyone else is so selfish -.-

  • This is a beautiful song. Esmeralda is the best. :)

  • I love this song! I sang this in freshman choir last year.

    This song is so beautiful~!! :) <3

  • I love the line "I can't help but wonder, were you an outcast too?" because, if you believe the Christian view, God came to earth as a human. Jesus really was an outcast.

  • @LaSenoritaManzana I still think she would be a better than all the other ones combined.

  • It's crazy that even though Esmeralda is a gypsy, she is probably the most appropriate Disney heroine out there. And she is the prettiest by far, counting the princesses!

  • @kittygirlcollins

Well, I really do have two questions on your weird comment.

    1) What's so inappropriate in being a gypsy?

    2) Counting the princesses. Who else would you count for prettiness? The comical sidekicks?

  • @Bulloxe4 There's a lot of different varieties of gypsies... Most is connected with forms of street performance (dancing, carnivals ect) or stuff like petty theft... Gypsies in the old days (if my information is correct) manly lived off stuff like that. I think the description 'inappropriate' is based in history as to them being dressed like... Well street people... Maybe not in a sexual way as we think as inappropriate today, but to the common conception of dressing of that time :)

  • @kittygirlcollins wats a gypsy

  • MAGNIFIQUE

  • God can never be an outcast. God is God.

  • @zazagabora2 No one said he was.

  • @zazagabora2 Jesus was an outcast. This is what the bible says about His ministry on earth:

Isaiah 53: "He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering."

John 1: "He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him"

  • Im pretty mad thats shes not a princess. She should be one

  • @Pickachusocute But she isn't; she's a gypsy. Although, if Mulan is counted, then so should Esmeralda.

  • Everyone should learn a lesson from this song. Don't be greedy, there are people a lot less lucky than you.

  • ooh, i knew the song but i never knew it is from that movie.. hm now i love disney even more :)

  • Such an amazing revolutionary movie taught me so much about life... The guy doesn't always get the girl, abuse of religious power, the selflessness of some people though they have nothing, lust, hatred and that if you look different doesn't mean you are a bad person... Way before it's time I fully admit I never fully understood what this movies message was until I watched it last month I'm 20 BTW

  • i sung this in the shower and cried my eyes out. mostly the chorus made me cry. :<

  • They need to release this on Blu ray. Like, now.

  • Frollo represents the folly of religion while Esmeralda represents the intent.

  • I new the Atheist would start a debate on religion -.- why dont you all stfu and listen to the song its not like arguing does anything!

  • She's so beautiful. It makes me angry that she hasn't been placed along with the other Disney women. All of the virtues given to the other Disney women are lived by Esmeralda. Defend the weak. Protest evil and wrong doings. Love it.

  • This really makes me want to cry u__u

  • @loner1878 but Joseph wasn't the father of Jesus, they thought she committed adultery.

  • @dudechill2

He was kind of the adoptive father. :P

  • @dudechill2

And that's why they moved to where people didn't know that.

  • @loner1878

The Bible clearly says why they went to Bethlehem, why don't you read it and see for yourself? :)

  • @AmeliaJane74

I did. And reading the whole bible is what made me atheist :)

  • @loner1878

Funny, reading the Bible is what made me a Christian. :)
