  • they dont have sms back then

  • I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS. THANKS.

  • @tsancio Sting's last name is Sumner.. No?

  • Hot as man hot AS.

  • @maccaslove You got that right.

  • This might be one of Sting's greatest live vocal performances...

    <3

  • it excitingi want more songs

  • oh sigh and so on. He was a lovely lad in his youth and I was a lusting lady accordingly.

  • Sting, best voice of pop music of in all time with Freddy Mercury

  • Love can mend your life but love can break your heart.

  • wonderful, quelle voix dommage qu avec les années elle ai changée, mais quel groupe incroyable, le groupe de mes 17 ans en 79, et pour toujours,

  • BEAUTY

  • the early sting & the police are the reason why people like that gotye song 'somebody i used to know'

  • @ichliebedasnetz so true

  • This guy is a genius.

  • amazing version of this song! loved it!

anyone else find it funny that he plays bass with a pick, but guitar with his fingers? hmm

  • @overture13 Good observation.

  • @overture13 Sing and playing the bass with his fingers, it's hard !!

  • why does he immitate bob marley?

  • wish he stays like that

  • most BEAUTIFUL rendition I've ever heard.

  • I remember watching this when it first came out to the theatres and thought ... "this is bloody brilliant" it is so well done. I miss my youth.

  • looking through all the covers..but no substitute for this poetic, articulate, majestic original..

  • cant believe justin bieber lady gaga and chris brown get millions of views and this gets 272k whats the world coming too

  • @jackcoward1 Agreed!

  • The Police performance is exciting and powerful. This solo version is perhaps less exciting, because the rhythm isn't as fierce and driving. But I find it more moving. Here we get Sting's ghostly, wailing voice more clearly. And his final "sending out an SOS" trails away hauntingly.

  • artists today need auto tune to sound good, artists from back then were so good they had to convert there voice to 8 bit so people dont get epilepsy

  • The Secret Policeman's Other Ball was a variety benefit show. To quote a comedian from it, Sting's performance was "FOOKIN AMAYZING MAAN!"

  • Didnt care for this performance. the tempo didnt ever pick up and no one else much on the screen =(

  • Awww, my first HUGE crush!!!!!

  • Pure genius...there are no words...

  • awesome performance

  • awesome performance

  • So fucking nice

  • Brilliant performance from a gifted vocalist. Too much delay on the vocal for me, but, still a stellar vocal. Sting should never sing this song and Roxanne ever again and simply show the video of this performance at his concerts and admit that he will never equal or accede this performance. Good job 1981 sting!!!

  • @chimptor50 that's the entertainers hell, singing the same songs twenty years past your prime...

  • a god!

  • iv seen a lot live performances from this song, but this is by far the BEST

  • What makes me want to throw up... there are over 40 million hits on Lady Gaga's generic, tired, recycled crap.... and only 233K hits on pure beauty like this.

  • @DamianEatsNails that's cause there's many more mental degenerates than there are sophisticates

  • @DamianEatsNails Well said, very well said.

  • @DamianEatsNails consider yourself fortunate to enjoy it. Although if you ask Mr Gordon Summers himself, he'll probably have a good thing to say about Lady Gaga.

  • my favorite live performance ever

  • @order57 of course buddy, the best

  • Heavenly. ( :

  • Simply amazing! Best. Live. Acoustic. Song. Ever! Thanks for uploading this.

  • hard to imagine sting started out as a teacher...

wish I would have been in his class!

  • @louzzzie my teacher was a singer and guitar :D the other way around

  • he is so freakin cute

  • this is the version that made me want to learn to play great solo performance but also one the geratest bands ever.

  • Great music.. Divine, cosmic voice

  • Love, love, love.. forever

  • Greatest. Version. Ever.

  • This has always been my favorite version. After 30 years it still holds that stance. Well done Sting- so always do it like this. I actually saw you do a sub-par performance of this, but fuck that, you still did this version, so even though not your best, it was memorable- translation is good. This is my fave Police tune. Well do

  • THIS is the rendition that made me not only fall in love with this song, but with this band.

  • My sister met him in JFK airport a few years back. Said he was the nicest guy. Chatted with her for like 10 minutes at the luggage carousel.

  • :D

  • On perfect form, the way he's playing, the way he's singing, perfection

  • i play the upright bass...it sings and calls....

  • Nice! Solo Sting! Stung baby!

  • 3 people didn't get his message in a bottle

  • Ahh early Sting...that vox and the GI clothes look,he and phil of genesis wore so well. played liberally by MTV in the 80's. this influenced me and others greatly.

  • awesome... thats the word. One of my favourite songs...

  • Secret policeman concert?

  • @order57 You got it!

  • Sunglasses please.....xxx

  • This is the best version of this song. His later versions I've found all wank it up with unnecessary schlock. There is a good lesson in simplicity here. This is pure art.

  • woah he was young

  • 3 people were being raped to this song

  • Great singer, and bass and guitar player! Also, he´s so handsome I cannot stop staring at him, Im like hipnotized ;3

  • I'm so doing this for my solo music GCSE work!

  • lovely voice beste song ever

    the police sont les meilleurs...

    Respect..

    gegards from holland

  • He looks just like a little lost boy on this video, don´t you think so?

  • love this version very much, pure sens of this song, btw Sting said that's his best song; well... he got soo many great songs, but the fact is - this is one of the greatest...like tens of other

  • One guitar, one voice - echoing through the area about an allegory of the solitude we all feel on our own little island called our lives..Sting is a Zen master. By far this was his best version of the song because of his intensity.

  • REALMENTE ESTUPENDO =) feliz de volver a oír esta gran canción

  • Sting definitely got his moneys worth out of that jump suit.

  • Damn i Found this!! I´ve looking for this video of " message in a bottle" for a long time...

Best " Message in a bottle" EVER!

  • That dude, got guitar skills, but he can sing as heaven. Echo rocks.

  • i have this song on my ipod ^^ and remastered...

but does anyone know were which album this falls into?

  • 2 people are on a deserted island

  • john meyer wishes he could do it like this.

  • Sting has got to be one of my biggest musical inspirations, he's the reason why I play bass. :)

  • This is a nice surprise...I love this. Back in the day when he could hit those high notes. Anyone have the version with him playing (upright, electric?) bass and singing this in a slower tempo? VH1 used to air it; they credited it to The Secret Policeman's Other Ball, as well. Pretty as he is, it's hard to imagine they let him play the same song twice, It'd be an excellent companion piece to this. I've looked everywhere I can think of and can't find it.

  • If some of you know, Stewart Copeland was in the band Curved Air way before The Police formed, then he decided to go with a different direction of music.

Listen to the original version of this song w/ bass and drums, and you will see what i am talking about.

Curved Air is a progressive rock band, so the styles are somewhat there.

The Police, i thought was one of the best bands out there in the 80's. and i was born in '89. I discovered this trio later on in my life.

  • i always loved this version. sting was always very original, and influenced by the reggae-new wave bass at the time.

This was the first time i actually saw him play the guitar though, back in 2006-07. VH1 Classic played this one day.

  • OMG I love the part "I Hope That someone will get mine"

  • Massage in a brothel...

  • Sting seems to be a pretty good guitar player. why does he play base?

  • @davec3487 Because he's also a pretty good bass player and bass is a fantastic instrument. ; )

  • Does anyone else find him insanely attractive? <3

  • @kazarox101 Ha! What a silly question!!! :)

  • @ShaBiCaoNiMa aahahaha :) yeah true.

  • @ShaBiCaoNiMa

    melts my heart always. thanx

  • @kazarox101 Absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only trouble is, he always seemed (and sometimes still seems) as if he knew it. A person is more attractive when they seem as if they don't know it.

  • @kazarox101 is the sky blue?

  • @kazarox101 uhh, yeah 30 years ago maybe!

  • @kazarox101 haha, I suppose if y young teenage girl than, yes. I love sting when he is live.

  • @kazarox101 yes me too

  • @kazarox101 Yeah, and I couldn´t help but notice... and I was like "ohmygawd!! he´s so beautiful!!"

  • @kazarox101 Fuck, I'm a straight dude and I find him attractive.

  • Damn those high notes with that intensity:-) We love them very much

  • This was the first version of this song I heard, (also Roxanne from the same show)

I was actually somewhat disappointed when I heard the original recording!

  • QUE ARTISTASO... LOS DE LA ACADEMIA Y ESAS MAMADAS DEVERIAN DE VER QUE PARA SER TALENTOSO SE NACE, NO SE HACE...!!!!

  • Whoa. This is amazing. Sting is an extremely talented man.

  • 80s were the best

  • I don't like what he does nowadays. This was so much better, The Police and some first albums solo. Nothing like the sun is my favourite.

  • He has an incredible voice range and rare ...

  • one person does not like this video song....Andy that is not funny!

  • @rekkof andy prolly did the guitar stuff

  • It would have been interesting to hear Sting perform the song in this key while playing the lute instead of the guitar. Sort of like a medievil version.

  • @wvd1979 He did perform Message In A Bottle with the lute (check out his 'The Journey & The Labyrinth' DVD/CD album), albeit not in the same key. Sting hasn't been able to sing in this key for a long time! Still does well, though, in spite of his years!

  • @ShaBiCaoNiMa Ah excuse me but he looks about 21 odd in this.

  • @grandadpoppyable Yes, despite the fact that he was about 30 at the time of this performance!

  • i love this song...i prefeer this version at quella with the police XDXDXDXDXD

  • I was in the navy when this first came out. I wore out the cassette.. Bob Geldoff and Johnny Fingers doing "I Don't Like Mondays", Sting doing this and "Roxanne" and, believe it or not, Phil Collins kicked ass on piano with "In The Air Tonite" and "The Roof is Leaking". They're all here on YouTube except for the last song. That had to be one hell of a concert...

  • a truly gifted performer.....thank's Sting we love you bra !

  • awesome!!! its that dark in there and the lights being on him too he cant see not one person hes tottaly fixed into the song 100% with a load of passion brill version...

  • I remember taking out the cassette from Secret Policeman's Other Ball from the library years ago. There should be copies of it available out there - though I don't know in which form.

  • noone will ever inspire or touch me more than Sting in this period...

  • Great - in many ways...

  • God

  • AMAZING.

  • not a a bad version, but Copeland's badass drumming in the original is sorely missed

  • "It's never lonely being alone it only pure contemplation on your own" ~indigenousman

  • My favorite song ever is heard here with such depth and clarity at once. Sting's voice is unique: at 2:00 he almost seems to be crying. There is a sort of feminine touch to his singing which is transfixing. The song itself, a passionate plea for the unity of feeling, the loneliness we all share, is a true masterpiece which will always ring true.

  • @xensboy - Aw, this is the lovliest comment I've ever seen on YouTube!

"Message" is also my all-time-favourite song.

  • a real musician.. a master ...... another level..another dimension.......lady gaga ?? n todays crappp

  • I love Sting and The Police very much. Sting is the best creation of God. He´s completely perfect and wonderful. God bless you my dear Sting. You live in my heart. I LOVE YOU.

  • This version is amazing!

  • EU ÇOU ANALFABETICO

  • FANTASTIC!!!!

  • like the part between 0:30 an 0:50 how he sings

  • Superb. What a talent

  • Damn, unbelieavable. Didn't know he was that good on guitar. Damn this guy is superb

  • The real artist

  • this makes me want to listen to synchronicity

  • as awesome as this is, its probably the end of the police unofficially lol

  • My big Idol <3

  • One of the best versions ever.

Loved this since Day One and haven't seen this since I was at school.

    THANK YOU for posting x

  • beautiful perfomance

  • a one of the greatest professional of professionals in the world

  • More loneliness than any man could bear... so touching as he shouts it into the (apparent) darkness, alone

  • what a fab song it reminds my of my earlier years with paul and gabriel avril and dad xx

  • I have loved this version since the day I heard it. His voice is spectacular and that guitar playing is tasty. Obviously one of their best ever songs. I haven't watched it in years. This is a treat. Thank you.

  • I remember buying the album right after release (I still have it). It still blows me away to hear this version!

  • This is beautiful. Listen to a great version of this song here on Youtube. Look for

    PRIMEIRO INSTINTO.

  • 0:33 Everyone can made a mistake... :)

  • what it is the mistake? I live this song ♥

  • @ajvar4e

he didnt make a mistake, I play this on my guitar all the time your supposed to slide down at that spot it makes it look like hes confused because he looks down, but since you slide down a very unusual A chord, you have to look at it or else you'll screw up

    he did it perfectly

  • 00:33 Oops

  • the best in the world..........WOW

  • I like this version best. stripped down to it's essential form. He is so good.

  • spellbinding - amazing - haunting - brillant - pure talent ...

  • @ejanddor No doubt! Sting in his prime had one of the BEST Tenor Rock voices of ALL time. Well done Sting.

  • wow! I love the original, but this accentuates his voice with the lack of drums, etc. Truly an amazing talent, unlike most of todays crap.

  • @bodizone1 Miss the Drums :( but your right great display of Stings ()_& talent!

  • truly amazing!

  • wow id turn gay for that man. xD sting sure is a rock icon, and he has no need of gay costumes.

  • truly amazing

  • I <3 Sting! he is just a great guy...sexy too!!

Sting is a good man and seems like he's never cheated on his missus..I admire that....not like that tosser Ronnie Wood !! Much more talent as well, and Ronnie is like, sooooo ugly!!!

  • i still the like the origanal better

  • ure right: the original is so much better

  • S O S

  • One of the most honest and profound songs ever written.

  • I remember the first time I saw this version... I think it was in the 90´s... got completely hypnotized.

  • A-MA-ZING!! I'm lost for words at the moment, completely blown away!
