It is easy to bash Sky, but just look at the players in ad. They were the star players back then. Not one of them would be a top player now. The sky money made English football important again and brought better players to the league. This isn't communist China.
People forget that Before Sky starting doing the premiership in 1992 football on tv was rubbish. ITV had the rights the 4 seasons before and didnt even show a live game every weekend. I remember the live matches didnt start until November and there coverage was crap. There wasnt any highlight programme on a saturday night like there is now with Match of the day. ITV used to quickly show just the goals from the other games at half time during there sunday live match. Thank god for Sky sports!!
The whole point of the FA giving birth to this monster has been lost in time........The Football League should have never lost the top division. The Football League 1888 still has the most beautiful trophy.
Check out Andy Ritchie's brick of a mobile phone. And Paul Stewart? Wow, hard to believe Liverpool paid big money for him. But then he was capped for England by Graham Taylor so it must have added an extra nought on his price tag.
The sky / Premiership deal struck by the top few club chairman and FA killed club football. I can still remember the launch all about saving the game, bringing it into a modern age. The game now runs at a loss and people are priced out. Very few clubs and people and actually gained anything from this farce. It is a NATIONAL GAME. Sad that I now enjoy local league matches and training more than top flight football
