Joe will always be epic. See 6:46. No but really, G force wasn't horrible in terms of editing and dub for the times. I just wish Sandy Frank et al left in and or licensed the original Gatchaman theme song as the opening for G-force.
@Sielo1ac The Gatchaman theme wouldn't have worked for the approach that Sandy Frank (Battle of the Planets) and Turner/Fred Ladd (G-Force) took towards their respective works. Sandy Frank tried to make BotP otherworldly and spacey in the vein of "Star Wars", hence the Hoyt Curtin theme. By the time "G-Force" was released in 1986, the '70's symphonic Gatchaman score sounded dated in the synth-heavy '80's, and Fred Ladd and co. were gonna remove all of it if not for budget concerns.
@Radiumscape Keyop's "speech impediment" RUINED what was originally a pre-teen brat character and a great foil to the rest of the main cast. One of the worst dubbing decisions of all time. If you wanna see that "Battle Of The Planets" dreck then go search for it in the search bar.
@SuperAdventures The theme music and character voices and names for G-Force: GoS were all absolutely terrible. Battle of the Planets may have suffered from editing problems, but I think it was a lot more entertaining than GoS. I admit that GoS does have better editing; I think if the best of the two were combined it would be phenomenal.
@shrizor Or not bother reading the video descriptions clearly explaining the differences, then whine about how its not the version they remember growing up with on comments, ad nauseum. That, above anything else, is my biggest gripe about these BotP fans.
@SuperAdventures I own copies of Gatchaman, Gatchaman 2, Gatchaman F, Battle of the Planets, Eagle Riders and G-Force and I've gotta be honest... Jinpei/Key-op/Peewee/Jimmy/Mickey is pretty inconsequential.

@markrosario75 Believe me, the guy editing the show's soundtrack wanted to feature more varied music, but there was such a short production schedule that he was pretty much forced to rush through most of the episodes and fill in silent parts with that techno drumbeat!
@Feijoada1 Most of the music you hear in this ep IS the original soundtrack from Gatchaman, except for that techno beat you here occasionally. Up until recently, U.S dubbing companies felt the need to fill out any silent moment in a Japanese show's soundtrack, filling every moment with music to "hold the kiddies attention" or "keep the action going". So they'd either do what they've done here with "G-Force", or replace all the old music with new music.

invincable ruby red beam hmmm you mean a "ruby Laser beam" man there words are off.but was cool. but the little guys name was Key-op not what it is here.. thats just sounded out sorry.
Yup, a scene that (along with almost EVERY scene involving physical contact between G-Force and Galactor's goons) was COMPLETELY cut out of the previous English dub, "Battle Of The Planets", which so many people seem fond of yet was bowdlerized to hell.
Back in the 1980's when many people like myself first saw "Battle Of The Planets," this was all we knew of at the time. There was nothing to suggest an original anime was shread to bits.
oh yeah iv been loving that scene since my third birthday when my dad baught the vids thinking botp. i thank him for being wrong. took him 12 years to relise his mistake. what about the brutal spiked yo yo to the face.
Anyways, Gatchaman full episodes are up on Youtube so check the 1st episode of it and compare it to this scene with Jun saying "I'll go because I'm in charge of "dangerous substances" lol (she did not say that at all in the original)
Added dialogue was common in English dubs back then. "Robotech" also did this a lot. Wouldn't be surprised if they still did with some English anime dubs today, though not to the extent of most '80's/'90's dubs.
Along with very light editing (most scenes involving killing with firearms or violent deaths, violence between team members) on some episodes, every episode of "G-Force" also cut out 1-2 minutes of "fluff" scenes due to time constraints, mostly unimportant dialogue between characters.
No one knows exactly why only 85 episodes were translated for "G-Force". Perhaps it was the number of episodes needed to syndicate the show. Perhaps (possibly) the final story arc in the last 15 episodes of Gatchaman was too dark/violent to edit around. Major characters DIE. BotP didn't adapt those very final episodes either, but BotP's 85 eps were cherry-picked from Gatch Episodes 1-101, that is 85 of those 101 eps were adapted for BotP. "G-Force" straight adapted Gatch Eps 1-80,82-85 and 87.
I know, but what I'm saying is when we were kids, BotP & G-Force was all we knew and we didnt have a choice. Now that since 2005, ADV released fully dubbed and subbed uncut version of Gatchaman we now have a choice. And G-Force came out in 86', By that time, kids were alreadu used to seeingDuke from G.I. Joe, Starscream and Optimus Prime die.
they only translated so many episodes because of the "violence" that was during the time where everybody was blaming bad children behavior on tv rather than their parents or themselves. go figure
I'm pretty sure Battle of the Planets came between Gatchaman and G-Force.
Yes G-Force is toned down for kids, but hey, its what I grew up watching, no internet and anime wasnt as popular then as it is now. So as far as I knew, this was all there was.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt G-Force a little closer to Gatchaman then BotP was?
Gatchaman is the original Japanese version that came out in 1972. BotP was the 1st U.S. dub of the 1st season in1978 with 85 episodes
G-Force didn't come out until late 80's but followed the Gatchaman storyline more faithfully than BotP did. Unfortunately the voice acting was worse and the music score was very repetitive (kept using the same rock beat instead of original Gatchaman background themese) and the opening score was not as good as Hoyt Curtin's original BotP opening.
The worst dub was Saban's Eagle Riders (which was a dub of the two sequels: Gatchaman II & Gatchaman Fighter). It was a total of 65 episodes, splicing 1978's Gatchaman II's 58 episodes & 1979's Gatchaman F's 48 episodes together shown in full in Australia, but only 13 episodes were shown in the U.S. before it was canceled.
Eagle Riders, like all of Saban's shows, are now owned by Disney.
Now you can buy original Gatchaman uncut and subbed but I don't know about it's 2 sequels being subbed.
I grew up watching both too. I liked them back then but after watching the original in its Japanese uncut format with subs that is the best.
Anyways cant wait till Tatsunoko vs Capcom comes to the U.S. for the Nintendo Wii and hopefully they'll add online mode so I can play you online and whoop your ass with Ken or Ippatsuman
Lol,i'll take you down and out. Shame they might only imclude Ken though, I would be happier playing Joe, or as I would say, Dirk Daring :P I'll settle for Casshern
The Tatsunoko franchise (including G-Force and maybe Speed Racer as a US exclusive character) will be making a return appearance in the U.S in Tatsunoko vs Capcom this year because Capcom finally got the rights to release the game in America.
THis is the first Episode of the TV show GATCHAMAN, which primiered of TV in Japan in Sept. 1972, when I was 11. Six year later it made it to America as BATLE OF THE PLANETS, and was a huge hit in America. It is the prototype for all the Japanese team superhero shows. It is very cool, and it is the same anime company that did SPEED RACER, which came to America when I was in the first Grade. TATSUNOKO is the company, the Seahorse company that did the animation and layout.
This is the version that aired on Cartoon Network during the mid-to-late 1990's. It is one of several dubs of the same Japanese anime (Gatchaman), "Battle of the Planets" from 1978 is the first, this one (from 1986) is the second, and ADV's unedited, uncut dub (from 2005) is the third and most accurate one.
"Gatchaman" (also "Battle of the Planets", "G-Force", "Eagle Riders") is japanese anime series since 1972. "Voltron" is Japanese anime series since 1981...
watch "0yulka0" channel...it's the original early 70's version....the US version's in the late 70's and again in 86' was a heavily edited version...fight scenes, language, characters being killed, heavy plot lines were all redone because it was seen as too real...the real story lines are the best to see or read that is...Japanese with subtitles...
dang for an old tv show they have alot of movement imcomparing this to the old scooby dooo(i hate tyhat tv show soooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! much) im still amzed by the movement
Wow, I watched this show after school everyday around 79' & 80'. However, the english voice overs on this episode are different from the ones I remember. Thanks for Posting!
Thank you soooo much for making this available. I used to watch as a kid. I used to imagine the g-force leaping from tree to tree protecting me as a bus carried me to school! I had a very vivid imagination :-) Anyway, thanks for the wonderful flashback. I would totally buy this if it was available on DVD.
This cartoon is truely one of a kind. I used to watch it as a kid all the time. To bad they didn't come up with the toy firgures. The most unique kids cartoon ever! I'm just glad that I got to be a kid when it came out! Thank you for keeping it alive! G Force!

Ok, that looked a bit brutal when those two men fall like 10 stories and then fall out the aircraft, lol.
Prodigious1One 2 years ago
Yup, a scene that (along with almost EVERY scene involving physical contact between G-Force and Galactor's goons) was COMPLETELY cut out of the previous English dub, "Battle Of The Planets", which so many people seem fond of yet was bowdlerized to hell.
SuperAdventures 2 years ago
Back in the 1980's when many people like myself first saw "Battle Of The Planets," this was all we knew of at the time. There was nothing to suggest an original anime was shread to bits.
Afrocanuk 2 years ago
oh yeah iv been loving that scene since my third birthday when my dad baught the vids thinking botp. i thank him for being wrong. took him 12 years to relise his mistake. what about the brutal spiked yo yo to the face.

God, I loves me some Gatchaman.

LOL this fight scene was so awesome. Combined with Sentai cliches, 80s animation, and poor screaming, this feels like home.

Anyways, Gatchaman full episodes are up on Youtube so check the 1st episode of it and compare it to this scene with Jun saying "I'll go because I'm in charge of "dangerous substances" lol (she did not say that at all in the original)
Devilbat 2 years ago
Added dialogue was common in English dubs back then. "Robotech" also did this a lot. Wouldn't be surprised if they still did with some English anime dubs today, though not to the extent of most '80's/'90's dubs.
Along with very light editing (most scenes involving killing with firearms or violent deaths, violence between team members) on some episodes, every episode of "G-Force" also cut out 1-2 minutes of "fluff" scenes due to time constraints, mostly unimportant dialogue between characters.
SuperAdventures 2 years ago
Yeah well the original scene just makes more sense when you look at all three versions.
Plus its 105 episodes vs 85 episodes so you're getting the full story.
Devilbat 2 years ago
No one knows exactly why only 85 episodes were translated for "G-Force". Perhaps it was the number of episodes needed to syndicate the show. Perhaps (possibly) the final story arc in the last 15 episodes of Gatchaman was too dark/violent to edit around. Major characters DIE. BotP didn't adapt those very final episodes either, but BotP's 85 eps were cherry-picked from Gatch Episodes 1-101, that is 85 of those 101 eps were adapted for BotP. "G-Force" straight adapted Gatch Eps 1-80,82-85 and 87.
SuperAdventures 2 years ago
I know, but what I'm saying is when we were kids, BotP & G-Force was all we knew and we didnt have a choice. Now that since 2005, ADV released fully dubbed and subbed uncut version of Gatchaman we now have a choice. And G-Force came out in 86', By that time, kids were alreadu used to seeingDuke from G.I. Joe, Starscream and Optimus Prime die.
Devilbat 2 years ago
they only translated so many episodes because of the "violence" that was during the time where everybody was blaming bad children behavior on tv rather than their parents or themselves. go figure

ace, hooty, dirk? i remember key-op,princess,jason,mark and tiny or was that just the british version?
mcvet89 2 years ago
No that was Battle of the Planets (70's)
This was G-Force (80's)
Then came Eagle Riders (90's)
Gatchaman is the original (1972). Try to look for that one since its not butchered like these
Devilbat 2 years ago
I'm pretty sure Battle of the Planets came between Gatchaman and G-Force.
Yes G-Force is toned down for kids, but hey, its what I grew up watching, no internet and anime wasnt as popular then as it is now. So as far as I knew, this was all there was.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt G-Force a little closer to Gatchaman then BotP was?
patch5129 2 years ago
Gatchaman is the original Japanese version that came out in 1972. BotP was the 1st U.S. dub of the 1st season in1978 with 85 episodes
G-Force didn't come out until late 80's but followed the Gatchaman storyline more faithfully than BotP did. Unfortunately the voice acting was worse and the music score was very repetitive (kept using the same rock beat instead of original Gatchaman background themese) and the opening score was not as good as Hoyt Curtin's original BotP opening.
Devilbat 2 years ago
Devilbat 2 years ago
To each thier own. Like I said, I grew up with G-Force so I have a natural preference to it.
Tried watching BotP, didnt care for it. I'll try Gatchaman again. And yes, I liked the Gatchaman'94 OAV
patch5129 2 years ago
I grew up watching both too. I liked them back then but after watching the original in its Japanese uncut format with subs that is the best.
Anyways cant wait till Tatsunoko vs Capcom comes to the U.S. for the Nintendo Wii and hopefully they'll add online mode so I can play you online and whoop your ass with Ken or Ippatsuman
Devilbat 2 years ago
Lol,i'll take you down and out. Shame they might only imclude Ken though, I would be happier playing Joe, or as I would say, Dirk Daring :P I'll settle for Casshern
patch5129 2 years ago
Jun is in it too dont forget and actually they were going to put Joe and Berg Katz in according to a recent article, but they didnt make it in.
Maybe they'll add more characters though, they havent ruled that out yet.
Devilbat 2 years ago
The Tatsunoko franchise (including G-Force and maybe Speed Racer as a US exclusive character) will be making a return appearance in the U.S in Tatsunoko vs Capcom this year because Capcom finally got the rights to release the game in America.
Karas vs Ryu?
Ken the Eagle vs Ryu?
Yatterman?
Awesome

THis is the first Episode of the TV show GATCHAMAN, which primiered of TV in Japan in Sept. 1972, when I was 11. Six year later it made it to America as BATLE OF THE PLANETS, and was a huge hit in America. It is the prototype for all the Japanese team superhero shows. It is very cool, and it is the same anime company that did SPEED RACER, which came to America when I was in the first Grade. TATSUNOKO is the company, the Seahorse company that did the animation and layout.

I can't tell whether this is the edit version that came out on cartoon network or the japanese version only dubbed.
tman229 2 years ago
This is the version that aired on Cartoon Network during the mid-to-late 1990's. It is one of several dubs of the same Japanese anime (Gatchaman), "Battle of the Planets" from 1978 is the first, this one (from 1986) is the second, and ADV's unedited, uncut dub (from 2005) is the third and most accurate one.

watch "0yulka0" channel...it's the original early 70's version....the US version's in the late 70's and again in 86' was a heavily edited version...fight scenes, language, characters being killed, heavy plot lines were all redone because it was seen as too real...the real story lines are the best to see or read that is...Japanese with subtitles...
