What you see in the video is only a two or three minute snippet of the work. That went on for hours, probably without many words between them. STILL, the fact that he talks to the guy helps him deal with the pain. Plus, it also depends on if the customer initiates the conversation, how much they talk. If the customer doesn't say anything, the artist takes that as the cue to shut up. It's probably agreed beforehand if there should be a dialogue.
