  • its so crazy how different the guitar sounded when lee picked it up, just goes to show its all in the player when it comes to sound.

  • The harsh sound of a lot tele's really grates my ears for some reason. I don't dislike the sound but my ears certainly don't like it.

  • I love that Lee mentions H.I.M. as a band where the musicians were "anti-heroes". I think H.I.M. are great musicians while most people disagree, and Linde is one of the most unique and talented guitarists I've ever heard, he was a great influence for me as a player...

I would think less of the guitar, yes. I don't like buying someone else's guitar. I have my own style, and I'd rather develop it with a generic guitar than follow after someone, even if the specs match what I want more closely.

  • I like the guitar and I would buy it, in spite of being a G. Coxon signature, who is a guitarist I have nothing to do with. (But I do not hate him.) I like that it has the duncan pu, the ash body and the blonde finish. And I also like the humour of the demo guys.

  • Awesome review, awesome guitarists, awesome guitar!! I just love this guitar for the fact that it's got the single coil and the humbucker and at such a great price, let alone the sound and look of it. The fact that's it's the Graham coxon signature for me is a bonus as blur were a huge influence on me growing up so it's a good thing for me and even better as it's just a signature Mark on the back of the head. Can't wait to get one :-)

  • Looking though a wasteland of guitar reviews on YouTube, I'm glad to have stumbled across your channel. I feel like I've learned something about the guitar, and really am impressed by Chappers proficiency in playing so many styles. The signature doesn't sway me either way, but I like the tonal differences between the pickups enough to think it would be worth considering if I was in the market.

  • Sexy axe! I want one of those

  • Uh, let's see...one of the most classic electric guitars of all time, the Gibson Les Paul, is, wait for it...

A signature model! Countless artists have been using Les Paul's signature model for years, and they don't seem to mind. And if you play a Les Paul and say that you don't like this because it's a signature model...well that just doesn't make sense...

  • love the dig at gibson at the end lol

  • Just bought mine on saturday, sounds great and feels great, espically for the price. i definatley recomend this guitar, espically for punk guitarists like moi

  • Fender jag-stangs FTW

  • Since when are fender telecasters made by fender?

  • ... the captain is probably fuckin sick of the riff "majesty"

look at his expression at 2 :43

    :O

  • Fender in early 2000 put out a U.S. telecaster. It had a humbucker in the neck and a single coil in the bridge. I'm not sure what tone pots were used. Also it had a five-way switch. I believe Fender called it a "fat" telecaster. It had a tonally different sound.

  • Sounds great. Those ppl at SD sure know how to make a pickup. The signature is not negative, but not positive either. I tend to think that you always pay a bit extra for a signature model, just for the signature being there, hence less guitar for the money, but I could be wrong about that. What I don't like is that the neck looks a bit thin. I prefer a little fatness in a tele neck. More baseball bat factor, if you catch my drift.

  • Captain, you are my last hope... I'm on the search for a well-priced Crunchlab-7 pickup for my guitar. I searched through your website but didn't find anything... can you make me an offer, including shipping to Hungary?

  • The fact that only says his name on the back is cool. It's a gorgeous guitar that sounds absolutely fantastic. I'd love to get my hands on one of these, especially because I'm a Tele type of guy.

  • Heeeeeeyyyy, but what is that Blackstar head ? I'm pretty sure it's not the HT-100...

  • I am indifferent about the guitar being signature. If it sounds good, it sounds good. If it looks good, it looks good.

  • i love signature guitars and gear.i feel if its "good enough for them its good enough for me".all my current guitars are sig models.grahams guitar isnt really in your face that its a signature.just a vintage blonde tele with a humbucker, plenty of tose 30 years ago

  • I knew it was the Graham Coxon sig, as I seen it in Total Guitar, great sound, great guitar, great looks, if a little signature bother's you, your an idiot

  • For those not liking 'Signature' guitars- does this include Gibson Les Paul? :P

  • @mablungofficial So true dude, the Les Paul is a signature model, and the ML-1 was going to be a Signature.

  • I have always said it doesn't matter IF ITS A GREAT GUITAR, BUT.......It can't say BLUR or GRAHAM COXON on the top of the guitar or down the neck. As long as its Subtle and it's not a rediculous signiture model and its what your looking for then I'm in.....

  • Joe satriani!!!!!!

  • I personally would only buy a signature guitar if it wasn't obvious it was someones signature model. I would buy that Tele (if I actually liked the look of them :P) because it's not too obvious. I just think it feels a bit odd playing someone elses signature guitar on stage, no idea why :P!

  • I only think less of a signature guitar because that usually means a few hundred more for a sticker of some dude's signature on it. Could be worse, Gibson charges almost double for the same thing...

  • Makes no difference to me about the signature model or not.

  • Jazzmasters all the way!

  • 6:33

    Holy crap, Queen tone.

  • 11:41 LOL! legend :P

  • The Signature dosnt make a slight difference, cant say i am a fan of Blur But am a Massive Tele Fan and that Tele sounds sweet so that is all that matters

  • Song at 2:40?

  • I love how lee did a southern accent when trying to speak like a notherner :l

  • On teles I always like the middle position for rythem . The middle position on this tele I would find useable.

  • Lee mentioned the fretboard being oiled. Can I asked with what? I have been turned off by rosewood fret boards. Maybe if I knew what with, I wont be prejudiced to rosewood fingerboards on guitars.

  • i like the guitar because i like teles i looked at it, went "must...buy...this..." i would buy it regardless

  • To me its who the signature human is. I have no issue owning a Joe Satriani signature guitar because he is important to me as a guitarist. Where as the Kurt Cobain signature I didn't look at twice because Kurt is important to me as a person. I don't know why i feel this way

  • Phenomenal tone from the middle setting...just...wow.

  • Nah, stratocasters are much better and more classic!

  • signature?

    no thanks

  • Chappers quote of win " i hated em all as im a fukin metalhead" ftw

  • Comment removed

  • Good question. I have a signature guitar and I don't mind it at all. However, I'm sometimes of the opinion when I see a guitarist with a signature guitar (the B.B. King "Lucille" model, or the Slash Les Paul comes to mind) that I think "they'd better be good -- almost AS good as the original artist" or they look like a kind of poser. So, I imagine others may have the same opinion of me with my signature guitar. I, of course, am better than the original artist :)

  • JOE SATRIANI! <3

  • My favourite telecaster is a Richie Kotzen telecaster. So there you go.

  • like the top comments, nothing fells better to play a guitar that feels yours. i wanted a dean mike amott tyrant, but i wouldnt want to check the headstock and read "mike amott" or see the body and see other band's logo there. it's his image, i want to get my own

  • That a beauty guitar. ButI do really think the whole illegal wood thing Gibson has had to deal with for the last number of years is complete bullshit.

  • Generally I hate teles because they look tacky. But the variation in the pick-ups are rad.

  • For that telecaster, it makes me want the guitar more actually, Love Blur. For a lot of other axes though I agree with the guy who commented before me. Although I do want a Synyster Custom - Already have a JS1000 and MM John Petrucci in Mystic Dream for signature axes, but I understand that most people don't want something that makes it very apparent you're playing someone else's guitar

  • Comment removed

  • SATRIANI on a tele sounded tastey

  • I wouldn't mind buying a signature model, but visually I don't want the guitar to be too obvious regarding it's heritage. Having the artist's name on the back of the head doesn't matter at all. Having a big Opeth-Logo on the front of the body however makes me not buy the Mikael Akerfeldt Signature PRS, although I love Opeth to death. For me the look of an instrument is so essential to the appearance of a player that it would feel weird to wear and "showcase" the symbols of a different artist.

  • @afroloewe dude i have the same "problem" but all you needa do is buy a cheap "B" stock guitar and replace EVERYTHING. its what i do, and it sounds killer and the best is that you get exactly what you want out of it and if it breaks, then you can just rip the parts out and put them in a different guitar.

  • @NeutralSnap I'm not sure if I fully understand what you mean and how it is related to what I wrote :D no offense^^

  • @afroloewe haha well you dont like buying brand names, i.e. guitars havin the name of people on them or bands and stuff like that, so i buy a junky guitar and customize it until its all mine.... somethin along those lines haha

  • @NeutralSnap Oh I do like to buy Guitars by famous brands, as long as they're made how I prefer them. I own a Fender Strat, a Gibson V and would like to have a PRS or Musicman or something like that. But that is because these instruments are relatet to no one else but me.

  • @afroloewe if i could afford them i would too haha but i own an LTD Viper-50 (bought $100 used at guitar center) and ive currently spend another 500 or 600 on it so not only does it sound better than say a 1500 dollar guitar, but it also has the sound i want. Therefore, it makes the guitar more or less "mine."

  • @NeutralSnap So you've essentially rolled that turd in glitter?

  • @AlexSlams well its like turning metal to gold, i think rolling a turd in glitter would be more like..... rolling a turd in glitter lol

  • @afroloewe you couldn't have worded that any better

  • 11:42 LOL subtle chappers... xD

  • i would buy it but i would scratch the signature off!

  • I've got John 5 Tele that I bought with absolutely no clue who John 5 was, it was just a great sounding and cool looking guitar. I only found out when I got home and googled J5 Tele what it was. I have quite a few top shelf guitars and this MIM Signature Tele is one of my favourites for playability and tone. I don't care one bit that John 5 is associated with it, and with the styling of this guitar it's hard to miss.

  • I don't know really what to say about signature guitars. If I was getting an Ibanez JEM7V or some form of a sleek, modern 7 stringed guitar, I could get a signature guitar, but I would hesitate to get just about any other kind. I guess Im afraid of being seen as a poser, or something like that.

  • Good vid. I think it does make a big difference that it is a sig model. It really shouldn't, but I think I'd actively look for the same attributes on another guitar. Silly really, a very nice guitar.

  • I probably wouldn't have watched this if you'd had mentioned the artist, so that was clever. It makes no difference. I dig it because of the seymour duncan, color, and I like this type of Tele with the single and the 'bucker, and it doesn't seem expensive for an artist model. It seems more like you're paying for the upgrades, rather than just the artists name. I like the Jimmie Vaughan and Kenny Wayne Shepherd strats for the same reason -- nice upgrades, affordable price.

  • Great review guys like how use test different pickup select and gain and Robs playing awesome as always...haha

  • I like the whole neck focus... First thing I do when I play a guitar I think is intresting is feel the neck. That why I love the road worn series the sanded neck is amazing I recommend it! BTW DO ME A GEAR TOUR DO ME A GEAR TOUR!!!

  • I dunno. I think it does affect my decision (much as I'd like it not to). I have a signature guitar. But my guitar like this guitar is exactly how *I* would want a guitar of that type anyway.

People I like sway me towards a type of guitar (like most people I guess) and signatures of people I don't like sway me away. But not by much. I'd get this tele if I didn't have my own custom built one.

  • The signature series doesn't generally influence my buying. I always buy based on 1. how it plays 2. how it sounds 3. does it fit "me", meaning can I see myself using the guitar in a studio or gig. It sucks that this is only available in the UK, I'd like to take this one for a test drive.

  • I think it only makes sense that guitar players in successful bands help to design guitars.

  • Nice axe regardless of it's signature status. Explains the odd pickup config

  • @SixStringHarmonies

The pickup config is based on how it was when Graham Coxon bought it. the original; guitar this is based on is an old 1968 telecaster that someone had put a Gibson humbucker (one of the old ones with the Gibson logos stamped on the front of it) in. Obviously they couldn't use a gibson pickup to make this so it's a Duncan '59 instead. Coxon himself tends to favour the bridge pickup on a tele, but likes the creamy tones a neck humbucker gives.

  • does andertons carry G&L?

  • Usually I wouldn't write that, because it's not point of gear review, but you guys really presented the guitar well, from musical point of view. Some really nice playing and licks, that showed the guitar capabilities. There are too many reviewers where after the review you feel that you know as much as you knew before. Some boring licks that can be played well on a homemade banjo.

  • I never understood why Andertons does not have their own channel

  • @skycaptain141 they do.

  • @skycaptain141 They do, but chappers puts out the videos before they do. I'm subscribed to both.

  • @skycaptain141 it does

  • Really sweet tone

  • As if I wasn't GASing for a Tele enough already...

  • Lol! Signature or not, that guitar is well appointed and not overdone or overpriced.

    Shame about the colors.

  • Really weird sound ! But interesting !

  • its quite common to see a guitar with a humbucker it the bridge and single coil in the neck, but it always just seems odd when i see these telecasters with it the other way around having the single coil in the bridge and humbucker in the neck

  • Is Captain Lee getting good or what!

  • "And I hate them all because I'm a metal head", Best call ever!

  • Yay! Lee got to play in this video! \m/,

  • Me, I'd do my best to look past the signature bit and look at the guitar as just a guitar. That should be the important bit.

Well, I'd try ... All objectivity aside I probably wouldn't buy it if I disliked the artist or his/her music.

  • Interesting question you posed, guys. I'd say it doesn't make me think any less of the guitar, but it would influence my purchasing decision. Like a lot of people, I feel that a signature line of guitars is made to sound like the artist they're named after, and I also feel that it sort of colors your own career as a musician. I'd like to become known for playing a guitar that I like, not that someone else plays and I've copied.

  • Chappers is So Distracting :) Lol

  • when obviously a sig guitar, i would never buy, however, my only guitar is a musicman jp7, which is only a sig cuz it has a signature on it.

so basicly, if it only has a signature on it, then i am indifferent

  • STUPIDLY THIN FOR THE WIN :D

  • I would never buy any signature gear, no matter how great it is or how much I'd loved the player. I don't want things that are made to someone else's spec, designed for a certain player or that help me sound exactly like the artist, I don't think there's anything unique or creative about that.

  • Well... For me as for "conservative" guitarist, this Tele is not really a proper Tele and it sounds not really good enough. To my mind real Tele has to have on board maple neck with maple fretboard, vintage voiced both single coils pickups, "ashtray" style bridge and natural/yello/blond finish. That's it.

But as this is signature model, then it is ok. Never liked "Blur" guitar sound and now I understood why. Anyway good guitar, but not enough "Tele" in it!

    Victor.

  • signature guitars - no thanks, signature amp - maybe, signature pedals - yes

  • i dont care whos name is on it cause once i own it it is MY guitar that i can play (for the most part) MY music on.

  • I really don't care if it's a signature. It just a guitar. It doesn't automatically play like coxon, an epic guitar can be called a little bo peep for all I care as long as it plays well and sounds ace! Great vid guys!

  • Personally, I prefer a guitar that isn't a signature. I prefer to make my own stamp on my music and make it my own. I just feel that, no matter how small the name is, it wouldn't be MY guitar. Shame, its fucking stunning.

  • I'm abit of a metalhead

    Like oasis

    Blur were better

    Yes

    Cuz I fucking love telecasters:)

  • chappers' slides are the most epic ones i've ever heard besides the ones from john frusciante o.O 3:30

  • tele is greek for "from distance". think of tele-vision or tele-phone. so what exactly is tele-caster?

  • I just bought a Leslie West, DEAN Soltero. Great guitarist, great guitar.

Signature models don't bother me in the slightest, if it's a good guitar, it's a good guitar. If it's turd, well..........

  • lol.. Oasis are shit

  • both pickups sounds real good I like it

  • Chappers man, what is that funky groove you play at 2:42? It's amazing.

  • More playing from Lee! He's like the everyman player.

  • I own dime signature models but the thing that even i don't like is that his name is printed big and bold on top, which is a pain for me but that's how he rolled. He put his name on all the gear. That being said if it was just on the back of the head stock no problem, but the thing with dimebags deans are that if you have a normal ML most of the time someone say hey cool nice dimebag guitar which is wrong. anyway .....hakuna matata

  • F tuners are so nice!!!

  • Yay for LEGAL woodz! :D not like that other big brand uh? But back on topic, you asked an opinion about the "signature" thing so here are my 2cents: I usually don't care about signatures, I go for the sound AND the look of a guitar so the signature doesn't influence me at all - if I like it, I buy it. Btw I noticed that pickups with very different outputs/brightness on the same guitar usually blend with ease (think gibson bfg or ibanez roadstar 2), so I humbly disagree with the Captain.

  • love the end comment Rob.

as it happens, i just brought a LP Trad and it's sooo bad ass the FBI want to arrest the fingerboard ???

  • The signature status doesn't put me off or turn me on particularly. I thought it was a cool Tele and a good price! I want one!

  • How much is this baby?

  • A signature model used to kind of annoy me if I cared nothing for the artist. However, If a guitar sounds great, like this one, the name has nothing to do with me purCHASING it.

  • "MIM..."

  • The bridge pick up retains the telecaster identity and sound into quite heavy overdrive, which is awesome. I think you could do quite authentic bluesy Albert Collins like playing on it as well as country and rock. The neck pick up get too bassy and undefined on the low strings but combines wonderfully with the bridge pick up. So bridge and middle settings are great but neck position Im not so sure about. And Graham Coxon is cool. Nice of Fender to recognise his worthiness :-)

  • imo if the signature guitar's nice to play then i'd wouldn't care if someone wrote "Joe jonas" on the headstock even though i hate that band but at the end of the day if a guitar plays comfortably and you enjoy playing it get it if your buying for namesake play it first because you'll probably think twice about spending your money on a guitar that has dime written on it

  • @megadeth520 *the dime thing's just an example i do know some of the dean dime models play nice

  • I can see how this guitar inspires you both and just let's you both shine :) nice!

  • Comment removed

  • signature guitars don't bother me except for the usual price hike. with this one though, i was put off as soon as i saw that telecaster body shape =P

  • I'm more interested in what the single coil sounds like in conjuction with the humbucker and the balance between the two than who endorses it..

  • Chappers & Lee .. Is that like Peters & Lee?

  • Does no-one at Andertons play bass!? Dear god I want to see the modern player jazz basses :(

  • It doesn't bother me that it is Graham's signature guitar. I just don't buy anyone's signature guitars. So, I guess it has a negative effect.

  • Not a fan of signature guitars, Chappers. I wouldn't feel comfortable going on stage with someone else's model, no matter who it is or how great it is - though the Jem seems acceptable for some reason. And the price is always bumped by having someone's name on the headstock.

  • Good review. I would avoid a signature model for the same reasons metioned by the many, that is to say I fear paying the premium involved. That said this model is a tasty little number. It's a pity the guitar-buying budget is at 0p... Still once I get my Line 6 DT-25 (ahem ahem) I guess I'll need a new guitar to go with it.

  • I like this guitar! :)

  • Comment removed

  • Like the guitar but the name has put me right off

  • Wow the second time Chaps plays it with all the drive sounds like Akira Takasaki (Loudness).

  • I'm not put off by graham, I'm put off by paying for his name. Other than that it's a great guitar

  • u weernt drunk doing this were you? :P "its loaded with, its vintage.."

  • lol nice kick to the balls on Gibson there hehe

  • *the guitar

  • Love Blur, but if the price of the is affected merely because of the name added to the headstock, no thanks.

  • lol The last 30 seconds earned you the "Like" from me:D I like Gibson OK, but yeah, Fender die-hard over here - poke fun at Gibson all you want;)

Tho, our jackass govt should review our Constitution before pillaging builders who predate certain laws by 50 yrs, but whatever:S

Oh, and talking this side of the pond, our biggest guitar anti-hero, Kurt Cobain, has had signature models on and off for a while now. I think Fender's just smart enough to play the icon card regardless of who's the co-icon.

  • the only issue with signature guitars is the fact that you really do have to pay more for the name. I'd still probably buy this guitar in a heart beat

  • Thing is I knew it was the graham coxon tele from the beginning so .... It's a great guitar :)

  • if it wasn't a signature model, i would be more inclined to buy it. But without knowing it its a sure thing buy. I don't really know why either.

  • My judgement is not really differed on signature models, if I had to have a signature model I really wouldn't mind, :3

  • I do not like paying a higher price for a guitar just because it has someones name on it. Still, I would not rule out a guitar just because it is a signature model.

  • I like the guitar. If it came in black or sunburst, I'd probably buy one.

  • I really like teles with humbuckers.

Can you do also a tele with a p90/94??

    That would be great.

And what us the running horse nemed st 8:20 ??? :-))

    Thx

  • I'm indiferent!!!!

  • In all honestly, I've never been partial to signature models. I've always been one for buying standard models, and creating your own model guitar off of that. That being said, I am really impressed with that guitar, and since it's not overly obtrusive that it is, in fact, a signature guitar, I could see myself purchasing it.

  • Coxon is a great guitarist, and his solo albums are much more interesting than his work with Blur. I wouldn't have thought of Coxon as someone for whom a signature model would be created.

  • It wouldn't bother me really, unless it has his name written all over it, that bothers me. I'm not of fan of signature models that have the artist's name, signature, or picture all over the guitar.

  • Loving the sounds on this Tele'

however knowing it was a signature did make me feel different about it.

Shame, but I know it sounds great now, so I still want it.

  • 2:28 classic chappers riff

  • tie your mother down tie your mother down! the cap'n knows the score!

  • Anything from jazz and blues to hard rock, shred and thrash, the tele can do it all.

  • to be honest i dont want a guitar with someones signature on it. love the sound though so im split

  • umm majesty riff ftw

  • what?! 550 pounds! thats amazing! love the middle position. blur songs are awesome and dun bother me either way whether its a sig series or not

  • More Satch More Satch More Satch!

  • Chappers love Teles... :D

  • £550 is pennies for a guitar of that quality, I would deffo buy one if I wasn't on the dole. I've got a Roland ready Mex Strat and the quality and value is spot on.

  • This TELE being a signature doesn't bother me, or say the Eric Johnson strat. Very classy guitars you wouldn't notice it's a sig. Now something like a Zakk Wylde guitar, and I like Zakk very much, is too closely associated with that artist for me to want to play in public. You look like a clone wannabe fan boy. (I still want a Zakk Camo to play though,in my room:) Or an EVH Frankenstein.

  • treewoods... makes me laugh every time! >.<

  • Could you do the fender modern player Guitars?

  • Blur V's Oasis?

    I prefered Pulp :)

But I was far too busy enjoying The Levellers!!

    LEV

    ELL

    ERS

    FTW!

  • Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing!!!

  • @shreddy412 @ 7:45 cool \m/

  • that was all kinds of nice. Very tasty playing Sir Rob of Chapman.

  • if someone can put their name behind something, that further shows the quality of guitar. My favorite guitar I own is an albert lee signature model.

  • 7:45

    Aaaaaw, yeah!

  • love this !

  • Never heard of Graham coxon lol, but when you told me that it was a sig, I felt myself go "oh god" but then thought "well I'm not arsed, im not going to buy it so I'm not bothered" :)
