  • when it gets to 2:30 my heart starts to ache from the beauty of it

  • Whenever I play my left hand part at around 1:00 it always covers up my right hand which i try to bring out which just creates a huge mess of sound... Any tips?

  • You played it beautifully!

  • you need more passion~ you played it to... straight ahead, rushed to much and especially for this music, you need a emotion with dynamic (not piano til forte but diffrent tempo)

  • :O im like...so speechless

  • can some one put this on synthesia please?? as a visual learner its a bit tricky to learn

  • Anyone who doesn't like the tempo can suck my left toe.

  • Beautiful.... you played it soooo well..!! you make every one jealous! thank you for spreading your talent!!!!!!!!1

  • My bad, this actually sounds much better than the original, thanks verdegrand

  • I think your interpretation is just dandy. :) This is how I always picture the song should be played. Your other version is wonderful, too, but I think this is my favorite. Just gorgeous the way it builds.

  • As much as I admire your impeccable technique, I must admit the tempo really kills the song for me. There are just key notes in the song that I think should be savored and with your tempo it seems they are skipped over :(. But again, who am I to judge when I can't even play this myself. My opinion might also stem from the fact that I heard the official recording first. Nonetheless you are simply amazing and I love your videos. Keep up the good work!

  • Kairi and Sora would've been able to hear this through the chain of memories =)

  • The tempo doesnt match. Original is better.

  • @magik603 NOWAY

  • how long did it take you to learn this?

  • HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU!? PLEASE TELL fascinating job btw

  • I like the original piano collections better i think but I can see what youre saying about it flow. its just opinion really, if you like it better faster then you shouldnt have it any other way

  • Dude you are absolutely amazing!!!

  • how hard would you say this song is???

  • Once Again you killed the Show (both the original version and your own are awsome ) perfect job , and PLZ will you put a Link for THIS (its do awsome )

  • Listening to this again... your technique is so incredible and flawless.

And yes, faster is a bit better for this song. :)

  • @GermanSeabass thanks a lot. just for the record, let me say that there are actually quite a few mistakes and flaws in this recording. but i appreciate your remark nevertheless, thank you. and i'm happy you enjoy the tempo, i think that was one of the most criticised things about this video.

  • Amazing once again Verd. I should just change my playlist of "best vids" to "Music from Verdegrand". Also curiosity strikes me...where did you come up with the handle Verdegrand?

  • @weltal2 thank you. and among others, it's a reference to the plush in my avatar :)

  • please record and post this in downloadable somewhere or anywhere, this is so beautiful, and about the only music piece id actually pay to have

  • the 5 people who disliked this have never heard great music before o.o

  • Duuuuuude..... TEACH ME!!!!!!!

  • when i see you play this i want to learn this but than i see the Sheets and think: " I CAN'T DO THAT IT'S TO FAST !" -.- :D

  • Comment removed

  • arpeggio 0.40 min <3<3<3<3<3<3<3

  • Where did you get the sheets?

  • Musique pour la tristesse de Xion - means "music for the sadness of xion"

  • i love your piano <3 and your skills , epic.

  • Truly beautiful! a master piece! :D

  • Your playing is just perfect! Congrats!

  • Your hands are like water in the piano, I like your playing a lot :) If you would like to do a tutorial of this, please tell me! jajaja

  • dislike 4 people are all nobody

  • i just burst into tears :'(

  • is it me or do i hear parts of kairi's theme and dearly beloved?

  • @yellowpaperlover becase xion is made from sora's memories of kairi and she is dearly beloved. so yes, her final battle theme is a mix of kairi's and dearly beloved along with the right hand notes containing her own theme

  • Very nice. You have amazing technique, but a bit more rubato would be nice.

  • Gorgeous!!

    It's beautiful!

    Well done! =)

  • aw great job loved it

  • this is great for the speed you played it at :)

  • This.. is... gorgeous. owo

    /in awe

  • Im self taught, ive been playing for almost 5 years, and can play pretty much all of the mainstream popular final fantasy music, i can play almost all of kyle landrys improvs and interpretations and such, but this piece is giving me some trouble. Is there a specific type of music you would recommend for me to learn in order to help me play this, and if i was to start taking professional piano lessons, about how much would a legitimate instructor probably charge? incredible performance by the way

  • @Tropictyce

Well the ones with experience and have work in that field tend to charge around a dollar a minute. And people will usually want to take hour long lessons every week. (Some others charge more, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they teach "better") I know from personal experience. And don't look at my channel since practically all of those videos I did when I had only been playing for like 2 or 3 years and didn't know what I was doing. >_>

  • @Tropictyce

I'm pretty sure it matters where you're located too, because those prices are generally the same across the board here in Nor Cal. Not sure everywhere else though.... O_o

  • absolutely marvelous. I want to play this just like you, and I will when I get out of my cast.

  • I read the description before watching the video, which made me pretty skeptical about how a faster interpretation would sound. I have to say, however, that I really enjoy your interpretation. The only version I had heard before this was the CD version, so listening to your playing made the piece seem fresh and new again.

  • It's all about how you relate to the music though. There ain't no right or wrong about it. Looking forward to your next interpretation very much ^^!!!

  • Verdegrand, your piano technique is extremely good. This type of interpretation reminds me of techno or Baroquian compositions. Since comps were made on the harpsichord the composers didn't get to use the tools of musical expression available on a piano. Just like biological tones related to emotions in humans, any instrument which can mimic is able to relate more to the human experience. Just like a violin singing, yah?? IMHO, w/o this element a lot is missing.

  • thats a first the top two comments are the by the uploader... and not about the number of dislikes

  • i try and play this song, but the timing is really hard in both right and left hand :(

by the way, YOU PLAY LIKE A GOD

  • I dont care what every one says, you are fantasticly amazing!! You playlike a god gongrats!!!!

  • can you slow down the tempo? :D Besides that you play really well.

  • its pretty darn difficult >.> but if you practise atleast half an hour a day it becomes very easy

  • How long did it take to you learn???

How long do you play piano , i saw de score of the music and i thought OMG how its possible to play...

  • this is beautiful.

  • 2010 was the year of Xion, lol.

  • Gorgeous touch <3

  • Personally I prefer the original much more. That is to say nothing about your technique and personal feelings about the song!! The way that I hear a majority of piano solos (the voicing) would be equating them with human voices / emotions. What are they saying?? To me, this interpretation is very flat. There is no breathing, no swells, no ups and downs, no rest and excitement. It doesn't pull/push your awareness like voices do. No peaks/valleys. It lost a lot of its soul. IMHO

  • @TsurugiOni Oh, harsh. I don't think this version is flat at all. This interpretation is different to the one on the CD (is that what you meant by 'the original'?), which is played with quite a lot more force. This version has a beautiful sort of subdued sadness, rather than the more 'raging sad' rendition on the CD, and honestly I think this much better depicts Xion's story, and is closer to the feeling that the in-game version left me with.

  • @mlruubz hey thanks, i think you sum up a lot of what i was thinking when i played it. i think that, listening to this again almost one year after having recorded it, i can understand where he is coming from. this might be played a bit too fast and while i was thinking that the original cd recording had too much breathing, this almost had none at all during some passages. i think the 2nd recording i made on the grand might be a bit more balanced. i appreciate your comment though, thank you :)

  • @Verdegrand i like both versions =] they're both great plays, in different ways. the grand piano one seems more... liszty, while this one's slightly more chopin-y. a bit of a weak analogy, but... aagh, you get what i mean haha. anyhow, you've convinced me to try to squeeze this in as an extra list for my next exam haha ^^

  • too rushed thumps down lol

  • a little bit rushed, but it suits the battle version a little better than the one in Piano Collections, which is slower. Nearly every song cover I see makes me regret quitting piano in third grade. This one especially.

  • I'm learning this from sheet music right now, which is difficult because I can barely read sheet music, I tend to play by ear. But this is realllly awesome. I didn't know there were other pianists on youtube that I liked besides Kyle Landry. However, I think you just found a new subscriber (:

  • do you have any tips on playing this song? i'm trying to learn it, but i'm stuck with the sextuplets on the first page :'(

  • Geez for some reason i love the left hand at 0:54 to 0:58

its so beautiful. so is the whole song, but i keep going back to that part and loving it especially.

  • Honestly I much prefer this to the original piece. The emotion just flows better and it feels a bit more like Yoko's original piece in-game, I think this pace catches the power of the original composition more. Although the original piano version's breathing evokes the feeling of sobbing and crying.

  • @ixfalia You need to get laid.

  • @TheBennjy18 with this song you can haha the only obstacle is that you have to learn it

  • @skkiittllezz More like Kenny G. lol

  • Now that I know the official recording almost by heart, I've got to say, I don't like this version too much. It feels too rushed, IMO. But I'm looking at your fingers and this definitely shows off your talent. The precision in which you hit the notes is clear and you move your hand much faster than I can, lol. You make this piece look much easier than it is.

  • this is the best version of this song ive heard. i think its so much better played this way - faster and more natural - i can't enjoy the original version after hearing this anymore

  • amaizing :D

  • You played so beautifully!

May I know if there's music sheets for this?

Or did they release the Piano Collection for this?

i bought the first one. I'm wondering if there's the second one.

  • 3 dislikes... I just don't understand people

  • good, but too fast o.O

  • I've been struggling with this song for over a month now. Just seeing you play it gives me hope that it can be done! You're awesome and your performance was fantastic!

  • It's still not possible for me to not make mistakes T-T......

  • This video makes me so sad that I stopped playing the piano, because I could've been like this. I'll definitely be getting back into some classes. You've inspired me again uploader, and thank you.

  • very good!!

    by xion

  • Um dia faço isso!!!

  • i cant divide the sextuplets and sixteenth notes........its gonna take me forever to figure out

  • damn this song!! im gonna have to wait another half year for me to play it like you do>.>

  • Like seriously, this is like even bettter than mozart man. Every time i watch this, you blow my mind away..EVERY TIME!

  • i fell in love

  • Beautiful. Period.

  • seeing the fingers dancing on the keys makes me tears...stab me with a keyblade please!

  • OtakuKingdom's recommendation on Valentina Lisitsa's account brought me looking and I chose this one to listen to; your interpretation is classical and can understand why he would suggest it to a classical artist; will listen to more of your art and bookmark you site;

  • You have inspired me soo much . I wish I could play like this, I've honestly been watching this for quite some time now, and I am considering learning it, but I'm not sure if I can in the amount of time space i have to do this for a major concert D: I've only been playing for three years and Bleh.. Any tips? Id appreciate it (:

  • Incredible! Wonderful! A complex piece, but masterfully resolved! I really liked your interpretation, previously heard the version "faster", and yet, amazingly pleased me. Normally I tend to dislike free interpretations, but I admit that yours was without a doubt the exception to the rule. A round of applause from a server.

    A.R.Blackmagic

  • realy i feel so good nice song!

    congratulations for u talent

  • I praise your consistency... but at the same time I dislike your lack of use of rubato (in the more casual sense) in briefly slowing down the tempo for dramatic emphasis...

  • This song is amazing. You're probably the best pianist I've seen on youtube (I don't specifically trawl for pianists playing VG music, but still). It's beautiful (I think better than the grand piano version), and I think breathes more.

When I tried playing from the sheets for the first time, the sixtuplets nearly made me give up. : S *sigh*

    It gives me hope.

  • I've been re watching this for so many times for the past few days.

You are simply amazing, love all your other covers but this one is my favourite!

  • This was wonderful! Truly beautifully played. Excellent song choice too :D

  • I love it!!!!

    very well played!!!!!!

  • Hey Verdegrand. First of all, your performance literally blew my mind. I have two questions, though. First, how long have you been playing piano? Second, I just started to learn how to play the piano, and I'm wondering how long would it take to learn a piece like this? Thanks

  • @shrey1720 Hello, thanks for your remarks. As for the needed time, it's hard to say because it differs from person to person. For myself, I would say I might have been doing this after about 10 years, but there are people who learn significantly faster. If you are really serious about this, then getting a GOOD teacher (e.g. a passioante concert pianist who doesn't care about his career) will do more than anything else will, and it might cut the required time in half, if not even more. Good Luck!

  • Your technique is really good!

  • This song sounds like the song played during the main menu of Kingdom Hearts.

    Very beautiful. :)

  • This makes me want to learn piano. More than I already wanted to before haha.

  • So beautiful ~

  • "Who will I have ice cream with?"

  • simply amazing... i envy you.

  • Currently finishing Sinister Sundown, thanks for the tips :), going to play it for my exam =)

Good thing my teacher likes these kind of songs, otherwise I'm stuck with Chopin lol

  • @Spiritsoulxx No problem, and hey nice about playing Sinister Sundown at an exam, good luck ;) Make a video of it sometime, if you ever feel like it. You are lucky to have such a teacher :)

  • Thanks for you answer Verde you are so gentle and helpul ^^

I wanted to "spam" your video to Valentina Lisitsa (probably the best pianist in the world, I think) but this Youtube don't let me post links in the comments so I said: Valentina please can you hear "Musique pour la Tristesse de Xion" I'd like to have an opinion from you - If she like this, It would be an epic win xD

  • @OtakuKingdom Hah, I actually doubt that Valentina Lisitsa would like this music or that she would even bother to watch a video like this. She plays serious "global" high end stuff, and there are no game music arrangements which would make her sweat and which she couldn't eat for breakfast. But it would indeed be nice if she would ever play game or soundtrack arrangements. It would be great if Benyamin Nuss' CD would make other pro pianists take this music seriously.

  • @Verdegrand Well i hear lately that alot more people in the pro pianist world are starting to accept anime and game music

  • @narutosblood Yeah, that's a good thing. More and more musicians dare to express it, but in general it's still a pretty niche thing associated with wrong things and it's still looked down upon by most musicians for some reason. There is indeed some movement, and I'm afraid it'll be a long time until it'll get proper and widespread acceptance.

  • @Verdegrand i know this is a little late but thank you for responding in a nice manner instead a short 2 worded respone :D

  • @narutosblood No problem <-- there you have you short 2 worded response =)

  • p.s.

Verde you know that your nick in italian sounds like: BigGreen? xD

  • @OtakuKingdom Hah yeah, that was actually one of the reasons I chose the name ;)

  • @Tropictyce: My teacher and generally a lot of pianist who play classical music have so much prejudices that they don't consider good the modern music even if it is very beautiful and very good written. If the composer isn't Bach, Mozart or Bethooven for them is all bad music, I hate this kind of musicians. Last Monday I had shown the sheet for MPLTDX to my teacher and she said:- Shimomura again? This piece is very difficult, you have to study Chopin and don't lost your time on this! - -.-''

  • @OtakuKingdom It's really sad to hear this, because game music is one sure way to get students to actually want to practice an instrument - what other music can do that as easily? I make similar experiences as you describe them, people would not take it seriously, roll their eyes etc., but truth is, you can learn musicality with such pieces just as you can by playing classical composers. If your teacher prevents you from playing what you want to play,I would consider looking for a different one.

  • Then, if you can, could you tell me how get your position of hand? My hand is very tense when I play even if I do not want, it arched down and curling the little finger.

I know that you won't undertand all, google translate it's not a good help for me D:

thanks for your time from the city of vivid Ezio Auditore xD (Florence). I wait for more piano collections, you are my god :D

  • @OtakuKingdom The thing about my hand posture is that I can't remember how I learned it. It was my teacher who would often show me finger movements by doing them on my arm so I would 'feel' them on my skin, and that way I could imitate it more easily. I think that you could try to practice a piece very slowly (so that one note lasts more than 2 seconds) and then concentrate on creating the sound with your fingers only, without using too much of your arm or wrist. PS: Florence is beautiful :)

  • first of all, sorry for my English, I'm your Italian fan.

you're one of my favorite pianists, you play very gracefully and you have a beautiful posture of the hand, so relaxed and pleasant to see that you make it sound simple even if is very difficult. This is one of my favorite songs but my teacher only considers classical music and doesn't let me play this =( In my opinion this piece is better than lot of Bach's and Bethoveen's pieces but she has too much prejudices...

  • @OtakuKingdom thats unfortunate that your teacher does not consider this. have you showed her this? possibly she might change her mind if she hears how good it is, despit it not being considered "classical". and also, your comment was very understandable, dont worry about verde not being able to understand, it was good xD

  • @person9812 Hm, the most important thing is that I started with the last page first and learned towards the beginning. That way, the second, more challenging half would be more familiar as soon as I was finished learning. Then of course, practicing very slowly is something that will get you good results whatever piece you learn. Finally, writing out fingerings for difficult passages, because I found for myself that learning such passages via the fingerings makes for good memorization. Greetings

  • This Was Beautiful! I just subscribed. Im gonna have a mini marathon listening to everything. I hope to get a portion of your talent someday!

  • @xiaofps Hey man, thank you for your kind comments, they are highly appreciated. If you get yourself a good teacher and keep practicing, there is no reason why you shouldn't become the musician you want to be :)

  • i think i cried a little bit T ^ T

  • I know whatcha mean on the "hiccups" of the version in the Piano Collections. Stop....and go. Stop...and go... but I still like it though and this as well. I guess you can say they each have their own unique feeling to it.

  • Your the best ive heard play this, great job.

  • congratulation ! Thumbs up ! I really appreciate how you play this piece so

beautiful ! And you have such a very very nice piano.I feel like it's a grand piano. love it soooo much.

Can I request Por Una Cabeza or He's a pirate. my all time favorite. You are my Hero.

  • Wow. I'm learning some of the Kingdom Hearts piano music now. This one is one of my favorites. You are amazing at piano. How long did it take you to learn that?

  • @Kitsunetta Hello, thank you, this piece took me about three weeks of several hours a day. If you mean the piano playing itself, I've been playing for about 25 years. Greetings

  • I'd never heard this song before your two interpretations and this one does feel better. When I think of "breathing" on the piano it doesn't have to mean rubato - a subtle curve in the dynamics can work on its own.

Lovely rich sound in those chords which helps too!

  • Yes, the CD recording of this song is a little bit slower, but it's only to add emphasis and emotion to the song. In this video, you played a little too quickly, which took away the emotion from the song. Don't get me wrong; you played excellent. The only thing you need to work on is putting some emotion and feeling into this song.

Keep up the good work. =)

  • Holy......... Crap..... *walks away from piano forever*

  • @Cleanuponaisle11 Hah, no reason to walk away from the piano - walk TO it and spend some time with it, it will be eternally grateful to you, and if you spend enough time with it, it will let you play this piece :)

  • Hey, first of all great job. I listen to this song every day now. It's so amazing. I just got the music for it, and im wondering what is a good way to practice the part in the beginning with the sextuplets vs the sixteenth notes? It's so hard! You obviously did something right in your practicing to make it sound this good. Keep up the great work man! Please respond. Thanks!

  • @Hawkpeltwarrior Hello, thank you. As for the practicing of that part, I think the most important thing is to find fingerings you feel comfortable with, then arranging the notes into "grips" and then practice it slowly. It's hard to explain with words, so here is a quick video with my own fingerings:

    /watch?v=YZ143_PyhVY

  • Comment removed

  • I might do a new recording this some time soon on a grand - way slower and with so much breathing you will hyperventilate lol

  • Omg! Your performance is flawless! Just awesome. It sounds just like the original. Perfect sound also ;) You are the man THUMPS UP!

  • Musique pour la tristesse de Xion...

Never have I seen a title so fitting. It basically means "Music for the sadness of Xion"

    Verde, you're my hero!

  • Great job, I like your version of this song, though the original recording is still better in my opinion, mostly because I like the slow tempo over the fast one you played. Nevertheless great job, very beautiful playing.

I started playing piano and hearing this song has inspired me to try harder now. Though, seeing the sheet music to this song scares the hell out of me, so I'll stick with what I know and hopefully, sooner or later, I'll play this song with my owns hands than with my Ipod.

  • u play gracefully, really mean it

  • You play this extremely well. I feel like I could float away on the notes...

  • I remember reaching the end of 358/2 days and having to fight Xion with this theme playing in the background of the game, then watching her die in Roxas' arms while the same theme played again but in a different variation, and I just sat there and cried. It was a long while ago, but listening to this now just brought me back to that moment again. All the emotions during those cutscenes are now all rushing back and it's simply overwhelming. Ur interpretation does wonders. Wonders and magic.

  • This is good, but, Why dou you play so quickly? I'm disappointed.

  • right before the fast part, there are really LOW 32nd note octaves that appear to be notated to be played with the right hand. Is there any advantage to use the right hand as opposed to the left hand? I notice you used your left hand.

  • @Me2Myself3AndI Hello, using the right hand along with the left hand allows for the double run to be played significantly faster and more precisely, but it takes away from raw power and loudness (octaves being played by one hand just feel different), and it would add a jump in the right hand which felt somehow unnatural to me.

  • Hello H. I think this is the second time I comment to this video, but I´d like to say that I really like your version of this piece. I agree with you saying that the original record is full of ´´breathing´´ and breaks, which makes it a bit boring to hear. However, I must say your recording is way too fast and with not enough ´´slowing down´´ parts.

What I mean is that you should keep those breaks (not all of them, the more important only) and make them shorter. That way may be better.

  • @mandrato678 Hello mandrato, thank you, and I can understand where you are coming from. It may indeed be too fast overall. I guess I just wanted the second half to be an uncontrollable, infuriating, devastating rage which is even more devastating because the first half was so beautiful, and I just wanted to let it "explode", so to speak.

  • @Verdegrand I like how you put your own perspective into it

  • This is one of my favorite from you so far.

  • I think I just died a little inside. This is so awesome, so well played. I'm kind of speechless. I also like how you sped it up a little. I like the original a lot, too, but this just has something. Just, wow. I wish I could play as good as you XD

  • Dude this was AWESOME!!! I can't tell ya how much this was good. U make it look SOOOOO easy. I loves it, all the way

  • Despite the difference from the original, I quite like this performance. Piano collections aren't written on a stone tablet, one can still modify these already brilliant pieces and add their own touch. I liked the end too, it was like your hovering hand said " I want to finish this sequence.........but I must not"

  • YOU'RE AMAZING. Just as fantastic and goose-bump inducing as the original!!!

  • Awesome performance man!! *Thumbs up*

    I definitely need this book, I'm dying to play the Monstruo and Hollow Bastion themes ;_;

  • oh dear. this is both beautiful and inspirational. i'm def going to try it out myself :)

  • Whoa! Your piano skills are amazing! I tried to learn this one, but it's really hard to play. I liked the 'breathing' in the original, but I also like it the way you play it. It sounds a lot more intensive this way.

  • Whenever I get stuck on this song, I just watch this video and it gets me pumped to try and learn more.

  • @ChocoboEmperor

Literally, it translates to "Music for the Sadness of Xion."

  • this mite be a really dumb question but i really want to learn how to play this song (have the sheet music haha x//D) but how did you practice this monstrous? Like did u play hands separate or just played to whole thing slowly until u got the feeling all they keys and started playing on time afterwards?

Awesome playing btw, ur truly have some splendid talent :D

  • Wow, That was really good! After I bought the book myself I was wondering when someone would post the first video. When I first got this book about 2 months ago I went to this song first and FAILED. The I just decided to learn night of fate cause its a bit easier. Do you think that you would be able to learn night of fate and post a video? It would be nice to see someone with skills play it. This video makes me want to try to learn it again. Keep the goodness coming!

  • @skumskilla zorsy has a very good vid on it, have you seen it?

  • @p0llux

I agree with you all the way! for me the orginal is my favorite because of the the breathing... it's what gives the music life and emotion like a person would. but i'm really happy Verdegrand that you put your own interpretation in this or any other of the pieces that you are playing. This is a good example of opinions with interpretation. in my opinion that is...

  • Excellent performance, this is better than what i can ever do. However, you're absolutely right. I don't like your interpretation of it. This constant 'breathing' was what drawn me to the track in the first place. It's what makes it emotional and human. Without it, it's just too mechanical and ends up sounding like a robot is performing. A slower tempo can enhance an emotional melodic theme of a track and i think it's especially true in this track.
