What? That is not at all what happened. That tigress at the Bangkok zoo is in an inter-species rearing program ( a rather controversial one) where they take her litters and have them be raised by a sow and then take piglets have her raise them. She has been doing it since she was 2. I believe she is 9 now. There was no 'depression ' or other such nonsense, just experimentation on the part of a misguided zoo.

It was a different group of animals. It happened during a documentary on a pride of lions. A very young lioness had lost a cub and found a baby (gazelle? I can't remember) whose parent had been killed and some mother instinct must have clicked inside her. The lioness tried to look after the gazelle but as she wasn't producing milk and because she was protecting the baby constantly from the other lions they both started to slowly starve to death.

I don't remember the gazelle lasting 3 months ( though perhaps the lioness was producing milk but not the right type) but they were both getting worse and worse until the lioness needed to go out to be able to eat. A male lion that had been sniffing around took the opportunity and killed the gazelle. A lions face lacks the expression of a human face but I swear I saw misery etched upon her face but at least the gazelles death saved her from starving.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this story is a hoax. The tiger, living at a zoo in Thailand, never lost her cubs, but rather the zoo often mixes species in enclosures for entertainment. In addition, they make animals perform in circus-style acts and elephants, crocodiles, tigers, pigs, and other animals are kept in conditions without the animals welfare in mind.
