I spent $1600 on a laptop four years ago and it's still on par with today's Macbook Pro at the same price range. It also came with a full service warranty.
You're paying for the brand, not for the computer, when you buy a Mac. You can easily find the same quality and performance elsewhere for less.
If macs were shit, they would not be the biggest company in the world. And the one that grosses more than anyone else in their sector. So to all of you haters, take your tails stuck it between your legs and run along.
@TheBestofChawchi They are shit, any economist would tell you their product is identical to a pc, except for the fact its been advertised as a "glamour" product and that Apple can charge anything because the consumer (you) are stupid enough to pay big money when you can pay equivalent and get a super PC, because the Mac is "sexy" i must buy it, dumbass, because you BELIEVE its a superior product when it isnt. An i5 2.4 ghz is more expensive than a PC i7, stop throwing your money away.
sure theres less shit to deal with on a mac, but you pay a LOT more for a mac than a pc + av software (which you can get for free) + maintenance software (again can be free) and tech support (AGAIN... it is occasionally free), but even if you pay for all the extra fix it up stuff for your windows pc, that doesnt add up to the amount of extra money you'd spend on a mac,
@DaBurntToaster if you poor, dont even go to apple's web site, it will never be worth the money, if you have the money and you like macs more, have at it
Windows might need more attention (referring to the cost of ownership part) but what wasnt mentioned was the actual cost of the machines. Buying an apple is alot like paying more for something just because of a brand, on a sheer power to cost ratio, Macs are considerably more expensive than other PCs, but without much more (technologically wise) to show for it
I have always used Windows for my entire life. I haven't ever even tried Mac OS for a few seconds, so I have no clue how it works. I don't really care, now that I think about it. Windows has all I want.
ive had macs in my house for almost ten years, have never had one crash on my or ever get a virus, nor have i ever had to call tech support, just sayin
@CodeusaGames Nothing's wrong with it them; I love Photoshop. But Macs are geared more towards designers, at least in my experience (I work in my college's IT department)
@PhoenixLance13 I've used Photoshop on OSX, I've used Photoshop on Windows, personally it's always run slower on OSX, but I mean what did I expect paying 1.2 grand for 4 gigs of ram and a duo core CPU. I like it on my pc for the fact the plugins are more widely supported and it just runs smoother.
@PhoenixLance13 My 10+ years in Visual Information/Strategic Communications say you're horribly, horribly wrong. The Adobe Master Suite actually runs smoother and faster (i.e.: better) on a PC than it does on a Mac.....but thanks for your input, no matter how invalid it may be.
You realize photoshop is for windows, and originally for windows. Also there high end software for Windows, and better. You can also get as good as hardware Apple has and better. Apple has less security, just not aimed to be hacked. Apple? Overpriced hardware, with limited software that can exist on Windows and probably does, and runs better. If you're smart enough to use a Windows PC, then it's for you. If you're an idiot, Apple all the way. Just please don't try to say what you use it better.
@MadHatter34784 Mine is fine but sometimes when the battery dies, instead of hibernating it just turns completely off and what ever I was doing is closed.
@HeathLedgersChemist He clearly doesn't know that Windows has MORE artist , and video software than the Mac. He also doesn't seem to know Photoshop has on Windows starting as far back as November 1992, and I believe it was Windows 3.
This video is total crap. If you are using a computer as a tool then you use your requirements to determine what to buy, and everything else being equal, you'll spend a lot more, for a lot less, with a Mac. If you are using your computer as a toy, then there is only one choice: PC. There are practically no games for Mac, and even if there were, you probably didnt buy an exorbitantly priced Mac, you won't have enough processing power to play recent games anyway.
i have a pc, i'm a little bit of an expert, but wow people still get viruses? i download everything through torrents and i haven't gotten a single virus in like 5 years
Yes as a Certified technician I'd have to say that classifying all Macs as high end where as with PCs you have the low end choice is just plain wrong. Many Mac components are quite dated and for sure not priced appropriately. Just because they look like shiny toys does not mean they are indeed shiny new toys.
this video clearly biased towards macs.. any mention of the price of a 17" macbook pro? haha of course not! that is the main reasonpc is so popular.. not to mention how shitty the OS layout is, the lack of custimability, the fact when they crash it takes 3x longer to diagnose and fix (yes i can fix computers unlike who this video was aimed for).. anyways PC vs MAC.. PC.... PC vs Linux... Linux for sure
used an XP. never had a problem. switched to vista. had PROBLEMS. and windows 7 was okay. for gaming windows is better, macs are amazing for video/media editing and creation, linuxes are good for administration and other miscellaneous things.
I used to have Windows XP YEARS ago... then got a Mac. Loved it. About 5 months ago we got a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 and a bunch of stuff that was supposed to make it run REEEAAALLLYYY fast! ...It was unbelievably slow and broke in 4 months. Never going back to Windows.
This is simple, if you're a dummy who LIKES spending more money than you really need to, buy a Mac. I'm not just making fun of Apple/Macs/Apple-fanboys, I have reasons. Like mentioned in the video, you will ALWAYS be shelling out top dollar for a Mac (unless you're getting a used one, which is HIGHLY not recommended). And that's for low end products, you can expect A LOT MORE for mid to high end devices. Windows and Linux are simply the smarter choices.
@iAm5061756c Sure, if you consider massively overpricing standard hardware "prevailing in every other aspect". Price for price, PC hardware is superior to Mac's. And then you have the software. Although you have some very high quality programs (and shit ones) to begin with, if you want something else, good luck.
A Linux OS jizzes on everything Microsoft or Apple makes. If you have the know-how, build your own computer using custom parts (it's cheaper and better quality) and download Gentoo OS.
I do a lot of music work, and I find that PC's work best. They have the best selection of software now, at least for what I do. I'm not opposed to owning a Mac, though my bank account certainly is.
PC's can game and are cheaper. Macs cost 3x more than an equivalent spec PC counterpart. Just the facts. Macs do have a nice aluminum finish and sleek design which imho is what most people buy it for.
I find it funny how people are all like 'Macs never get viruses.' macs don't get viruses because all of the people who do advanced stuff that would have the risk of receiving a virus use a PC.
If your one of thoses people who only know how to turn on your computer or laptop and go to facebook Mac is recommended for you because if you get a PC your probally going to break it within a few days. If your more computer smart then PC is the way to go because Macs are overpriced and don't have compatibility with anything but Mac.
The way I see it is this, if you plan on doing nothing but work or web browsing then go with a Mac. If you are wanting to play the latest video games then go PC cause Mac gaming is mediocre at best compared to PC. Just my opinion though.
I bought a PC for school. I barely used it, but after 6 months, the battery won't charge. So now I have to always be near an outlet, which sucks. Plus I have to send it in to get repaired for a couple of weeks, and that means I can't work on projects. Thanks HP.
On the flip side, I've used my MacBook Pro heavily every day for well over a year and its only crashed once.
Open it up. They're the same thing. MAC is prettier, but more expensive. You're not getting what you pay for in any case. One isn't better than the other. It's what you already know how to use that you should spend the money on.
@randomspammer96 I'm sorry but what he's saying in 2:18 is a complete nonsence, you can get all the anti-virus and anti-malware stuff for free just like I (and most of users) did. And outside tech support with windows 7 in not needed at all (if you're not a complete retard, but again if you are MAC won't help you either).
It's on the contrary, your MAC programs will cost you more, beacause there are more free programs for PC than for MAC.
You kind of missed the most important aspect - money. You can get PC with the same performance as MAC for half the price... at least in eastern Europe. From this view MAC just plain sucks.
The only time I called tech support for Microsoft was to re-activate my windows after a re-installation of windows. (Was required when I pulled and switched my motherboard). All automated, done in 2 minutes: good to go.
Talked to one of my buddies whos got a mac book pro and he told me he was calling Mac support atleast twice a week because loads of things he needed didn't work properly.
The biggest pro of windows is that by far most people use it. But its also its con.
The cost of running my PC is absolutely zero cause I know how to fix about every type of issue, and if things get to bad then I can simply reinstall windows. I still love both mac and pc :D
The cost of running my baby (Windows PC) 'aka cost of ownership' even alittle bit higher then macs, but even with that the macs cost far more then my built windows PC.
Errr, Photoshop is for PC too. In fact, graphics used to be more of a Mac thing, but I think that trend has actually switched. And I've never had to call tech support for any of my PCs... I've had to call my brother a few times, but often more from laziness than from inability to fix a problem.
u must read this.once u have started there is no turning back.a little
10 year old girl was raped and murdered in 1945.her body was not found until 1947.then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this message.the dead girl appeard in his room haunting him and killed him.if you do not copy and paste this onto 10 videos in 30 minutes the dead girl will appear in your room tonight and haunt you and kill you.well better start to copy and paste
@Crisshomes1 I have made a hackintosh before, and I can tell you, it's not an easy install. And every bug fix or change to the os requires you to wipe and start over. That and editing KEXT files constantly and modifying permissions and plist files, I can tell you that it's not for your average user who just wants to get stuff done. It's more of a "look at me, I am able to sort of run osx on my pc" type of thing.
Macs are better for casual users that may own media based businesses and don't care to understand the complexity of computing/programming/etc, but just want to upload their Youtube video to Facebook so they can Twitter about it. PC is better for power users that may own non-media based businesses and need technical/logical complicated Powerpoint presentations for their new program they wrote.
Macs are pretty cool, but I HATE going into the Apple store. I feel like I'm in a can of sardines. Being packaged by a group of business-casual hipster tech gurus.
It's not expensive because of it's quality......it's Apple.
You're buying an attitude. If I had spend double the price of what a product is worth, I'd be trying to convince myself and everybody else that it was worth it too.
PC: good for gamers. if you like to tinker a bit with the machine. software may require some work for them to work, but basically all software do if you know what you're doing.
MAC: good for photo editing and stuff like that. Softwares normally work directly, but if they dont, you gonna have one hell of time to get it working.
oh, and ive never called PC tech support. (never called Mac tech support either, but i dont own one, just use one from time to time.)
@EliteGhost001 Every Mac these days is a PC with an additional piece of hardware storing a license key. This means you can run Windows or Linux or BSD or whatever on a Mac, but you can't run Mac OS Whatevers on a PC, or an emulator, or virtualize it, or use it in any way that hasn't been deemed kosher by Apple.
I laughed at the Marines bit. I'm part nerd and going to be a Marine/Navy Corpsman (Undecided) I love Windows and its ability to be customizable in ever way. Hardware and software. I do love Apple, though. They make amazing products.
My family has used Windows since my dad got his first computer in 1995. I grew up with Windows computers and I have been around them since the day I was born. I'm automatically a Windows guy and I can't change. I've tried to switch to Linux but Windows just feels like home for me.
@Muhahahahaha49 I'm referring to your latter statement, I'm quite aware of the fact that Photoshop is available for Windows; almost every public computer at my university has it installed. Opening the application on my Mac, Activity Monitor (equivalent to Task Manager) says its running in 64bit, so there is some confirmation for you :)
@iAm5061756c It's an open discussion on anything about which computer someone would rather use. My family had a Mac in the past and it didn't work out so well, so I showed my view in a joke. Seroious, but it is still not like I am taking this as serious as life or death. By the way, I won't continue to argue with a child such as yourself if you can't put a thought together without a derogatory term. I don't need waste my time on people like you. Goodbye and good luck in your schooling.
I see you have a video on Linux, my personal preference. I like Ubuntu Karmic Koala or Lucid Lynx. (Kubuntu or Xubuntu of those versions are fine, too.) I use Windows on my desktop because it came with Windows 7 They put some stupid software on it that doesn't let me write a Linux CD. I could partition it again now that I have a Linux CD, but it's not worth it at the moment. It did something to Kubuntu when i installed it. Sneaky windows. Macs ALWAYS crash or freeze when I use them.
In this video he acts like Photoshop is only Mac , but this is NOT true . Photoshop is also made for Windows .
Next he says "PC's" need anti-virus software, and this is also NOT true . Linux Mint is a FREE OS and doesn't need any anti-virus , and you can still have Windows installed. Plus Virtual sandboxing is free .
Plus Best Buy sales Mac's so you don't need to go to a Mac store .
I dunno what you need to do to call teech support, in my whole life not once i called tech support, i reformatted my pc cleaned viruses torrented windows broke my pc and even managed to work with my old slow pc with a half broken mother bored quite well, tech support is for peple who cannot take 5 minutes of their life and read, and all the shit i did i fixed and learnned how to do myself, so when it comes to tech support i never called it once.
Steam is helping Apple get many more games, but Windows will still own the Gaming Market. "Who wants to play Black Ops on my new mac- what do you mean there isnt a version of it for a mac?"
Product Selection - PC has this won hands down. PC has the guaranteed product like Mac does, but also the extra stuff that might not work with your machine. There is plenty of guaranteed for certain product products so this is a PC regardless of what he said. Mac software can all be used on PC so this is a moot point and goes to PC for higher diversity.
Cost of Ownership - This just isn't true for PC anymore. 8 years ago yes, but currently no.
I've never once called PC tech support--a lot of the problems I encounter are simple and can be found on the Internet. I don't have antivirus software because I don't go to shady sites or download weird files (I get all my porn from trusted porn sites).
Macs sure can get viruses and fatal errors. The only difference is that they don't show an obvious blue screen of death, only a colorful rotating wheel.
P.S. You don't need Windows on a PC, you can still put one of the hundreds of Linuxes. Also, the Mac OS can generally be installed on a normal PC. Finally, a gaming mac.
My two windows computers have had far less problems than my brother's macbook (now replaced with my dad's macbook when he got a new computer).
His harddrive had to be replaced twice. My mother's iMac had one weird problem with its harddrive. My windows, aside from one problem that needed the backup discs to fix, haven't really had any major problems.
And yet you made the error of claiming Photoshop in favor of the Mac. Photoshop and the Creative Suite developed by Adobe is available for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Solaris.
To sum up the whole video: People who need to call tech support buy mac's, while the rest that does not need to and can sort out the problems on their own (because they know what they are doing) buy PC's.
Linux and Mac are very similar and are superior to Windows in every way (except gaming). The difference though is that Mac is totalitarian and costs $10 terabillion more. I'm a PC and I use GNU/Linux.
cost of ownership: he mentions software to buy for a pc which can be replaced by nearly as good freeware, but doesn't mention that macs are ridiculously overpriced? fuck this video
With macs, they're easier to operate, and over all, less hassle. With PC, as long as you actually know how to use it, you'll be just fine, and without any real hassle. While at this point, allowing you to do much more.
can we please make one thing super clear.... close to the end... that part about "whats more intuitive to you." Will you please re dit this and make a huge deal about it. I run on pc. never once had a major problem untill i basically ignored internet safety 101, since hen no problems... Aside from the problems i always run into with the "streamlined user interface" of macs.
Macs DO crash.... But having used (and still using) both windows 7 and mac osx I must say that imho mac takes the cake in everyday chores. Itunes, mail, browsing, user friendliness, calender, etc. However (!!!), as I need to use excel quite alot I still find myself booting to windows 7 for MS Office and gaming. So...eventually it boils down to what u want. If your willing to pay for an easy experience that works, go for the mac. It will take some learning to become "fluent" with it though.
@Sakkura1 simply because I've been doing all my work school, etc work with windows office so far. And I just don't want to start learning my way around another program albeit similar. I know what I'm doing with MS Office (excel, visual basic, etc) and I don't want to go through the frustration of searching hours for a single button etc. That's why =).
"Macs never crash" apple is telling some lies there... i'm a mac user and i love my mac but really... it has and does and probably will continue to crash occasionally...
@Jetbrowse Well its the main board in your computer that has all other parts connected into it! like a video card and a processor. When you remove the big attached parts like, video card, Ethernet card (if you have one), power cords, etc- then you can unscrew the small computer screws that hold the board to the back plate of your computer! then you...

sonsofloki40k 2 months ago
The way I see it is this, if you plan on doing nothing but work or web browsing then go with a Mac. If you are wanting to play the latest video games then go PC cause Mac gaming is mediocre at best compared to PC. Just my opinion though.
Darthdb625 3 months ago
I bought a PC for school. I barely used it, but after 6 months, the battery won't charge. So now I have to always be near an outlet, which sucks. Plus I have to send it in to get repaired for a couple of weeks, and that means I can't work on projects. Thanks HP.
On the flip side, I've used my MacBook Pro heavily every day for well over a year and its only crashed once.
blueblob4 3 months ago 2
XKCD: You do everything in a browser nowadays anyway, so they're the same anyway.
Anastius 3 months ago 2
Open it up. They're the same thing. MAC is prettier, but more expensive. You're not getting what you pay for in any case. One isn't better than the other. It's what you already know how to use that you should spend the money on.
EricaLynnzie 3 months ago
@randomspammer96 I'm sorry but what he's saying in 2:18 is a complete nonsence, you can get all the anti-virus and anti-malware stuff for free just like I (and most of users) did. And outside tech support with windows 7 in not needed at all (if you're not a complete retard, but again if you are MAC won't help you either).
It's on the contrary, your MAC programs will cost you more, beacause there are more free programs for PC than for MAC.
davidwerl 3 months ago
You kind of missed the most important aspect - money. You can get PC with the same performance as MAC for half the price... at least in eastern Europe. From this view MAC just plain sucks.

Implying photoshop hasn't always worked on PC.
However I do agree that people should make a decision based on what they prefer to use, not based on what fanboys say.

My brother's old macbook had to have it's hard drive replaced twice. None of my PCs have ever failed quite that badly.
RatsRule 4 months ago
The cost of running my PC is absolutely zero cause I know how to fix about every type of issue, and if things get to bad then I can simply reinstall windows. I still love both mac and pc :D
TheTechBite 4 months ago
The cost of running my baby (Windows PC) 'aka cost of ownership' even alittle bit higher then macs, but even with that the macs cost far more then my built windows PC.
Kerns0Phoegon 4 months ago
Errr, Photoshop is for PC too. In fact, graphics used to be more of a Mac thing, but I think that trend has actually switched. And I've never had to call tech support for any of my PCs... I've had to call my brother a few times, but often more from laziness than from inability to fix a problem.

I upgraded my mac mini. Not really user friendly.
Big differences between Macs and PCs:
OSX: 1 way to do something, it just works.
Windows: Many many ways to do what you want, some work better but you find what works for you.
OSX: Mac only
Windows: Mac or PC
Mac: Good hardware, not much variety
PC: Anything you want to buy, good/bad, many vendors, many different choices.
frosted1030 4 months ago
Forgot to add,Pc can run Mac's OS.
Crisshomes1 4 months ago
@Crisshomes1 No, a pc can not run OSX legally or easily. It requires allot of work and you can not update the os without reinstalling.
frosted1030 4 months ago
Legally not but I can run, that I am certain of it.
Crisshomes1 4 months ago
@Crisshomes1 I have made a hackintosh before, and I can tell you, it's not an easy install. And every bug fix or change to the os requires you to wipe and start over. That and editing KEXT files constantly and modifying permissions and plist files, I can tell you that it's not for your average user who just wants to get stuff done. It's more of a "look at me, I am able to sort of run osx on my pc" type of thing.
frosted1030 4 months ago
Ahh the fact that the user is noob its a different thing.
As my point says,Pc can run Mac's Os,I wan't saying can an average user install Leopard on PC.

You're buying an attitude. If I had spend double the price of what a product is worth, I'd be trying to convince myself and everybody else that it was worth it too.
NVaizard 5 months ago 2
for anyone who wonders:
PC: good for gamers. if you like to tinker a bit with the machine. software may require some work for them to work, but basically all software do if you know what you're doing.
MAC: good for photo editing and stuff like that. Softwares normally work directly, but if they dont, you gonna have one hell of time to get it working.
oh, and ive never called PC tech support. (never called Mac tech support either, but i dont own one, just use one from time to time.)

So, wat is it about MAC's that doesn't make it a PC? (=Personal Computer)
EliteGhost001 5 months ago
@EliteGhost001 Every Mac these days is a PC with an additional piece of hardware storing a license key. This means you can run Windows or Linux or BSD or whatever on a Mac, but you can't run Mac OS Whatevers on a PC, or an emulator, or virtualize it, or use it in any way that hasn't been deemed kosher by Apple.

@Dspalding69 Oh, yes. I'm supposed to know it was a joke when it is generally a debate on what others would prefer to use vs another. Moron.
iAm5061756c 2 months ago
@iAm5061756c It's an open discussion on anything about which computer someone would rather use. My family had a Mac in the past and it didn't work out so well, so I showed my view in a joke.

Steam is helping Apple get many more games, but Windows will still own the Gaming Market. "Who wants to play Black Ops on my new mac- what do you mean there isnt a version of it for a mac?"
SDTroopa 6 months ago
Product Selection - PC has this won hands down. PC has the guaranteed product like Mac does, but also the extra stuff that might not work with your machine. There is plenty of guaranteed for certain product products so this is a PC regardless of what he said. Mac software can all be used on PC so this is a moot point and goes to PC for higher diversity.
Cost of Ownership - This just isn't true for PC anymore. 8 years ago yes, but currently no.
thor123422 6 months ago

Macs sure can get viruses and fatal errors. The only difference is that they don't show an obvious blue screen of death, only a colorful rotating wheel.
P.S. You don't need Windows on a PC, you can still put one of the hundreds of Linuxes. Also, the Mac OS can generally be installed on a normal PC. Finally, a gaming mac.
