pretty sure the original video is making fun of guys in the first place. saying that it is okay to say those things. but you're "all deep and shit," so you probably don't understand the joke.
@css1103 He needs to get a life? He made two under three-minute videos... I would hardly call that a life-consuming hobby. Also, what life would you suggest he get? Yours? He's the one who made a video, and you're the one commenting on it, so who really needs to get a life here?
I'm not going to lie. As a woman, I did laugh out loud when I first saw "Sh*t Guys Don't Say". But after listening to you, I realize that you're right.
It's only funny because we expect men NOT to say these things, but we shouldn't find it funny at all because men SHOULD be saying and doing these things. Women have already played both roles, why can't men? Men should be able to do simple acts like these and everyone already them should see it as normal behavior.
Some people are smart enough to realize guys actually do say the things that the video says they don't say. People would comment: "I say that stuff all the time" because they don't get the joke. The video is making fun of gender stereotypes, not actual men. We're all familiar with these stereotypes because they're just common things people say their boyfriends don't do. It doesn't automatically mean that all guys do this. We know that in general guys aren't "assholes".
@allicahshay Exactly! For example, I'm doing a similar video. In my video one of the things I say is that I don't like beer, I'd rather drink a "girly drink". The funny thing is, this is true. But considering we judge people by stereotypes, you wouldn't expect a young straight male to say this would you?
I think the stereotypical image of masculinity, even though it exists, is not actually believed by most men. If he walked around acting like the stereotype of a male who's a jerk (shown in the video)...it will be hard for him to find a good girlfriend to stay with him. And since having a girlfriend is more masculine and more important than what society says, men don't take that image seriously.
@futuretalkvideos no I was on YouTube for the purpose of entertainment, not to be lectured by some snarky literalist who takes himself to seriously, and without the Internet would otherwise be a lonely 30 year old loser. So sorry I took the time to see what you had to say only to find out that your making a point most people don't care about
@futuretalkvideos I see zero "so true" comments on any of the top three videos titled "shit guys say." I also don't see any on "Problems with shit guys don't say", either just saying. You literally said that ---- -half----- the stuff is offensive. I don't agree with some stuff they say but I make a YouTube channel to tell everyone how the shit _____ say videos are offensive or wrong. Get a hobbie
@futuretalkvideos I see you picked up a thesaurus. Thinking of this video as a joke does not mean that this video rightly dipicts a man, but more, a stereotype of a character offten fictional. For example in the show "how I met your mother" the character Barney depicts these traits, yet I have never met anyone like this and I hope I don't. You raise a good point but I don't think this is worth getting mad over. You have a right to your opinion and so do I.
@DannyDude80 Go look at how many "so true" comments you see on that video, then come back here and tell me you think its audience understands that its portrayal of masculinity is not real.
@subadfish909 The video uses humor to reinforce our conception of what a man is. If we didn't already have this conception, the video would not be funny to anyone. Therefore, by validating a particular idea of masculinity, it strengthens it, and, in effect, does imply that guys shouldn't say those things.
I know what you mean... People have this conception of masculinity... and it's just like, why wouldn't guys say that? Does that make you.. not a man? It promotes the image of all guys being assholes and perverts :/
I'm SO glad you made this video...I felt the exact same way about "Shit Guys Don't Say" and I think it is a really powerful message coming from a male. I wish feminism was de-stigmatized so more males could identify as such. Thank you for making this video!
Thanks for posting about this. I would add to your comments about the woman in the video and say that at the end, in the video camera scene, they had the woman laying limp on the bed, looking unconscious. They both promote videotaping sex without consent, and what appears to be sexual assault of an unconscious woman. This video is fucked up. Thanks for posting your thoughts on it.
@futuretalkvideos this is how i liked to think of the video: i will agree men shouldnt be like anything in this video. but unfortunately, like you said, society has constructed us to be like ShitGuysDontSAY. but look. the video was simply exposing what we dont say but it was never TELLING you to be like it. it was a video making a parody of how how men act. it never told me what i should be. it could of equally been making fun of society. i reflected. i found the humour in it.
@futuretalkvideos alright buddy. dont get to serious. maybe you should just realize that its exploiting all of the stereotypes weve all been led to believe in, they are not making some ploy to tell all males to be an ideal man.
@futuretalkvideos okay. thanks for a definition on normalization; kind of thought i made myself clear that i get the whole point of what people consider is ideal male behaviour. dont think for a second i dont agree with you that men should act like this or that every male acts like that. i dont know why though, i guess this video hit a soft spot for you and its completely offended you. i dont think you found the funnyness in the way its exploited the stereotypes like i did
I know you are talking about all these vidoes and i like your reactions, but if you wanna see a funny one about 'shit pakistani girls say' check out my channel pleaseee :)
I know that a lot of men and probably women will dismiss any criticism of this video as reading too much into it or being too sensitive. As a woman, seeing the way the female character was portrayed was disturbing. Also, I think that the common conception of masculinity often leads to machismo and aggressive attitudes that subjugate and victimize anyone who doesn't fit this box of what men "should be"--women and other men. This, to me, is nothing to laugh about. Glad you understand.
