@StopSpamming1 There's royalty free videos, pictures, programs and so much more. It's just a new way of using creative content without having to pay royalties every single time you use it. Yes there is an initial cost to using it, but compare that cost to the money you would have to spend if you had to pay an artist everytime someone watched your video.
@StopSpamming1 Because record companies and publishers can't control the royalties earned on youtube, they force them to automatically take down anything that's not authorized by them. This is why people get copyright strikes on their accounts. Royalty free music means you don't pay royalties to the artist once you bought the music, yes you have to actually buy the music first, then why is the word free used? Because you don't have to pay royalties, hence the phrase royalty free.
@StopSpamming1 If you wanted to play a track you bought on itunes in your video, you would actually have to pay royalties to the artist for every view you get or get explicit authorization from the publishers and record companies by buying licenses, seems unreasonable right? Well youtube broadcasts to the whole world, so when you put a song in your video you need to understand that the song is being played just like on the radio and tv where an artist collects royalties from each view.
@StopSpamming1 Even though you paid 1 dollar to buy the song on itunes, you don't own the actual licenses (that cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars). Those licenses allow you to use the music for commercial/broadcasting purposes such as on youtube. Royalty free music works like this : an artist earn royalties every time his/her music is played (radio, Tv, online content), those royalties are managed by music publishers which take care of actually paying the artist the royalties they earn.
@StopSpamming1 Hi, I definitely understand that sometimes the differences between what you can and can't do with music is unclear, for starters there are too many websites that define their own version of what copyright actually means. The most important rule to remember is that any music you buy on Itunes cannot be used in your youtube videos. Why? Because you're broadcasting something that was created by someone else and incorporating it into your own content
I have accepted that the music industry has decided to shroud itself into a mist of mystery. There are 1 or 2 clear rules, the rest is nebulous and unclear, much like a religious book.
I was reprimanded for using some music as background, ie not able to re-construct the song from it and cause damage, but rather served as free advertising. In addition, I used it under the impression of a Creative Commons licence. But that was for the lyrics only. Go figure.
Ahhhhhh these comments scare me!
