  • I can´t understand how someone dislike this song. It´s so pure, so beautiful.

  • This jazz'es deep inside my heart. Truly....... you dont know what love is

  • the lyrics are so true. unfortunately...

  • He's just so right!

  • now i understand.

  • This song inspires me. And so his voice does. Thanks for the magic.

  • immenso Chet..

  • he sings like he plays the trumpet... incredibile

  • He escuchado las versiones de Sonny Rollins y Coltrane, pero esta es verdaderamente emocionante y bella. Gracias Chet por tanto arte.

  • Pain is all over so sweet...

  • in what key is this version?

  • Pimpn'

  • Love is... this song.....

  • you don't know what love is until you've paid the cost... so true and chet sings it so beautifully.

  • very sentimental.

  • ABSOLUTLEY FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Thanks for the rainy night company Chet. You are still with us.

  • "...You don't know how hearts burn ...for love that can not live yet never dies...until you've faced each dawn with sleepless eyes...how could you know what love is..."

  • Quite frankly --he speaks to our hearts even now. An iconic musician -- unappreciated by those who owe their own style and fame to this great and unfortunately underappreciated mastter.

  • is he playin the piano as well ?

  • @Jour0n No, only trumpet and vocals

  • he speaks to me. didn't know i could fall in love with someone who is long gone. but i have. his voice is so soft yet so strong, and this song is such a strong refection on my own existence. amazing. absolutely amazing.

  • @alycat712 Sounds like you need to buy "Autum in New York" or "the original Quartet, Sextet and Septet with Russ Freeman" ALL chets recordings in the studio from 1953-1954. Great stuff!!!

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!<3<3<3 - and I love chet baker, not many know about him singing - but I do think he was one of the greatest of jazz-singers - love he's vice, so full of expressions and colour - the colour of blue!!!!!!!!!

  • One of my favourite jazz masterpiece ... I love, love, love this song....

  • Still crying!

  • one person doesn't know what love is..

  • try live my life to the fullest............I only have ryt?....lol

well yeh that's what we should all do

  • I simply love Chet Baker...He is by far my most favourite and beloved jazz-blues singer.I just adore him...His voice and his melodies just take me to places...

  • Great tune.......no a exceptional tune

  • One of the most emotionally drenched songs I've ever heard. This song matches the scar on my heart.

  • Maravilhoso!

  • some people compare elliott smiths voice with chet`s...honestly, i cant reconstruct that...i mean, they are both musical geniuses and i adore them, but they both are totally different in vocal...or am i wrong?

  • pour toi

  • wow...never heard of this guy till now.......im just letting this play in the background nd I feel so cool lol like i can take over the world if i was even bothered to.

  • Beautiful

  • You don’t know how hearts yearn

For love that cannot live yet never dies

Until you’ve faced each dawn with sleepless eyes

How could you know what love is

  • You don’t know what love is Until you’ve learned the meaning of the blues Until you’ve loved a love you had to loose You don’t know what love is You don’t know how lips hurt Until you’ve kissed and had to pay the cost Until you’ve flipped you’re heart and you have lost You don’t know what love is Do you know how lost hearts fear The thought of reminiscing And how lips tasting of tears Loose the taste for kissing
  • I wish he had lived longer ,but what he accomplished is beyond words. This guy was jazz.. His voice, his style, his presence all together was astounding. It was as if he didn't have to work at it, he just had that feeling and it came out every time he sang or played a note. Thank you Chet, you are missed.

  • so beautiful !!!!

  • a lot of people dont know what love is.not even remotely.

  • @pierrerichard7777 yes... I agree. It seems the majority don't.

  • грустная песня...

  • Ohh qué triste. Yo sólo creo que es una gran canción y una estupenda interpretación.

  • This song, "In my solitude" by Billy Holliday and Bill Strayhorn's "Lush life" as sung by Johnny Hartman are heart-wrenching. They are as beautiful as they are tragically painful.

God bless what you left us, Chet.

  • @JazzWithoutANet I love Johnny Hartman, to seldom heard. And Billy Holiday melts me like Chet Does.

  • Mmm such a great voice!

  • 60,000 views and no comments? huh?

  • @ Grubi1990: I understand you perfectly. Me and my girlfriend broke-up recently, and this song tells exactly how sad i feel

  • ok im a little bit drunken,

if got trouble with my girlfriend

and this song makes me really sad

  • I fell in love immediately when I heard this song. His voice goes deep inside my soul........Let's Get Lost. Yeah.

  • chet is the real king

  • I'm really not liking all these comments about liking someone else's version better.

Just focus on what it is you're listening to here, not some other song.

  • splendida,grazie

  • The piano player is baller.

  • great version.l I love Billie Holiday's version, also. It's interesting that this was written by Don Raye, who was best known for his boogie woogie music, many of which was written for the Andrews sisters. (Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, and Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Beat.)

  • I Like more versión with Diamanda Galás...

  • And don't forget June Tabor's version

  • You haven't lived until you have heard the versions by Rachelle Ferrelle and Will Downing. Completely awesome!!!

  • Didn't know this one... Great version but I prefer when Dinah Washington sings !

  • I cried...

  • feeling

  • amazing

  • @Horwitz86 did it ever occur to you I could've been being ironic by favoriting that video?

  • whoa cool guy you have ironic youtube favorites

  • @Horwitz86 I don't

  • I want your cooties , girl !

  • mother of Christ! AND HE PLAYS THE TRUMPET!

  • something about Chet's voice. So innocent.

  • @peptikon I know exactly how you feel...in 1992, I had a very emotional break-up and listened to this album almost daily for a couple of months. My inner-most feelings were recorded and put to music. sigh.

  • @peptikon I love Chet when Im feelin' melancholy.....hurting yet it feels good to hurt, does that make sense? Chet's music makes me think about past love lost. The guy is a genius.

  • @peptikon You Could Not Have Said That Last Line Any Better, "Chet Baker Heals Me And Destroys Me" Chet Baker Is Beyond Amazing & It's Truly Impossible To Not Feel Anything When You're Listening To Him...

  • @peptikon What a sweet beautiful story... I wish you both all the best. This is one of my favourite albums too. I can't help but sing along to it every time I listen to it.

  • @peptikon cool story bro

  • @peptikon This is so beautifully told, I´m sure she will grow old with you too. And I can share these feelings with you, I am a very emotional man too. Also one of my best albums ever, a voice that makes me cry ... RIP Chet Baker, genius of Jazz.

  • @peptikon Chet Baker heals you and destroys you? Wow, I couldn't have said it better, brother.

  • @peptikon

chet baker heals me and destroys me

thats what the best artist do!

  • Great version......he puts a lot of feeling into this....lovely ...Just thought that the word" lovely "is not really appropriate..."Kinda moody with deep feeling ".......Thanks Chet !!!

  • one great artist so he is. personally, i find this song 2nd rate to mediocre at best. time after time/but not for me/angel eyes much better.

  • Chet certainly had his own singing and playing style, you can hear the heartache he was going through in his life in alot of his recordings. But many people said it added to the mystique of his performance. But what a sad way to go found dead outside some dossers hotel......... Dead. But the guy had a death wish, a bit like alot of the greats, But ' Chetty' took it to extremes. He was a bit of a dog to most people who came into close contact with him. Genius never the less. RIP Chett Baker.

  • :] he is amazing

  • I love this song so much... it's beautiful.

  • the GOD

  • Simply..a Breathtaking rendition of this great song! Check out Eric Dolphy's version also.

    @ Harold Land too!

  • meravigliosa!

  • baker always makes me cry because he's just sublime.

  • Brilliant.

  • -and how lips that taste of tears, lose their taste for kissing... Chet's lilting but resonant voice tenderly conveys the proper melancholy this song was written with/for. Poignantly delivered. thanks 4 posting. I enjoyed it...

  • fantastic!

  • <3 it's so beautiful

  • What a beautiful version of this song! Nothing artificial or forced in his voice - Chet just sings and it rings true. This is my favorite version of this song by a singer/musician. And his trumpet playing flows as always.

  • GORGEOUS!

  • meraviglia assoluta

  • Chet Baker tunes never last very long here on Youtube before they are removed.

  • ...............

  • reverences to a beautiful soul

  • This is one of the great jazz vocals of all time, and the best ever version of this amazing song; what a mood this man creates!

  • have u heard this live version-- (1956)

it puts this one to shame.

  • I tried to view the 1956 version, but it's been removed. :-(

  • send a message to the host and see if he'll put it back on!

its too beautiful to now hear.

  • hmm... if you're including non-vocal interpretations, suggest you check out Eric Dolphy's version on "Last Date"

  • Let me be the first to say that this is a wonderful rendition.
