I should have been listening to your commentary more completely before typing. I guess the car topic really got me excited :).

30k miles for an 2006 is great mileage in terms of mileage per year but like I've said before....Not the most reliable...

Also changing and O2 sensor for me personally is easy, Just a ratchet and you ratchet the sensor out. Swap it out, put some anti-seize on the new O2 sensor threading and working backward.

Other than that, I know you don't want a sportier car etc etc but the Lancer ES isn't what I call the most "reliable"..... My friend has the same car you're interested in and at 75k miles his car has crazy amounts of engine problems....radiator has micro-cracked. Head gasket already showing signs of cracking..... Simply put it's not the best car to consider as a first car.

The only problem I have with someone older who drives a vehicle is how well maintained was the car? How often did he/she take the car in for service? Oil change? Sure the modern day oil can with stand thousands of miles more than the recommended 30k mile oil change or so but that can cause more premature wear than usual.[Metal shaving in engine] Not to mention, what kind of gas was pumped? That can cause carbon build up on the piston [SeaFoam or higher octane gas can remove most of the gunk]

There should be a couple on your car, my car personally has 2 one near the header and one near the cat. [Usual spots for majority of all cars- precat/postcat o2 sensor] Replacing them are relatively easy. Also with buying a pre-owned car from someone who's older. Sure they don't beat on it, drive fast etc.... [2 post]

Well anyways Lancers are great cars, but the only thing wrong that I've noticed about them is the brake booster goes out. And the part is not cheap. And O2 censor is not hard to take of you just need a 7/8 wrench.
