Orionman, by "name", you mean, the title of the song? Yes, the German title is JESU BLEIBET MEINE FREUDE. Howver, its English RENDITION (not translation) is JESU JOY OF MAN'S DESIRING. I believe, that's a correct rendition because the German lyrics itself has something to do with man's desire to have joy in his God.

@MrSmartiebaker Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben (BWV 147) is a cantata written by Bach. Jesu bliebet meine Freude is merely the 10th movement, although it is the most well known.
@MrSmartiebaker Well, that's right but wrong. Yes, Cantata 147 is called Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben, but movement 10 is Jesus bleibet meine Freude
I know a very good interpretation by pianist Dinu Lipatti. The score is a piano version by Myra Hess or Ferruccio Busoni. You can listen to Dinu Lipatti on youtube.
@worldclasspervert Myra hess arrangement. just type into youtube... "myra hess jesu sheet",,it is a world famous piano transcription of this piece.. there is no better arrangement.
Technically, though, Bach didn't even title this except to call it a Chorale. "Jesu bleibet meine Freude" is merely the first line of the 10th movement of his cantata "Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben." The first time this chorale appears in the cantata (as the 6th movement) its first line is "Wohl mir, dass ich Jesum habe."
This is instrumental. of course you cannot translate the text into english and sing it. But if it is just for the title i think bach would not care that much. He did not write the text. He just made the music for his church.
@Orionman8 It does not necessarily have to have the title 'Jesu bleibet meine Freude' if it is the english translation sung by a chorus, or is the arrangement by Ian Bailey-Mortimer or Myra Hess.
Can we stop all the bickering about language and just enjoy the piece, plz?

XxOakDryadxX 2 years ago
The tempo is way too "quick" ( high ) !
Phrasing is REALLY sloppy, too.
This sounds like a machine playing ( and it probably is too ).
Only ONE ( 1 ) single expression in the whole piece: the ritardando at the end ( and that is exaggerated ).
One ( half ) star rating : YOU CAN DO BETTER !
