Heiko changed Shinta into Kenshin.... then through the battles of Kenshin Yahiko learned how to become stronger within himself I think. which is why Kenji could not beat Yahiko. though Kenji had the moves of his father Yahiko knew them better and knew to anticipate them and how to counter them. which makes Yahiko the better swordsmen in this fight.
@Uberboy07 well you should start watching it then, since this is best samurai anime ever made out there, though this is only the ova of the anime.....=D
@ScarredSwordHeart no not really, yahiko has more experience, even though kenji has more talent he is still very inexperienced. For example if you were to train at a dojo for a really long time but never really fought someone before and fought someone who has fought for many years the outcome is obvious.
I hated how this OVA ended, I wasn't surprised when I found out today the actual creator didn't like it either. Kenshin deserves alot of things but death sure ain't one of them
@zoesoldier89 I could accept Kenshin dying. But not from what he died from, and what he gave to Kouru to cause her death. AIDS. Fucking AIDS. Though it's understandable. If you frequently have open wounds and other people's blood all over you, you're probably going to get some form of AIDS.
@catishka This is the OVA.... there are 3 Prequels and 3 Sequels.. the prequels detailed how Kenshin became Hitokiri Battousai and the 3 sequels talks about him after the TV series... this is the sequel...
You know, Kenshin's story is really cool. Because he alone has ACTUALLY changed the art of swordsmanship (which is methods to kill). Thats a pretty big commitment and intense ass character to be the one who uses martial arts without ever wanting or needing to kill. This can definitely reflect on how we can live our lives in real life. I wonder, is it applicable now?
@itachifun12 Yahiko is closer to 21 or 22 actually, it's not really specified, only that he's "A man" now. Not sure how to equate that in age. Of course, Yahiko never once had a Birthday in the series, so he was 11 for like 5 years xD
@doggyfishman its very unlikely that it will be localized anywhere other than japan, however with that being said, psp games are region free so you can certainly import just as i plan to do
The sad death of Kenshin in this OVA is not part of Nobuhiro Watsuki's(rurouni kenshin author) original story, someone just made this up with consent to Nobuhiro. In the manga, Kenshin just decided to stay with Kaoru and Kenji and decided to pass the sakabatou to Yahiko. Just read the original rurouni kenshin manga and you will feel better, it has a better happy ending!
Why nobody make a (not Ova or Movie) a serial about Kenji, and in that series he find out who is his father, not a wonderer, but legendary Batosai the manslayer and follow his father footsteps (I do not thinking to Kenji end up like his father), but It will be very interesting to start call him Junior Batosai or Batosai`s son (like father like son lol). That will be awesome, and of course to remember his childhood. This will be very interesting to watch. I really have big imagination! tnx
Huh, Hiko's backstory's never mentioned before but he hints that he also had a rough time like Kenshin. It would be interesting to see an OVA of his backstory himself and see what he went through.
It's kind of sad that Kenji could never be the man his father was, because he will never go through the things Kenshin did. And I'm sure Kenshin would be so happy his son doesn't have to suffer the same fate. But suffering can bring out the best in us, sometimes.
@gl15col some things in life we must grow through to make us better people but some things we don't have to..our parents or those who took care of us try their best to make us learn from their experiences or give us the education we need so that we will be better people.
@gl15col He never would have been like him.. he grew up in a different era, and wasn't even taught the same style really. Besides maybe in his own way he did become someone great. It would have been nice though to have some sort of continuation to see how Yahiko and Kenji really did turn out. :)
I aint sure if my last one showed up but Yahiko isnt a teenage here he is in his late twenties here since this is the last OVA with Rurouni Kenshin,I would sure pay to see a OVA that dealt with Yahiko as he got older and became the badass the manga showed he became.
if you think about it hiten mitsurugi is lost because kenshin chose to lend his arm to the imperialists. if he had stayed with seijuro he would eventually become seijuro hiko XIV.
kenji has never killed anyone and lacks the drive to do so. himura never wants to kill anyone again. so if neither person dies, what would decide the winner?
Honestly, i hated the OVA.. cause they didnt show how strong Yahiko is.. if they only show te Ougi of the Kamiya Kasshin peopl would understand how strong yahiko is.. good thing its in the manga,.
He never taught Kenji. Kenji turned out to be a natural prodigy at swordsmanship and was near recreating Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu but at the same time forsaking his father's no killing ideals.
In other words Kenshin's legacy would have died with him had he not been such a good teacher to Yahiko.
hiko never taught kenji mitsurugi at all,, kenji only know the basics of a sword, thats why yahiko said keji is a genius and he was jealous of him , kenji knew just the basics and yet he fought very well
xwulfd, actually in the manga it was explained that Kenji was such a genius that he was able to study and replicate the moves of hiten mitsurugi-ryu just by ear.
@Blaster23 Kenji's dedication is to his self-aggrandizement rather than the protection of others. It is that which keeps him from surpassing his father.
I'd have to disagree, Kenji has more natural raw talent and is a hard worker. The reason Yahiko won i believe is experience,. The experience Yahiko has Kenji will almost surely never gain and will be a gap that can't be overcome, I doubt Kenji will beat yahiko in a real fight ever.
Except that Nobuhiro Watsuki was forced by jump to write that bullshit clean happy ending epilogue chapter to the manga, so I think it's a stretch to call it the real deal at all. And I think that it's safe to assume that since this is set in Meiji Era Japan and not present day that Kenshin did in fact die eventually. All this OAV did was explain how.
Actually he said it himself in an interview that after all the crap kenshin went through he deserves a happy ending and he is a person that likes to have happy endings. So I have no idea how you got that jump forced him to write a happy ending.
No stupid colors were added. The makers put those colors to gesture the fact that the scene you're talking about (1:37 ~ 1:55) was a flashback for Kenji.
but yahiko is realy amazing he become so strong i can say he surpass saito and aoshi the way he use the sword and defend himself, beside we must remaber the battle against henia when he was child but amzing sowrdsman
The only reason Yahiko turned out to win was he had a fine sword. I truly belive Kenji would have been better. Did you even look at the way he moved and went Aggro on Yahiko and all Yahiko was able to do was defend. Anyway thnx for the upload ^^
you do know that the Kamiya Kasshin Ryū is based on defense.. Kenji is skillful as he is trained under the hitten mitsurugi but he lacks experience compared to Yahiko's..
kenshin's sword was actually not that powerful. it was the most powerful reverse-blade sword, but that doesn't mean it could defeat a regular sword on its own. the reason kenshin did so well with it was because his strikes were faster than his opponents' strikes. it's the same for Yahiko.
yahiko is a defensive fighter, and he also seemed like he wasn't trying his absolute best.
yahiko's style is the combination of hiten mitsurugi and kashin ryu,if you watched the anime kenshin said that he'll be teaching yahiko hiten mitsurugi but he's gonna be teaching him techniques without all of the killing method integrated wit the kashin style. yahiko has a more balanced and round-up style than kenji. just because he's more of in a defensive stance always doesnt mean he cant beat the crap out of kenshin's son. he can and he will anytime of the day.
Wow! Yahiko looks good as a grown-up! But he's way funnier in his younger version. I did remember him from the TV series as an orphan whose family is of a proud samurai lineage.
02:31-02:36 Kenji using the Ryu-Tsui-Sen on Yahiko brings back memories of when Kenshin used the exact same move (and Shishio used the exact same block as Yahiko)in the Kyoto Arc.
I partially agree with what elmerion said. A rurouni is a wanderer, and since Kenshin wanders from town to town, that is how the name came to be. Also, you could say he was a samurai but that's not necessarily true. He's more of just a swordsman because he was not born from a family of samurai, but from a commoners family, eventually being taken in by Hiko Seijuro XIII
Rurouni means wanderer and Rounin means masterless samurai. Kenshin wasn't a Samurai so to use the word Rounin was inappropriate so they used the word Rurouni.
"Rurouni" is actually just a piece of Kanji the author of the manga, Watsuki, made up entirely. He said himself once that "wanderer" is not read as "rurouni" and that he invented the word simply because he didn't wan to use "ronin," which would imply he was a samurai, since Kenshin has never served a feudal lord in t
Actually, rurouni isn't a real word. The author, Watsuki, stated once that when naming the series he invented the word, because the word "ronin" was inappropriate as Kenshin was never a samurai.
That means the title "Samurai X" is not quite correct (in Japanese they were called RK: Tsuiokuhen), it was just kind of coined when Sony Corporation rereleased their edited English version of the original show under that name.
they do have a series with kenji and yahiko its called yahiko no sakabato they become rivals and kenji gets cocky and ends up kinda like battosai its awesome!

The only reason Yahiko turned out to win was he had a fine sword. I truly belive Kenji would have been better. Did you even look at the way he moved and went Aggro on Yahiko and all Yahiko was able to do was defend. Anyway thnx for the upload ^^
sesshy34 3 years ago
you do know that the Kamiya Kasshin Ryū is based on defense.. Kenji is skillful as he is trained under the hitten mitsurugi but he lacks experience compared to Yahiko's..

kenshin's sword was actually not that powerful. it was the most powerful reverse-blade sword, but that doesn't mean it could defeat a regular sword on its own. the reason kenshin did so well with it was because his strikes were faster than his opponents' strikes. it's the same for Yahiko.
yahiko is a defensive fighter, and he also seemed like he wasn't trying his absolute best.

true
johnsonisaiah12321 3 years ago
yahiko's style is the combination of hiten mitsurugi and kashin ryu,if you watched the anime kenshin said that he'll be teaching yahiko hiten mitsurugi but he's gonna be teaching him techniques without all of the killing method integrated wit the kashin style. yahiko has a more balanced and round-up style than kenji. just because he's more of in a defensive stance always doesnt mean he cant beat the crap out of kenshin's son. he can and he will anytime of the day.

plus yahiko has loads more training.

Not just stronger.... Lol, but do you see this in the show? Because I've watched the 6 OVA and some parts are not in it.

amazing yahiko realy become stronger but kenji is amazing too!

He's more of just a swordsman because he was not born from a family of samurai, but from a commoners family, eventually being taken in by Hiko Seijuro XIII
xXShinzouXx 4 years ago
not realy a rurouni is a samurai with no lord to follow look it up
shankyhippy 4 years ago
you mean ronin
elmerion 4 years ago
Rurouni means wanderer and Rounin means masterless samurai. Kenshin wasn't a Samurai so to use the word Rounin was inappropriate so they used the word Rurouni.
Valiare 4 years ago
"Rurouni" is actually just a piece of Kanji the author of the manga, Watsuki, made up entirely. He said himself once that "wanderer" is not read as "rurouni" and that he invented the word simply because he didn't wan to use "ronin," which would imply he was a samurai, since Kenshin has never served a feudal lord in t
tophat753 4 years ago
Actually, rurouni isn't a real word. The author, Watsuki, stated once that when naming the series he invented the word, because the word "ronin" was inappropriate as Kenshin was never a samurai.
That means the title "Samurai X" is not quite correct (in Japanese they were called RK: Tsuiokuhen), it was just kind of coined when Sony Corporation rereleased their edited English version of the original show under that name.
You're welcome if this was helpful.
