  • What really irks me about films like these is that they give the impression that by praying a prayer to an imaginary friend, all of your sins (even the brutal murder of another human being) can be wiped away and you can go skipping off into a blessed paradise with Jesus and all of his pals for eternity. Nowhere do we get to hear about the wife or the kind of person she was. This is the glorification of a despicable person who deserves the punishment that was meted out to him.

  • was this from a movie? or was it something you made yourself? oh it doesnt mattter! this is the best video that i have ever watched on youtube! BRAVO!!

  • Just a side note. I Google things on YouTube that I like to get more info on and found NOTHING. Would love to know if this a true story, who the actors were what reviews were of this film etc. Thanks again!!!

  • Well done. The best part was that the son never really said he forgave his Dad. Well written!! It was just enough detail without becoming too sweet. The man was a killer after all.

  • I have to say thank you for makeing this video Ive done time and changed. This really tuched my heart.

  • @ThefirstDrInsane2U

    Thank you!

  • Great video.

  • @HRTOACTIVIST

    Thank you!

  • @stephencpickering Your welcome. This was a great video. The video acshuly couased me to get emotional lol but in a good way. :)

  • @HRTOACTIVIST That's great to hear! It's always tough to pull off emotion in such a short time period with the audience. This is actually my old account- my new account is stephencpickering and there is where my newer films are if you're interested in seeing others. Thanks again for the positive feedback!

  • Well, I would rate this right up there with my all-time favorite "The Shawshank Redemption" -- especially the music score! Tim Robbins (as Andy Dufresne): "Just remember, Red. Hope is a good thing. Maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies."

  • I have just noticed that Charles' number, #37927, was the same as that worn by Andy Dufresne (played by Tim Robbins) in "The Shawshank Redemption"; his fellow inmate wears #30465, worn by "Red" in that film (Morgan Freeman)!

  • @rayandreina I think you're the first to notice this! Toshie (my editor) did a lot of the art direction and I believe it was her who slipped it in.

I appreciate your comments on this film. Shawshank was definitely inspiration. I would like to explore options of creating a longer film someday based on this short.

PS- this is Stephen the director. "Waterspick" is my old account.

  • with all the crap being viewed on you tube, this is such a breath of fresh air, so well done, and for anyone who's done time and missed their loved ones, well this is close to a replication, more people should see this, thanks.

  • @grenda5 Thank you for your post and the positive encouragement. I'de like to make more thought provoking films again in the furture.

  • @waterspick wow, is this you who made this film? thank you so much for taking the time to email me, yes, I do hope you can make more films, in this particular film, there is much to think about, I myself am an agnostic, but the question of repentance and forgiveness that was portrayed here was human felt, and we all have done things we are not proud of, I met some of the most genuine people in prison, please you take care and be well, thanks again!

  • Seems that in many reflections and lessons in life is that forgiveness for self and others is the pathway to happiness for the soul, no matter the situation. The son proved this with his letter and lets not forget, its a movie. Does art reflect reality?...... sometimes!

  • Just a great story about forgiveness. I mean it's not like I'm condoning what he has done, which was wrong, but we don't know the reason why he killed his wife. At least, he felt remorse about it. That is what's important.

I really wanted more close-up shots, which would have been a much intimate relationship between viewer and characters. I believe it would have created a deeper connection. Well done regardless.

  • Good work Stephen! That actually brought tears to my eyes! Best work ive seen from you so far.

  • What is this film called ???

  • Of the many interpretations, the one I closest intended was that of a sinner (Charles, the murderer) being forgiven by Christ (Jesse, his motherless son). Of course this annalogy cannot be picked appart too much before it breaks down, but then again, it's a 10 minute film.

  • Hey guys, I appreciate all of the comments. It's interesting how this film strikes different chords with each viewer.

JeffreyMedia, I couldn't help but notice your comment, "lets not forget... this man took someones life..." That's the whole point! A murderer (which he is) is forgiven. It's not deserved and from a human standpoint the act of murder cannot be forgotten, yet somehow from God's point of view our sins can be forgotten- even the act of murder against His son, Jesus.

  • Jeffrey I think I can honestly say that regardless of the circumstances, I could not push for the death penalty. There are families of victims out there that fight to save the lives of their loved ones' killers. Punishment is meant to teach the recipient a lesson, there is no lesson to be learned in having your life ended. I would venture to say that ancient romans were more civilized ecayuse at least they gave their gladiators a fighting chance, not that i believe in that sort of thing.

  • killing in revenge is selfish, it is a way for survivors to make themselves feel better, it in no way benefits the real victim. Sure the murderer acted selfishly, doesn't mean we have to stoop to their level. And jeffrey, i bet you wouldn't be so bold if you were the one who had to flip the switch and forever snuff out a life. It takes a special kind of person to be able to end the life of a helpless man who is strapped to a chair or table.

  • I would be sad, and angry Jeffrey, but i would also be concentrating on the memory of that lost love one and not the one who killed them. I also have the sense to know that killing them will not bring that loved one back, nor would it make me feel better, infact i think it would soil the memory of the victim to make myself feel better by killing the killer.

  • I would probably feel like killing him at first, but I would quickly get over my animal instincts and think like a human being. I evolved from being a caveman a long time ago! Violence never solves violence. Just because i FEEL someone should die, doesn't make it right.

  • Jeffrey, I feel sorry for you. You are trapped in the small limited prison of your own mind. There is more to life than revenge.

  • Excellent, film. The message to me is that there is forgiveness. If his son, a meer mortal can find it in his heart to forgive him, then of course God has forgiven him.

  • I just can't get enough of this feature film geez I would ao buy this if it were a full length movie I have sat down and watch this 14 times already and told all my friends this movie is a fine example to show young go getters that perserverence is a key note in life thank my friend.

    Ty

  • that was great. I got goose bumps. Well Done.

  • i cried it was great

  • thanks.

  • This is a message from my friend:

    I watched this!

I never thought a 10-minute short movie could make me cry that bad! It's a wonderful job!!!

  • I have this weird feeling in my throat like

if I was going to cry. o__o

This should have been an 91 minute movie, I'd pay to watch it. I like how he was forgiven. :)

5/5 I like how you directed it.

  • cool!

  • It's a sad story but I felt happy for Charlie. It would have been more sad if he had to go without knowing his son still loves him. I'd love to watch a movie about the prospective from his son.

  • Thanks for the comment. Depending on how you look at it, the forgiveness from his son is metaphorically God's forgiveness-- It set him free.

  • good job on this

  • Excellent piece of work

    sad so sad

  • I'd be interested in hearing some comments on this project,as it was shot by a very tight crew and I think the casting was second to none......? Cheers....Stephen VFS Short

  • Good to hear from you, Stephen. I had a blast working on this film. Are you still working in film around there? We've only done a few short projects here in Wisconsin but we are certainly keeping busy.

    Take care, -Stephen (Director)

  • this is such a sad story, but it happens everyday in americas prison system

  • Nice to see it up one the TUBE.....really enjoyed working with the cast and crew....Charlie aka Stephen Beattie
