Great instructional video. I'm a rank amateur when it come to mechanics, and even with a more complicated housing, your video allowed me to make short work of replacing the cord. Thanks!
Thanks a lot for this video. It helped me get the job done. One thing I did different was to wind up the holder, then string the rope through and tie it, then let the holder go. It wound up the rope with no problem.
Yo,Donyboy ... went to sell a used mower and the pull cord snapped on me. Watched your vid and got this thing going in less than 30 minutes! Thanks man!
what is with the tecumseh rope?........a staple stuck thru plastic on the rope holder....did you ever see a design that way......almost need a air stapler to replace it,after you feed it through, or.....cut off the hunk of plastic and tie a knot in the rope????
I bought a brand new carb for 35.00 for a stihl fs46 trimmer wich i think is a better deal than to rebuilding it that would of costing 25.00 so for a extra 10.00 buy a new one
@richardwernst I believe this is an old model too, newer ones don't have plastic pawls, modern 3,5 recoils are installed in conjunction with a ball starter clutch. from 5hp onwards they have metal pawls and a bowl over the flywheel
@conflustered A wire cup-brush on a drill will work fine for removing surface rust. I used rustoleum brand paint after removing the loose rust. It binds with the rust left on the metal and prevents new rust from forming. Make sure not to paint the exhaust or it will burn off.
The oil you're putting on the rachet assemly: Make sure to use a non petroleum based oil, like lithium or silicon. If you use a petroleum based lubricant, it will degrade the plastic parts and cause more problems down the road.
Same thing with the safety level/throttle cables. They have a plastic sleeve so don't use a lubricant that will degrade the plastic lining and gum up the cable.
I think my recoil spring needs tightened. Cause the handle will hang out about 3 inches after you start the lawn mower and the recoil will be catching while the engine is running for about a minute then the handle is all the way inside.
great video dony, when i get mowers in with broken strings, i usually replace the whole starter assembly, just because its easier and i have used ones in stock most of the time, but now since i saw this video i might try to repair one this way. thanks again keep up the good work.

Any how, thanks again. Worked like a charm.

You should wear safety glass's when messing with recoil spring some times
they fly out and might hit you in the eye
ScottAtwater1 6 months ago
even easier is to just leave the recoil together, wind it all the way up and put the rope through. tie a knot, let it recoil, and you're done!

Another excellent video, thanks, that's a different kind of recoil mechanism than the really old ones I am familiar with so good to learn!
BTW, do you ever put any lube, oil, anti-seize or whatever on bolts going into aluminum?

Donyboy that was a perfect video man. Can you do a detail explanation of the working of a carburetor and what all those holes do.
