@drumswack. Just another example of how Kenney -for me, this is my opinion!- ruins some of the songs on Alive at Red Rocks. Stellar is also one of them. He's a talented musician but knowing your place in the band is vital to me. This song feels more like the Ben Kenney-show.

Before 1990, there were rock players who actually played bass like this gentleman, instead of just following the guitar, like most failed guitarists who are forced to play bass do. He did a great job, with some nice tasty fills. If you want it to sound exactly like the CD, then stay home and listen to that.

@Zubirrex Who said I wanted him to follow the guitar? Are you assuming I know nothing about playing a bass guitar? There's a difference between standing out because of the complexity of your bass line (such as say Steve Harris, Flea, Tim Commerford) and standing out because your bass line's volume is turned up. Ben isn't playing anything brilliant here, his volume is just turned up. And improvising isn't a bad thing- unless your improvising doesn't suit the mood of the piece.

the only thing i like about the new bassist is his bassline at 1:18-1:23 .. otherwise I find live (ive seen them live a few times) hes late a lot, and his sound just isnt the same as lance. Also missing that low b 5th string makes tone differences between them

While I liked how Lance played, a solid portion of his lines were written by Mike. AFAIK, he essentially left the band because the other members were sick of him being lazy :/

Also, Ben is great in his own right, but very different from Dirk. Coming from The Roots, his playing has that hip-hop feel to it, while Lance was far more funk-based.

He does his own thing I know.. i never thought he was bad I just didn't like him with incubus.. theres a tone that makes incubus who they are and he doesn't fully capture it. Even if hes playing exactly the same part as Dirk, it doesn't feel or sound the same.
