Sorry to break it to you, but all those bands are of different subgenres.

BFMV and KsE are Metalcore. SoaD and Slipknot are Nu Metal and A7X are modern Hard Rock.

If you wanna hear what Modern Metal really is, check out bands like The Unguided, Mutiny Within, Machinae Supremacy, dEMOTIONAL, etc.

honestly opeth shouldn't be on this list. They have been around since the early 90's, Necrophagist, Meshuggah, and Nevermore have been around for a long long time. They aren't so modern. They have stuff coming out but I don't really think thats what makes them modern. Its the sound, style, look, you know all the other stuff. I do agree with DevilDriver, Lamb of God, and Mastodon though. All those bands kick major ass.

i can only agree with Opeth, Nevermore, and Necrophagist. Respect all rocker's opinions but there are plenty of more metal bands to make this list. If you haven't heard already, try: Obscura, Symphony X, Evile, Winter Sun, Dream Evil, Gojira, Outworld. These seven could possibly make it.

I dunno. From 8-2 just sounded like I was fighting a boss in the original Zelda game. With metal like this these days, it's no wonder Lamb of God is consistently at the top of everyone's list. They are really the only good modern metal band.

I wish metal would become sorta mainstream again, like it was in the 80's. Sure the stuff on the radio will be shit, but at least it won't be shit kids like Justin Bitcher or dumb broad bands like Whore-alicious every 20 minutes.

I hate when metal bands go out of their way to sound menacing/evil/heavy as in singing all hoarsely (as in screamo/death metal), lol what do you call that? (noob moment). Its just annoying :p most bands/songs like that sound crap. Look at how popular and well known Metallica are, and they never scream, as well as Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Black Sabbath, even Slayer, as well as some modern bands eg. System Of A Down...

Quite a few of that list don't use all harsh vocals. Opeth certainly don't all the time. Nevermore's singer (Warrel Dane) is classically trained. Mastodon use various layers of vocals, which sound awesome.

Yeah maybe Opeth have more talent than those bands, but i really don't like opeth that much, i can hear a few songs and that's it, but when it comes to Mastodon, ATR and Lamb of God i can hear their whole album. Just my opinion.
