  • what a cool song! what's the name of the song?

  • @olekike Cool indeed: Miles Davis gave birth to 'cool jazz'. The song is "It never entered my mind"

  • Music is sad! Need happy happy music with this video.

  • Javvawack, just remove that single splitter from the bottom of the porta-filter altogether. It is very difficult to keep it as hot as the porta-filter itself and thus cools your espresso prematurely.

Synesso has gone all of the way and completely removed the bottom of the porta-filter.

Simply removing that splitter will solve 2 quality problems of pack and cooling.

  • @MicroSSG I'm gonna get a naked asap

  • @Jabbawack You'll be glad you did! You'll be amazed while watching the pour and how your grind and pack adjustments make on the pour. The direct link between them will be apparent right off.

Other thoughts on naked porta-filters: you can see a pack defect when you see part of your extraction being white (over-extracted).

    Good luck

  • Where did you get the plastic collar from that you used when grinding?

  • I intend to buy myself one of these magnificent machines as a Christmas present to myself. Can I ask where you bought the plastic collar to fit into the group handle when grinding? Excellent idea.

  • @Radguy150 I think it would do a great xmas present :)

The collar was very cheap: I made it myself by cutting off the base of a plastic glass. It's that easy

  • @Jabbawack THanks.

  • I'm not a pro, but do have some advice.

Usually people tamp on an edge e.g. edge of the bench.

That way you avoid that awkward tamp and have vertical orientation.

    For your consideration.

  • @YourMonkeyKiing thanks, I do it now most of the time, now

  • ... simple machine, great espresso .. really cost and effectiveness are gathering @ once .. [_]D

  • Nice vid. I'm considering this machine. Nice score too! Is this the standard heat exchanger model? I'm thinking of throwing down the extra $100 for the PID Double Boiler model. Also, do you know if the La Marzocco PF fit these with no problem? Want to get a bottomless PF and Vibiemme doesn't offer their own.

  • thanks! this is the single boiler, no hx. the pid would actually be a great value. i don't know if LM portafilters fit in this one, sorry. if you find out let me know, i'm interested in a naked too :)

  • ChrisCoffee and 1st-Line say the Rancilio PF fits perfectly. Any standard E61 PF should work but the Rancilio is a good value over the other branded models. ChrisCoffee offers the Rancilio bottomless with a LM triple basket for 59.95.

  • thanks! now i have to find a seller in europe, shipping and custom-house would kill me ;)

  • I would love to take the PL51 off your hands, but I don't have that money right now lol. I'm gonna invest in a grinder (maybe the pl 043 like you) since rocky's are nearly impossible to find here.

  • Why did you upgrade from the PL51 ?

If you still have it, I would be interested...

For your next clip, I vote for something kind of blue...

  • Well, I found this beauty for less than half the original price, brand new, near home. It was a no-brain! I love the e61 group and the preinfusion.

Regarding the PL51, it is indeed a great machine, especially for the price. But if you live in the Caribbean, it would cost A LOT to send it there, don't you think?

Kind of blue would be a great bg music. Although I'm experiencing some copyright problems, especially in Germany...

  • A bit of advice: keep the portafilter locked in at all times; you want the group head temp. stable, and the portafilter helps achieve this. Portafilters like to be away from the group as little as humanly possible.

  • The pf had been locked in for a couple of hours, so was quite hot. I've just turn down the pressure setting the OPV to 9 bars. The first shot didn't show any particular improvement, but part of the puck got stuck on the shower screen for the first time. I'll check again tomorrow morning

  • Nice upgrade. More forgiving than the PL51.
