  • I notice a lot of people saying how they have 'seen it'-no one mentioning 'experienced' it-it's now cool to see it as dirty and gross to be addicted. Part of the issue to why Layne gave up and said fuck it-he felt he was an outcast in this new subliminally subverted society that said 'drugs are evil and bad, look down on users'.Feel free to tell this ex-user to fuck off.

  • God, just listening to him talk makes me want to bawl, let alone listen to that wonderful singing talent that we will never hear again-wish he was still here doin stuff

  • what happened with laynes book? i would love to see that

  • layne staley was the best person to ever grace this planet.

  • the end is kinda sad

  • I love this guy. Without being a homo.

R.I.P Layne, Dimebag, Kurt, Cliff, Phil.

    All great musicians.

  • where are the layne stayley basement tapes?

  • Rest in peace Layne.... we miss you but never will we forget..may your soul have found inner peace

  • what a loss...

  • That last question will haunt AIC fans forever. I got goosebumps

  • Man I really wish that Alice could have made one more record like Layne said. I really wonder what it would be like.

  • abbie...what was done to him at MTV Unplugged?

  • I only wish I could go back to April 2002 and save this beautiful man!! I am sick that his close friends didnt make something happen! Its always wish I could have or why didnt I...... If only we could turn back time. We love you Layne.

  • @fluxerflixer1 Having lived in the same house as a junkie, I know how that is just impossible. Junkies will only get better if they choose to. No one person can change that... It's all up to them. I believe that his friends tried everything they could, but there's no way to stop it for happening unless he had made the choice. He was a troubled mind and unfortunately for is family, friends and fans, he chose his path. I too would love to turn back time and do everything I could to stop it. R.I.P.

  • @tequiladave78 totally agree. i've seen it myself.

  • How cool is it that Layne has been trying to get a book published? I wrote a novel a little while ago and would like to see it published. I had no idea Layne had similar ambitions! RIP Layne! I hope you are at peace.

  • To MsBrit78 If I could get a DeLorean I would diffently go back and tell him that. I was in distraught in 2002 when I find out he was gone. I just couldn't believe it. My roommate at college said I looked awful. Man I give anything to go back to tell him that but would he actually believe me? RIP LAYNE wish we could have you back dude.

  • Jesus, someone go back to the day this interview was done and fucking save this man. Tell him that this is the last album they will make, that 3 years from now he's going to be a recluse, and in more pain than he can imagine. Tell him that this world will be fucking unbearable when he's not here anymore. Tell him we're waiting for him and that he can be healthy again, it's not too late. Someone do something :(

  • @MsBrit78 apart from telling him. take him to support, close, real support and guidance, without any type of indifference, judgement and rejection. take him to a trusted, humane professional to help him to deal with the situation and relationship with his father, the divorce from his mom and deal with the broken heart his former girlfriend left him. and show him that he's more than a talented and fantastic singer from AIC, an amazing and unique human being, unconditional love he need;)

  • @MsBrit78 If I could I would. I feel the same way like you are.

  • anyone know if this layne staley solo project has anything floating around on the net?

  • did layne ever publish a book? i would love to read it

  • Anyone know happened to Laynes book?

  • I wish that he would have finished that solo work.

  • "We've taken some painful feelings and pulled them out of ppl & made it sound beautiful....and make it easier for that persson to deal with those memories and/or feelings" sniff sniff....i miss him so! Thanks for sharing this with us, at least we can still hear his voice and watch him in videos! Poor Nancy, how difficult this has been for her as a mother.

  • he sounds like such a nice guy he is the definition of a real artist and thats the same thing i said about kurt when i saw the movie kurt cobain about a son :) they are still missed

  • I bet his solo work would have been mindblowing.

  • @Rebphoenix Fuck yeah dude. I know with his Mad Season record they gave him pretty much total creative control, so that was about as close as we could get....amazing record.

  • @savagembrace for me mad season is his solo stuff and its great!!!!

  • did he ever make that book if so can u give me the name so i can buy it?

  • Layne was a pure genius. Wish he were stil here. I wonder if we will ever get to read the book he was working on.

  • that last question was the ..... omg.... moment.. R.I.P LAYNE!

  • You don't suck I just wish I knew when this interview was.

  • @yourhammerde You can only get it in CD format right now for 20 bucks on the artspublicationbooks website. Ebay sells the actual book for big money because its out of print.

  • @EXPcustom can I get a link to that website lol,

  • @zachw1014 Youtube wont let me post links so just google artspublications and you will find it on their website.

  • I just closed my eyes and listened to his voice, thanks

  • I want more!!!!!

  • anyone know if that solo project he had is available anywhere, and the book as well? Bootleg at least?

  • ok i bet u any money the cocaine killed layne. i bet u a ny money he was shootin coke and dope in the same shot. i also think he def had aids. 1 because demri was in and out out of his life, she was seling her body when she wasent with layne. then came back to him. mike star was kicked outta the band b/c he slept with jerry g/f at the time. i know alot about this band. my sister went t oschool with melinda starr (mike sister)

  • @Nicky6fromBoston That is pretty much what the autopsy says coke and heroin. Everyone goes out doing speedballs like Belushi, Farley, Hoon etc... I am more thinking Layne likely had Hep-C when he died not saying that he had or did not have AIDS but we will never know for sure. Also Mike Starr pretty much got kicked out because he could not handle his drugs but fucking Jerry's girlfriend did not help either.

  • @EXPcustom well, considering it is very unlikely to get hiv/aids from a woman through sex, (I think it's like 8% possible transmission or something like that, it is mainly just transmitted through semen) even if Demri had it and they had unprotected sex, she most likely wouldn't have transmitted it to him...but, then of course, they probably still shared needles, which would mean that way that she would have given it to him regardless...but I really doubt he had it. Not that it matters anyway...

  • @Nicky6fromBoston Im glad you bet any money that he was shooting coke/heroin in the same shot, because you know, that hasnt been known since the day he died. And he didnt fucking have aids.

  • Comment removed

  • @Nicky6fromBoston ...you know mikes sister eh?

  • @Nicky6fromBoston who are you? and why do you keep saying you know me because your sister went to school with me? please stop saying ugly things about people & situations & then mentioning my name. btw... i am Mike's sister Melinda.

  • GREAT THANKS!!!

  • alot of people overdose tho like my 2 good friends i seen them kill their self and i didnt do anything to help them besides let them put a needle in my arm for the first time....r.i.p ryan reed and josh register ....the reason they died imo anyway is ryan just got out of 60 days of rehab and probably shot up the same amount he was use to before rehab...either that or he killed his self i will never know until i meet the same fate from the same drug

  • our soldiers are the ones believe it or not bringing tha dope here.... alot of it... heroin is everywhere now duh......thats why im still strung out...besides the fact that my ex is pregnant and she doesnt know if its mine or not...lifes fuckin great no wonder why i shoot up dope

  • @HendrixPlease Yup, thank our government.....why do you think they're going after afghanistan now..??

  • lol its fucking almost impossible to fit 75x the "lethal dosage" which is a joke in the first place....you cant hardly get that much fuckin heroin in a syringe....lol like a 100 units is the biggest needle you can get now days...ive been a junkie and done grams at a time..of good shit straight from new york straight from afghanistan... so good makes my dick hard now thinkin bout it...1/4 gram would kill a new user hmmm.... idk maybe if its real good shit

  • yall hear what name he says during this right....ha jimi hendrix....really cool interesting interview tho really

  • man that last question got me

  • this is awesome with the talk about the effects on the vox thats sick :)

  • 4:22 they are cranking a bong!!

  • holy fuckin shit! your right hahahahha that is fuckin awesome!!!!!!!!!! rip layne

  • layne was such a good person, he didn't deserve to die the way he did. cut off from society, it took the world 2 weeks to even notice he was missing. RIP

  • @CapitainHiTop um, he cut himself off from society. his band mates tried to stay in touch with him but he wouldn't answer the door nor the phone nor anything else. and that's why he died the way he died. sad but true.

  • @pacovl46 agreed..

  • And where is the next album you promised Layne? .. =/

  • You don't suck.

  • A band can do whatever it wants & fans have no say. However, they can have opinions. Is it me or does it smell like BS in the AIC camp? Mike Starr on Celebrity Rehab, Layne's mother will be on the show & the ads for some game & the AIC songs that will be on it - all on VH1. Makes me sick to my stomach. I think some are so full of crap ... thus the years of "mystery." Her & Starr make $ when AIC makes $. I hope it ALL comes out. Makes me think Rubio & Vece were/are not full of * afterall ...

  • We are supposed to find out Mike Starr was the last one to see Layne alive on the show. Also that last interview with Rubio was very real but I personally think that Vece chick is full of shit. She already released excerpts out of her book then recanted and said someone else wrote them after she was called on her BS about Layne dancing at raves in the late 90's. She was the one also claiming not to be Nikki Sixx's daughter then was called on that so she has a history of lies.

  • I think Rubio told the truth too it was just HOW it was written that was such a nightmare. Vece - I did not know about all the recants. It seems so many are hellbent on believing A, B and C and get really nasty when anyone else suggests a different side. The timing just seems odd right now in all of this. I wonder if they would ever let Starr back in the band or work together somehow? Thanks for the vids by the way.

  • If you take a look, all the pieces of information are out there on the net, you just have to put them together and you can see whats BS and whats not since some forums and threads got deleted a lot of that info is gone now. Rubio sucks as a writer but the information is good, Emetal's posts from Findadeath forums were legit, the only one not adding up is Vece and no one can vouch that she was around Layne at all, this is why she kept post poning her book and deleting former press releases.

  • Also I dont think AIC will ever let Starr in the band ever again but I am sure they will have him make appearances with them. Inez is now part of AIC and he has always had his stuff together, Starr barely has any sobriety and would be a liability to AIC as a permenant replacement. I think there is just too much bad blood for him to ever come back to AIC other than some sit-ins or award shows.

  • what???when is laynes mother gonna be on there?

  • Watch the show on VH1 it should be up in the next few weeks unless they decided to edit it out. No one has actually seen the episode yet.

  • Comment removed

  • @evilnicegirl Laynes Mom did get payed by the show to go on. She didnt use her aic money to fly there. Vh-1 flew her up put her in hotels and wined and dined her like the queen of england. Now she sings laynes songs at tributes. Im not to sure about that woman. why didnt she try to help layne when he was alive? Like i tried to save your brother. I got Mike on the show. ask your mom melinda she will tell who called who. the truth will set you free. Im already free. dont forget it

  • @ALBERTromano1965 You pitched getting Mike on the show to the execs and they said yes? That's a hell of a feet because they were trying to get Artie Lange on the show and other A-lists more power to you, I liked seeing Mike on the show. Also since you and Melinda are posting here why was Mike's bail 100k in August? Possession should only be 10k bail tops and that's with priors and I hope someone got Mike a bail hearing to attempt reduce the amount before posting a bond on a 100k.

  • lol, nobody is going to tell this "pacovl46" idiot anything that will change his mind... he's RIGHT and we're WRONG because he read somewhere on the internet that "2.25mg" of heroin is a lethal dose no matter how tolerant to it you are.

is he seriously saying that "two point two five mg" of heroin is 3x the lethal dosage for even the heaviest user? is he fucking insane? maybe he means "225", in which case I've injected three times that much MySELF, quality north eastern dope, and lived.

  • pacovl, if you want some 'FACTS', back in the early 1900s when heroin was legal and easily obtainable, there were several studies where documented addicts have injected 2-3 grams in a SINGLE dose and with no ill effects. This was pure heroin. There is a factor called "tolerance" that must be taken into consideration when you are trying to determine whether or not someone died by OD or not. Kurt was rich, an addict, and probably got really good shit, so he definitely had a very high tolerance.

  • Also the "Facts" that "pacovl46" is getting from the website are from that guy Tom Grant who was hired by Courtney to keep an eye on Kurt and he did a shitty job of that so now he is collaborating with other has-been writers by selling books to capitilize on Kurt's death.

  • @elitet0kr lololo... northeastern dope a fucking gerbal can live from it !!

  • @elitet0kr maybee its 225 but even if its northeastern u will still come out alive ,lolol.these m.f. walk the walk all over it .then shit on it . then sell it

  • @LilLee965

First of all, your grammar and punctuation speak louder than your words. You're a moron.

You can't and don't have any idea how pure the dope I got was. You are mistaken if you think the kind of dope you're familiar with, the kind that has been trampled on and shit on, is the only kind of dope in existence.

The dope I was getting was "raw" brown rocks, meaning if it was cut/diluted it was done back in South America where it was made originally. Extremely high purity.

  • Still rainin...

  • i love layne so much!!!!

  • Layne and Kurt was amazing artist and that's it. They didn't want to be someone to cry for. I love their music and i think that mostly sad people who have their inner demon's can make good art.

  • Does anybody know what exact date or month this interview took place?

  • I'm trying to find the date too

  • layne was a beautiful person inside and out, he let a total stranger in his home (jerry) he has a wonderful sense of humor he just made some bad mistakes. cant wait to see you in the skies above buddie R.I.P

  • We keep wondering what if layne this or that. I think him as well as kurt cobain and maybe shannon hoon were so sick of all of us, they died for us, they were so overwhelmed about fans and media trying to know every fucking thing about them, how I wish they could've been free of all the fame and live their lifes as we can live our own. in some way we the fans are guilty of their deaths

  • I love all the artists you mentioned.. They died because of drug addictions...Nothing else

  • Jesus dude, thats a bit of a backhanded insult to the fans isnt it? Fuck! If anyone knew they could matters i'm sure they would man, that goes for both Kurt and Layne.Shame they died in there prime ofcourse but dont start draggin ppl down for being fans. NOBODY was to know..life is just random chaos sometimes and theres nothing u can do..just have to learn 2 accept things. Saw AIC in Manchester UK last week, blew me away..awesome :o)

  • I hear what your sayin....but NO ONE is at fault for their deaths except them...We didnt blow Kurt's head off....HE DID....We didnt force Layne to smoke crack and do the speedball that killed him....that was his choice....and he was mostly out of the public eye by then.....so NO WAY IS any of it the fans fault

  • kurt didn't blow his head off.he had a triple lethal amount of a heaviest heroin addicted person in his system.if one injects that much heroin at once he/she either dies instantly or slips immediately into a coma and dies a few minutes later.but there's certainly no time to take out the needle, put all paraphernalia nicely in a cigar box, roll down the sleeve, close the button and then take a gun and blow one's head off.

  • It may be a lethal dose to someone who does not use heroin but Kurt was a junkie and could handle that amount. It was also Mexican tar heroin so its not even all that strong, I have seen people shoot up over a gram and not die its all about tolerence. A 1/4 gram injected would kill most people that never used.

  • my point exactly my friend

  • ok I hear what your saying...but your wrong....Kurt did commit suicide....you have to understand....Kurt had been shooting heroin for a long time...sure if the regular person injected that much he woul surely keel over...but someone with the tolerance that he had to have had would not....Ive been there...would you believe that at one point i was eating 50 lorcets at a time...well I did....and I didnt OD. because i was on them for a few years. his tolerance was high enough to still function

  • Kurt blew his brains out, no one did him in or gave him a hot shot. He had some health issues, was a junkie and was a big fan of The Germs so he wanted to go out like Darby but the junk tar heroin would not work so he used a shotgun. Do we agree on that?

  • Absolutely.....this assclown pacovI46 has no clue what he is talking about....Ive been a fuckin junkie...and this fucktard thinks he knows more than a junkie would....he's just believing whatever this site tells him...its beyond riiculous

  • what's with the foul language? i've been polite, why can't u? to everyone who thinks i'm wrong please google dead men don't pull triggers. please take the time to read it and ONLY THEN come back to tell me i'm wrong if u still think i am, but stop pretending to know everything just because u've been an addict.

  • heroin turns immediately into morphine after it has been injected. his morphine level per liter blood was 1.52 mg 3 or 4 days after he died. This means that he most likely injected around 2.25 mg. This amounts to a 75x lethal overdose for a "normal" junkie weighing 150 pounds and a 3x lethal OD for a heaviest addicted person. In other words even a "heavyweight champion" junkie would have died on the spot. kurt weighed only 115 and had just left rehab, so his tolerance would've been down anyway.

  • He was in rehab for less than 24 hours and flew back, he did not even kick. Also I hate it when people refrence numbers from the Justice for Kurt website because they make no sense whatsoever. 2.25mg of heroin is nothing and that number assumes a certain purity level. That website states that Mexican Tar heroin is also 96% pure, BULLSHIT! so it is full of half truths and outright lies it becomes painful to read after the first few sentences.

  • u r right, he was in rehab less than 24 hours, so his tolerance was definitely the same. but u r wrong about the 2.25 mg. ask any doctor or google dead men don't pull triggers and read the report. by the way i was wrong about heroin turning immediately into morphine it takes several minutes. nonetheless that much heroin shot up at once will definitely incapacitate a person immediately.

  • sorry i made a mistake. it's 225 mg of heroin per liter blood and not 2.25. and it was 1.52 mg of morphine they found in his system. to get a morphine level of 0.5 one has to inject around 75 to 85 mg of heroin. the 96% purity level of black tar heroin refers most likely to the state it's in b4 it goes through a 1000 hands and gets all cut up. by the way i didn't get my numbers from the justice for kurt site. and 75-85 mg of heroin is the maximum established lethal OD even for severe addicts

  • Generally, a blood morphine level of 0.5mg/L is caused by 75 mg - 80 mg of heroin, the established maximum lethal dose, even for severe addicts. A blood level of 1.52 mg/L generally indicates an original dose of approximately 225 mg - 240 mg of heroin.

  • 225-240mg of heroin is .2 of a gram or a 10 dollar bag of tar. This wont kill most junkies since I have seen them inject close to 2000mg or 2grams and not die.

  • the 225 - 240 mg refer to the actual heroin content found in his body and not to the amount of black tar. and yes, it's no problem for a severe addict to work his way up to 2 grams at once considering the quality and the tolerance, but how much heroin do those 2 grams actually contain? 75 to 80 mg of actual heroin r the maximum established lethal OD even for severe addicts. i rather believe scientists who r experts on the subject matter than u. so, let's just leave it at that.

  • I advise you to go to actual medical websites to look up the amount, you are reading that crap off the Justice for Kurt website which has questionable sources. Not to spoil anything for you will find the lethal amount can vary greatly on a case by case basis and those numbers you keep regurgitating from that website dont mean shit and have no basis on reality. The DEA website has a lot of information on tar heroin and you will find that type of heroin can not be made any purer than 10%

  • 7.) CONCLUSION: HOMICIDE: The evidence indicates that a massive intravenous dose of heroin, and possibly a benzodiazepine, was administered to Cobain. The final of the two known injections incapacitated and/or killed Cobain, and the gunshot is evidence of a homicide staged to look like a suicide. The case should be re-opened by an independent investigatory body.

  • Stop copying and pasting from that stupid website. It's all wrong the numbers dont even make sense. First of all according to the DEA the purest Tar Heroin ever found was 10% not 96% like the website says. Also Procaine is not used to cut Tar Heroin EVER. Last thing is Kurt received Benzos or Diazapam when he was in the drug program for withdrawal. Benzos stay in your system for up to two weeks. I am deleting the posts were you just copy and pasted from that stupid website.

  • Dude you DO NOT know what you are talking about...accept that....I am a recovering junkie I know these things....just because a person is in rehab doesnt mean your tolerance goes down....9 times out of 10 a person keeps there tolerance level...you pick up where you start off....stop believing everything a website tells you....YOU ARE WRONG...get over it ok

  • Um clearly you have never been addicted to opiates, most i know who have died, came from rehab or put down dope. Its not like coke man, your tolerance goes so fucking low in a matter of a week of not using, but it seems for me the only thing I can say to agree with you is I can have a raging habit in a a matter of a five days of using and be back right where i left off in a week or two.

  • Actually I am recovering from a 8 year long battle with opiates....Not everyones tolerance reacts the same way....I was in rehab for 21 days one time...the day i got out i got high and guess what? It took just as much as it did 2 hours before i got to the rehab center...so every bodys body reacts differently

  • you're so cool.

  • I love hearing him laugh at 5:46 X) It also sounds like he keeps playing around with a zippo in the background noise.

  • did that book ever come out??? and if it didnt that really really fucking sucks

  • No, Layne's mom has tons of his writings and demos. Who knows if they'll ever be released.

  • @WeDieYoung1083 wow how did you know this ??

  • @LilLee965 Because who do you think got all his stuff when he passed away? Nancy. She has boxes of stuff.

  • i have dealt with and am still dealing with my own heroin/opiate addiction and i kno how tgh it really fucking is, so i have a lot of sympathy for layne! if many of us had the money at our fingertips that layne did we would have similar endings to him, so we should not be so quick to judge him! he was one of the best singers in rock EVER, his voice is fucking so unique and singers have been trying to steal his style since he started! RIP layne, you will always be missed! new aic is cool tho!

  • It's very depressing to hear about all the things that could have been. To hear another AIC album that would have been released some time around 2000, or to hear his solo work, or to read his book would be amazing. And if he wouldn't have turned down the second round of Mad Season... At least we can be happy for what he gave to us before he passed.

  • I love Layne's "Mad Season" material. It's off the wall, psychedelic, grunge, unique art of a different flavor! Awesome!

  • I would love to hear some solo stuff from layne. I wonder if it will ever be released. Really interesting interview. Thanks for putting it up.

  • Did he ever finish his book?

  • Layne just sounds like he smoked a joint before this interview.

  • lol he probably shot up. anyway i almost cried when i heard this. Layne can naver be replaced. I'm glad Alice is back though

  • or slammed a baloon oh H..

  • Thanks for this interview also.RIP Layne Staley

  • he played the drums in his younger days in a band called sleeze.....

  • rest in peace buddy

  • what ever happened to his solo project are those recordings just sitting in a vault somewhere

  • All that stuff is at Layne's Moms house right now. I know the music is on DATs. I have no idea if it will ever be released but I hope so. Sony did not want anything to do with his solo project.

  • that's weird. i'm glad the band found a new label since they reunited.

  • makes me wanna cry. this guy is my top influence, easily. no contest. alice in chains is the best thing i've heard. Zeppelin n Sabbath be damned, they get second/third place. there's not a single alice in chains song I don't like.

  • i agree with you man. Nothing compares to aic. Not a day goes by that i don't listen to them. rip Layne

  • Thano you for sharing this with us all. what a joy to hear his voice. Today would have been Layne's 42nd b'day and i, just like all of you would love nothing more than to hear his wonderful vocals again.

  • It was such a difference between his singing voice - powerful and raw and this one - soft and delicate. It is so beautiful.

  • heroine

    the damn heroine

    :(

  • Layne was writing a book ... Maybe it will came out in years..

  • I don't think so. Unfortunately :(

  • that would be cool

  • Layne's mother nancy mc callum said that all of the " notes " he wrote were all messed up and not ready at all to make a book , she said it would took a millions of years to put everything together and make it as a book .

  • I heard the same thing you would have to hire a team of people but I bet if done correctly could be made into a book. I am more intrested in seeing the DATs with his solo music and Home VHS Videos he had filmed back in the AIC days that were at his house. I hope those are released.

  • yeah totally agree

  • @rhcpfolies I would want to see all of the notes.

They've done that with some authors, but you may be right about it not being a regular book.

  • I've managed to enter in contact with Adriana Rubio these last days , and when i asked if the " Get Born Again " movie was still active , she said that the movie was still in pre-production and that it's still active .

  • @rhcpfolies fuck that movie and here's why, you need someone like Mike Starr or a close friend that knows what went on back stage/final years, Second Rubio is note a dopefiend she just not understand. If done right the movie could be big. Right now she has a crap script with fabricated story (like Kurt and Layne meeting at the gallery) and a cast that is slowly aging. Layne's life was so amazing nothing needs to be fabricated.

  • @EXPcustom I didn't read adriana's book , so i can't judge her but the movie could be good, i don't think she's the only person who will realise the movie so let's wait and see.

Did you saw the last Celebrity rehab episodes with mike starr ? Nancy's declarations bring me to tears.. it was so emotional ...

  • @rhcpfolies I read and own adriana's book and part of the movie script, adriana had a few things which was Layne's last interview and what she got out of Nancy but thats it. She should not have any part in any movies or further Layne related material unless of course she releases those last tapes. I like Nancy and her message but I have mixed feelings about Mike Starr.
