@ MGM after Liza was born in early '46 Judy had 3 films released that year. I read that when pregnant, Judy got big as a house. "Till The Clouds Roll By" Judy is 5 months preg w/Liza but they hid it well. But after Liza was born Judy who had a weight problem really lost a lot because when she started the Pirate in 1947 she looked very thin. The only recognizable weight gain was in 1950 during Summer Stock. 4 yrs after Liza was born. Judy must've started back to the pills after Liza's birth.
I do think that a duet between the two was warranted for the movie. However, I don't think it should have been this song. They should have had a different song this one would have slowed the progression of the movie.
Tireseome song. Judy sounds fine. But "The Harvey Girls" is already a VERY long movie, and not especially entertaining (except for Angela Lansbury as the town bad girl.) I can see why this was cut. Judy was far better showcased in "The Good Old Summertime." (A number was cut from that, too--"Last Night Wheh We Were Young"--a great song, but it slowed the movie.) Sometimes, cuts are for the good.
Of course this wonderful song should not have been cut. It just doesn't make sense that Judy and John get married at the end of the movie without this song. Ty Ty Michelebell for another YT delight!
Judy's wearing more red lipstick than a Harvey Girl ought to. But looks and sounds terrific. This song and segment are slow as molasses, and wisely cut. Harry Warren, btw, was not a big fan of Judy's, and vice versa.
Parts of the clip/music were really bad quality, so I edited. Definately not pleased about it, but I wanted to share as best I could - even with the editing. I promise to do a reprise if I get the scene intact, good quality.
Aww, thanks for explaining dear. Even though it is a little erratic to watch you still did a good job so kudos to you :). I look forward to watching the full unedited scene if you ever find it :).
On the DVD of 'Harvey Girls' do they have this number as a special feature? On 'Meet Me In St. Louis' and 'Easter Parade' they have lovely special features. 'Meet Me In St. Louis' has an introduction by Liza Minnelli that's a treat to watch :).

Reply | Remove The complete number without edits is on the dvd release along with two other cuts of "March of the Doagies." It's good of you to post this to wet the appetites of Judy fans to find the whole thing and to purchase the film.
Just lovely! Thank you for the posting! Gorgeous scenery too! I was intrigued by the comment that the area was "then-barren". Does that mean it's all built up now? Has it been turned into suburbia?
Great find! I often puzzle over why some of these wonderful numbers end up on the cutting room floor. And to think that 'Over the Rainbow' almost suffered the same fate... that's scary as hell! :-(
It was a mistake to cut this song.

@djsrob John had a really nice voice. I would be curious to know if he sang in any other movie. I loved him in The Harvey Girls. :-)

Judy is marvellous as always :). What is with the turning pages though? Did they repeat the song or something like they did with 'Mr. Monotony'?

Judy had such patience when she had to redo scenes. She was always calm, I would have cracked and walked away lol.

This landscape is still out there on the north side of the 118 freeway. A lot of westerns were filmed there too back in the day.
