@Momcil Well my childhood wasn't very good at all when I think about it, but I love this song, it always touches my soul in ways I dare not to explain in words...
Tusk was kind of a convoluted album because of all the friction in the band at the time and because Lindsey wanted to stretch his wings and experiment musically a bit. But still there is some fabulous music on that album, this song being my favorite of all of them.
The only woman I've ever seen to carry the title of "legend" with such grace and she deserves it. I hope she lives to be 110. She speaks to all generations and makes me get chills every time she sings.
It's taken me forever & a day to find your videos. I'm 1 of the biggest Mac fans ever and I love Stevie with all my heart. Her vocals in this song are stunning. It's a haunting song. I think the lyrics spell out pretty clearly what it's about.
About 30 minutes ago someone told me FM is talking about touring again. I hope so. It's what made me come to Youtube to look them up. A tour in 2012 would be awesome. Their last tour was a resounding success.
wow...that song was beautiful...I got to listen to it for another 10 times to get the meaning but music is much like art/abstract...your own experiences reveal the meaning, your meaning that is..
I remember crying my eyes out to sleep one night awhile back because a guy had lost all feelings for me and i was drawn to him like a child is to a new toy....the whole time this song was on replay.....
I sing this song to my baby nephew when he can't sleep, and he always falls asleep after, now don't get me wrong I sound like a cat that's being strangled in a dark alley but still he manages to fall asleep.
fleetwood mac has been my absolute favorite for over 34 years, and they still manage to astound me at their volume of work. you couldn't find a more beautiful song anywhere, except maybe on another fleetwood mac album!!!
@prober45 ~ lol! actually just 1 person. The other "dislikes" EVERY video I make. Seriously. Somebody has nothing better to do than make sure all my vids have 1 dislike. Kinda nasty. So I think its more that they dont like me~not Stevie.
There will never be music like this again because the primary motivation now is money. Bands and artists in those days played for the love of the music, and most never made it big. In today's "American Idol" world, image and flash are all that really matters. If you're not a terrible singer, you can make it based on your show. Thank God I was there before the music industry sold out.
I dont get why people compare Rumours and Tusk. They are two completely different albums. I think thats the thing I love most about Fleetwood Mac. @ErinLindsay13 Unbelievable band...such a mix of talent...not afraid to take chances and express their inner emotions...one of my 2 fav bands, along with U2...
Beautiful montage! Great work for a great song. Stevie is such an iconic artist. I hope my generation will be able to produce an artist that compares to her amazing tone and songwriting. A 21st century Fleetwood Mac-esque band is much needed.
@acer750 ~Thanks! Stevie is so original and talented AND a HARD WORKER. So many songs and shows and appearances to promote. Her energy seems endless. Your generation and those to follow have your work cut out for you. Shes a tough act to follow! :)
@GotDemKozmicBlues I totally agree. The five songs on Tusk that Stevie wrote are the best she has EVER recorded. And Beautiful Child is (with Sara) Stevie's masterpiece! What an amazingly beautiful and haunting song. Loved it from the second I heard it. Those vocals are just supreme! Lindsey and Chris also add so much to this song. For me, Stevie hit her pinnacle as a songwriter and singer on Tusk. She's come close, but never reached the zenith she reached on this song and on Tusk.
I heard this song for the first time on the live in Boston dvd and it struck me. This is such a beautiful song. Stevie has written many beautiful songs like: gypsy, dreams, landslide, silver springs, sara etc. but I think this might be my favorite.
@WatchYourAttitude I too first heard this song during the Boston concert. And immediately I connected with this song. Just the way Stevie sings it, I can feel the emotion behind it. One of my favorite Fleetwood Mac songs.
One of Stevie Nicks' finest vocals; she is one of the few famous musical stars who is underrated despite her fame and success. If she were male, we'd say genius, icon. She gives and grieves for all of us, the most evocative, provocative American of the past 40 years.
in n particular order my top five female singers would be stevie nicks, karen carpenter, alanis morrisette, joni mitchell and recently rumer. all in their own way make the hairs on my head stand. stevie takes me to places in my imagination that are wonderous. go girl.
Its obviously about a guy. If you listen to the words shes talking about being in love with a difficult guy. Hes immature and doesn't know what he wants, thats why she says beautiful child.
What I love about Fleetwood Mac is the fact that, although every single line of lyric doesn't make sense to me, together the words fit together to create a greater image in the mind. This song is a reflection of the beauty and timeless nature of love, how it is the pen that writes the story of our lives, even when it writes in blood and tears; and it is a warning from someone wiser than myself: love now, love deeply, because "there is so little time!"
i am only eleven and since i was six have been in love with macaulay culkin but i was in love with him as a kid around my age and he is constantly with someone else so i know i can never hold him but im old enough to love him and i love him too much to let him go..i want him to take me away but i know i have to stay he is my beautiful child because he had such innocence as a child and now is making mistakes but still a great person i will always love you :)relating to every word in my own way
this song reminds me of my father, rest in peace. i miss you everyday and will never forget the rules of this awful world you taught me. i am strong, pops.
This song remined me of my ex boyfriend, who was alot older than me when we got together, i know most people think of there children, but i dunno i see another darker meaning! dont know if anyone else reads it the same way as me!
@ToriT i know exactly what you mean. i would be very surprised if it was about someone's own child. the lyrics don't suggest that meaning. the lyrics are about an older man and younger woman. eg. you are beautiful child and i am a fool once more. too trusting yes but women usually are. i wish that you were mine even if i never hold you etc.
@ToriT - I dont think shes ever explained this one...especially the line "You fell in love when I was only 10" I could be wrong...I would LOVE to hear her talk about this one...this is FM top 5 fo sho
@ToriT agreed. i don't think its about someones child. i think its about a relationship gone bad ... : ( poor stevie, i think mick fleetwood hurt her ...
@ToriT That's exactly the kind of thing this makes me think of, too. I always find the 'darker' meaning in all of her songs - a lot of things people don't pick up if they haven't gone through it themselves.
I've listened to Stevie all 22 years of my life and to me this song is about growing older and time slipping away from you, not knowing if you'll ever fall in love again... or if you'll ever be able to cope with a lost love.
Oh Stevie, my mother of music... you will never grow old in my heart. Your songs have touched me to the core and helped me through the most difficult times in my life, and to that I owe you all the love and respect in the world.
@grubor1962 I have listened to Fleetwood Mac and Stevie since the '70's but I've never heard this song. It's so tender and powerful at the same time. But the line you mentioned "Your hand felt mine so few hours.." My tears started to pour. I lost my bestfriend/hubby when he was only 40. It was sudden and unexpected and he died in my arms while I tried to save him. We were married 11 years and to me, that was just " So few hours". I will never hold him again or get over him.
This song is amazing <3! If you love Stevie Nicks like I do, go on to Facebook and Like the page "Get Stevie Nicks on Oprah: The Farewell Season", or write to Oprah via email requesting it, and spred the news about it! Come on, let's get our Idol on Oprah!
@BianchiMedia Tusk came out my junior year of high school. Got the 8-track as soon as I could scrape up enough money ( about $5 or so if I remember correctly ). I was so sick of hearing Kool & the Gang, The Bee Gees and Michael Jackson. Among others (especially Heart) Fleetwood Mac gave me music and saved my sanity.
"I'm tall enough to reach for the stars. I'm old enough to love you from afar." An arrow to the heart of those of us sending kids off to college. I JUST ADORE STEVIE. Can't wait to see her live tomorrow!!!
beautiful song. ty..especially poignant as the kids head off to college. Looking forward to experiencing Stevie live tomorrow. "I'm tall enough to reach for the stars, I'm old enough to love you from afar"....arrow to my heart....
I play this song when I`m feeling kind of down... It doesn`t make it better, it makes me feel like, it`s okay to be down because you`ll get up again anyway.
Stevie Nicks is the best female singer in my eyes because unlike everybody in the music industry today she does not do what she does best for the money she does it because she found her blessing through singing
and i....i cant listen to this song without crying my eyes out ="(
One of my favorite Fleetwood Mac songs -- I was lucky enough to see them perform it live at the Staples Center in 2004. Stevie did it so beautifully -- I'm so glad I had the chance to witness that. The "Say You Will" tour was insanely great. Hopefully they will tour again soon -- I'm itching to see FM live again.
i finally got to see fleetwood mac last year - a real dream come true. stevies music helped me to cope with a horrible divorce and all the helpless emotions that go with losing someone you love. thank you stevie. and thanks for posting this.

At the end of your life, you will never regret not having done something with your life. Thanks Stevie for sharing your gift with the world.

Hopefully they will tour again soon -- I'm itching to see FM live again.

i finally got to see fleetwood mac last year - a real dream come true. stevies music helped me to cope with a horrible divorce and all the helpless emotions that go with losing someone you love. thank you stevie. and thanks for posting this.

to realise that she wrote at least three songs better than this - Sara, Storms, Silver Springs - is mind-boggling.
