  • MiStaVP05, I agree. The push pull method is the best way and you don't have to clean it off by hand every time.

And $50 for a thatching rake? You can get them for $25 to $35 locally.

  • Best time to thatch? Spring? Fall?

  • I just bought that exact de-thatching rake today at Lowes for $24.99

  • vigoro (maker of thatch rakes) advises using a push-pull motion, not just pulling it toward you every time...

  • Make sure you avoid moist/wet areas, when using a rake or machine to pull thatch out of the lawn. The soil needs to be dry in order to pull the dead grass away. If its wet, the rake will dig in and pull clumps of your grass out! And if you happen to be using a machine, well you can tear a 10 foot rectangle out of your lawn before you're able to stop it. Learned this through experience.

  • he said de-thatching, at the end. lol
