I think it's the ultimate misdirection. People will automatically assume that SHE is the assistant, and the guy is the magician. Not the other way around! To which I say: Excellent! Delightfully innovative!

If she is a magician, why does she further the stereotype of the male magician/female assistant? SHE should be the one performing the illusions and the man should be the victim. She sets the females of the magic world back at least 100 years.

If she goes in the box it doesn't mean she is the assistant. Many times the one who goes in the box does all the work anyway. Several great magicians magicians have done illusions on themselves: Coppefield, Wayne Dobson, Kevin James etc.
