Fantastic result. The Bahrain side made a HUGE mistake in basing themselves in Sydney for the build-up. Sydney & Wellington's climate are poles apart. They also just didn't fight for it. I guess NZ were supposed to rollover? Wrong!
As for the naysayers. Get bent. Pound for pound, NZ is a great sporting nation. Sure the WC will be tough, but it'll help build the game in NZ and who knows where it might take us in the long run? There's certainly a few sports where we know how to beat the world.

I grew up in Gizzy in '70s NZ soccer captain was Alan Vest, we had John Hill, Buzzer MacKay, Colin Walker, Grant Turner, Fallon, and others. We'd play rugby Sat'day watch Gisborne City Sundays - memories. Loved it. All the rugby supporters would yell "C'mon blue eeeee. . ." all the soccer supporters "C'mon citeeee. . . ." lol. Well done All Whites. Brilliant. Wynton Rufer's mum also from up Gizzy way from a place called Waipiro Bay. Rory's mum also an East Coast Maori. Exciting times.

Congratulations to New Zealand. This is a massive achievement. To beat a team like Bahrain that has tens of millions of dollars at its disposal while your own national federation is struggling financially cant be underestimated. Regardless of what New Zealand achieves in its groups games in South Africa,the money from qualifying for the World Cup will help develop a whole new generation of players. Maybe now you will be a little less obsessed with Rugby Union and embrace the "World Game".

Bahrain is cheap. they think they can buy everything with money. almost half the team of bahrain that played against NZ was non-bahraini.
they gave lots of money to foreigners to represent their weak country
1- jayce john is nigerian
2- fatai is nigerian
3- omar is from some shithole in africa
4- fawzy ayesh is morrocan
that's almost 50% of their team .

I was living in Singapore when the All Whites won against China to go thru to the last World Cup. What a day (and what a night!!!!). That was great being in a bunch of 500 Kiwis against pretty much 30000 Singaporeans wanting China to win. That was a highlight of my life being there. I couldn't be there for this one, but wow, what a buzz. I saw some of the All Whites come back from Bahrain a month or so ago. They were confident then. So proud of you guys

They've only entered the world cup and they react as if they've became wc champions. This is So cool. Im Korean and since Korea is located in Asia, advancing to world cup doesn't seem so diffidcult. But for all other countries, it's like another war they have to go through.

Fantastic result. The Bahrain side made a HUGE mistake in basing themselves in Sydney for the build-up. Sydney & Wellington's climate are poles apart. They also just didn't fight for it. I guess NZ were supposed to rollover? Wrong!
As for the naysayers. Get bent. Pound for pound, NZ is a great sporting nation. Sure the WC will be tough, but it'll help build the game in NZ and who knows where it might take us in the long run? There's certainly a few sports where we know how to beat the world.

you can not deny that NZ deserved to beat Bahrain. Yes, it was a match that could have gone either way. Both are small nations, perhaps both deserve to be there. But at the end of the day New Zealand have beaten Bahrain, and it seems to me that they couldn't quite get it together on the day.

Thanx for the memories! Wynton is still idolized in Bremen, awesome player and a great guy. Together with Allofs(Werder Bremen's manager now) they were the fear of every defence. i remember one of the best games from Wynton. It was the European Cup Winners' Cup. They won 2:0 against Monaco, Rufer scored the one goal, he was unstopable this evening. For me he's between the 100 best of all times. Wish the best for the All Whites in summer 2010. DO THE HAKA :)
