You compare this music to the garbage that is being played today, and you see that even though our technology today is light years ahead of what we had back then, our society has morally regressed.
I actually got to meet these guys at the local venue my father frequented as a kid in my home state, heard this and then heard it again recently in a rap song with it as the hook and chorus, it is a deep song about his family and decent of jewish heritage, and how his grandfather would bang on his piano n bellow his soul, it is AWESOMe
This stereo sounds AWESOME!! What make is it?? Looks like possibly a VM changer? But it has a MAGNETIC cartridge?? Do the lights go to the music if you adjust it??
ok all you old timers, Quit dissing today's music. i used to watch Lawrence Welk with my great aunt when i was 6. I couldn't understand why she loved it so much. Everything is relative. the teens now are going to look back in 30 years at Lady Gaga, Kings of Leon, Just Beeber, and think how great that was.
@dinkeedee ok u need to shut up. you DO NOT compare kings of leon with lady gaga and justin bieber! k.o.l. is real, good music unlike that other crap. kings of leon is about the only band that is mainstream thats actually good. other than that, these 'old timers' have every right to 'diss' today's music. i would say today's music sucks, but i cant say that because it isn't even music.
The part that is just TOO cool is where the lead (Ithink it's Chuck Negron, yes?) "accidentally" falls off the mike in the middle of the chorus "Just....fashioned love song". It *sounds* accidental..but seeing as how it's done all the way to the fade..I think otherwise.
An ALL-TIME UBER-MEGA-ULTRA RAVE-FAVE of mine, m8's.
To us old (but good) ones, the scratchiness just brings back the memories of the 45's and at the time the state of art technology "cassettes". Luv it, a step back in time....
I wish my 2-year-old Samsung CD/DVD player was as reliable as this unit! This spinny thing plays the WHOLE song without even stopping ONCE. Is this normal for spinny technology? Is that a vacuum cleaner that pulls the music off that black thing, whatever that is? Freaky-looking, but it works better than Samsung.
@manzanadecoco LOLOL! I'm laughing so hard I'm about to pee my pants! :)P...Sam-Sung_A_Song & it wasn't very pretty!...Sam-Sung_a_song & in fact i'twas sorta shitty! Yeah...modern, digital JUNK doesn't hold a candle to these great ol' "spinnies"!! I have over 70,000 of these lil black "cd's" & would rather put up with a click & pop here & there & still be able to hear the WHOLE song, rather than erroring out over a stupid fingerprint like junk cd's. GO VINYL! THROW AWAY JUNK CD'S!~0
Actually that's a Wurlitzer electric piano through a leslie 950 (tall boy). In fact, at this time, the band was all playing through leslies, guitar bass and keys.
They will be here in Cali, I grew up with older brothers listened to all kinds of music, my brothers are in their late 40s and early 50s. As there younger sister I fell in love with their music and didn't even know it.
I recall as wel that the song ended with barbershop harmony .This sounds like the version from my 20th century masters cd. I miss the barbershop ending
Yes the 45 Dunhill version (with the whistling break and fuzzy guitar ending) is the way dj's played it on AM radio in 1971 72. When FM oldies stations came into 21 years ago they had access only to CD librarys that mainly took the album masters not 45 single masters and thats all we heard for the last 20+ years, so we forgot how they originally sounded. Unless you are a single edit hound or an old top 40 dj, you wouldn't have noticed. So goes for Beatle 45's those mixes havnt been heard in 40+
(continued) monophonically created/ mixed/ released until FM Stereo radio had proved itself. Stereo versions of songs, whether singles or not, were crappily engineered; at night, in the case of Motown. What's heard on radio today is all stereo: some good, some bad. Hope this clears your confusion.
"The ending seems different from the version played on the radio." I've educated myself on this issue; the 1971 45 WAS the version played on the radio until AM radio's relegation to sports/talk/religious/ethnic programming, etc. I learned that, until FM radio by the mid1970s won its battle to become THE music-carrying submedium,diskeries/artists worked very closely to create what were "hot mono mixes" to overcome AM's limitations. Most singles, whether played on radio or not, were (continued)
On the radio they usually liked songs to be less than 3 minutes, so they probably cut the ending for that version.

I love watching the old player drop that 45. I watch the slightly warped turntable lift that handle up in perfect timing. Nostalgic! Thanks for this!
