2) "small bikes [...] the tire is too narrow": A 600cc Honda Hornet from 2001 has the EXACT same tire as a Honda Fireblade 1100XX from the same year, trust me.

@pantalon3s Nah, you haven't been rude, true. But I still don't agree with what you're saying. A heavier bike has more contact with the floor? How so? @PIGpatrol007 That toilet bowl will most likely be around for another 50 years AND still be roadworthy, Can't say the same about japanese bikes. I'm not saying anything bad about jap bikes, they are awsome bikes, BUT, one is a cruiser and the Honda is a sport bike. BIG DIFFERENCE.
@surrynet I have to laugh at that one -- Out of the 8 hardley Abelsons I own - You cannot count on any of them to go from here to Alabama without something breaking - and that includes my 05 V-rod.... The only reason one of those toilet bowls will be around in another 50 years is stupidity on the part of the owner for tolerating poorly machined junk that long
@dawino6260 I have 2 repeat 2 Harleys right now. Both are the evo engines, and both have over 70,000 miles on them. I have rode both of them at one time or other to Arizona, Florida, New York, AND Alaska, I never had to have anything major done to either. Just routine service work done. I have several friends that have Knuckle heads, and PanHeads, that were rebuilt with todays new parts and gaskets. Those bikes are just as dependable as the new evo's.
@surrynet I take care of them -Problem is They dont take care of me - Mile for mile it costs me 3x the money to keep my Hardley Abelsons "maintained" - and I turn my own wrenches - average about 50k miles a year and ALL my vehicles are 2 wheeled. The only American bikes in my collection I can go anywhere and not be worried about anything worse than where am I going to change my oil are my Indian and my Boss Hoss
@dawino6260 Both are great bikes, I just never had a days trouble with any of my evos, other than normal maint. The biggest thing that happened to both bikes was I replaced the starter in both bikes, 1 at 61,000 and the other at 76,000. What I was getting to about any Harley was is can be rebuilt more times than a jap bike. I have a friend that has a flat head 45, that was rebuilt 5 times, using the same cylinders and heads. Jap bike can't be done.
@surrynet That's an unfair statement -- Most folks dont know you can re-sleeve most jap bikes - including Goldwings - My Red CB900 made 315k and just recently got new JUGS, rebuilt head, cam.. etc -- That one you can rebuild as many times as you like - but say a vf700 has to be resleeved as does a VTR1000. CB750-1100 just pop on new jugs - my red cb900 just got punched to 10 over for the first time at 315k miles without buying new jugs first rebuild on that engine
@dawino6260 I stand corrected, guess I was just used to when my jap bikes got alot of miles I just got rid of them. I'll have to think different now. Guess I was just stuck in my old ways, LOL. Once again thanks for the info.
@surrynet That's allright - your "old ways" are the reason I've got so many classic bikes over the years for next to nothing - i'm doing a 64 305 dream and a 72 Rickmann right now. and a very rare pre-EPA ban V-max (mfd Dec. 1984) that I've had sitting around since the 80's
@dawino6260 I used to have a 1965 305 SuperHawk, Wish I still had it now. Had many good times on that bike. Also had an early model Bridgestone 90, . I think we are giving away our age, lol !!!
@surrynet - By the way - one of my goldwins also made it past 300k - with that kind of longevity I dont mind spending 500 bucks on a set of new cylinder sleeves vs. 400 bucks to have a set of jugs bored out - You CAN rebuild MOST (keyword = most) jap bikes as many times as you like - bit more money but thankfully you dont have to do it as often - I just re-did the victory V92 with a titanium trans and a bigger oil cooler - still overheats pulling my parts getter trailer same problem as my FLH
@surrynet My V92 is on its 3rd transmission in 12,000 miles - common for all the first year V92's though - the good Victories are from 02 up but avoid the Vision from 08 up (too much stuff to go wrong - the less that can go wrong the less that will go wrong)... I had an 8 ball for a while but I gave it to my daughters ex boyfriend - never had a lick of trouble out of that one other than the fuel injection went out at 14k miles
@dawino6260 if that's true then you obviously don't take care of them, my 97 i repeat 97 Sportster 1200 has almost 135k and has never had a problem, never had the motor torn down for any reason, never broke down, and never leaked a drop of oil, also my 2005 Road King has almost 89k and same thing, no problems, I've been all over the country on both
Also....true, a 100cc bike is usually quite light in weight, but a Hornet only weighs 167kg or so...and that's a light bike. A V-max weighs 260+kg....that's a hell of a lot...and way to much for someone who has been riding a 100cc bike....What bike do you ride btw?You seem to provide a lot guidelines, but what experience do you have?
@deromegadrei as of today i have had over 20 bikes, right now i have a victory cross country(106ci)and it is prety heave its over 300 kilos, but it is kinda nonresponsive below 20 miles an hour, i'll give you that, but over 20 it drives really smooth and powerful, around 80 mph or faster bout 100mph it feels completly safe, stabe and very responsive, lots of traction front wheel is 130/70-18 and back wheel is 180/ 60-16, very grippy..what bike or bikes do you often drive?
@pantalon3s I've had all kinds of bikes. From 100cc 4 strokers to 400cc Honda CBR's RR's. The last bikes I rode were a Honda CB600F Hornet, and just a few months ago i picked up my Honda CB1100 SF1, also known as the X-11, which I don't believe they sell in the states. It's pretty much a stripped Honda Blackbird with more torque and slightly less hp. i have a few vids on my profile of the Hornet and X-11 if you want, i totally recommend the X-11, ride it if you get the chance!!!
@deromegadrei i'll try, even though here in the states they dont sell the x-11, nice bikes, its always good sharing points of view with other bikers, ride safe mate...cheers
If anyone wants to see a great video of how a V Max should be raced and launched, type "Warren Racing's V Max" in the search field. No quotations of course.
@robociock a friend of mine owned this Honda and whenever we started from 0 till 120mph he was in the mirrors of my Vmax. Ok, at 120+ he dissapeared. But till 120 I was faster.
@Vmaxjorge I had a 92 Vmax and was able to beat or stay even with R1's and ZX9's through about 110mph also...Vmaxes, when tuned correctly are competitive with almost any bike, at least to 100mph
Ha ha ha ya sure ya did buddy...stop racing noobs..I like to fuck with people like you on the street, but my favourite is ricer cagers... 15% on the throttle ,clutchless short shifting at 4k with my left hand on my knee... and just watch you give it all its got while I laugh behind my tinted shield....
lol wow I bet all the douche bag 929 riders who see this are thinking that their bikes are actually faster than a Vmax. I guess they will have to find out the hard way that stock to stock Mr. Max owns the 929.
Wow, can't believe they let you on the track wearing jeans and trainers. In England you have to be wearing a full leather suit before they even let you near a track.
I've got a 929 so I know it takes some skill to get the most out of it, it's made for going round bends not straight lines. Unlike that lardy V-MAX it has a much lighter front end so it's a lot harder to keep it down.
MAX is a MAx.. not all cruiserscan run side by side with a racer. imagine the size, weight, the aerodynamics of the vmax against this honda. but the vmax came too close to beating it. not bad isnt it? but I still love hte Y2K. hehehe my dream bike! only if it was cheap ill get one of those ryt now.
I read the comments below & would like to share some thoughts...
Gentlemen, we ride. It's in us, it's who we are. The machine we choose reflects how we prefer to merge our nervous systems with the road. Some of us like our butts and chins parallel to the road, some perpendicular. Sportbike, cruiser, tourer... doesn't matter, my friends. We are all brothers of the road; enjoy the ride. That said, a last thought: Isn't it cool how sportbikers test their metal against a cruiser? Max is legendary
@oldjunkvet That's about 1.3 seconds slower than the average on the GenII rockets. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that Jay is either a novice rider or slightly overweight.
WTF! back in the day the king of sportbikes where the CBR900RR . THEN IT WAS the ZX11 and the SUPER BLACK BIRD!!!!not a vmax...vmax are good but there not all what some of you / these guys make it out to be , if there so good you would see more vmax's at the track then GSXR CBR R1, R6s ZX-R and other street and sport bikes.
vmax is not a sportbike, and therefor you dont see it on the tracks u dumbass. u dont see dragbikes set the best lap times around tracks just because they are the "fastest". vmax is fast straight ahead just because it has more hp and torque than the other bikes!
wow wtf r u talking about, have you read the other comments?laps? were all talking about drag racing and if im correct the v-max is a street bike get out of here no stock v-max will out run the cbr900 . and dumbass?and when i say sport bikes i mean general street bikes sport bikes sport tourer. also "vmax is not a sportbike, and there for you dont see it on the tracks u dumbass" dumbass? your the dumbass not only sportbikes drag racing bitch in the motorcyle world .
Hi, Just to enlighten you a little bit. The Vmax in my eye's is an old man's bike but that said it does 0-100Kph in less than 2.3sec. Which i might add is faster than a 90/91 FZR100 exup. Off the line it very quick...
what are trying to say. CBR900RR basically was the blueprint of sportbikes believe it or not an was considered the king even after the zx11 Came out. it was the first light wieght bik with power. the first bike to beat the GP900Z which top out at 150mph the first CBR900 top out at 170ish CLOCKIng high 10s in the 1/4mile...until the CBR1100XX came out the fireblade kept that title ,was ahead of its time. i dont know much about a Max but i know its not as fast as a Blade
@barcode0954 lol u r so right i caught a cocky ass dude one night on a max with head work and cam's he told me he was bird hunting so i put my 2000 cbr blackbird right next to him told him to go and well when i hit second gear he went behind me and faded real quick and all i had was 2 teeth up! in back power commander and exhaust and the know how to ride! now she has 12lbs of boost threw velocity turbo system! but i do like maxes when i want to ride slower
9.69 was with Jay Gleason aboard, a slick, 4-1 kerker, jet kit and a wheelie bar. The article was "Taking it to the Nines". Stock it was in the 9.9's.
98ZJK, yes, old. If "its only 8yrs old adn atleast its fuel injected", then that is pretty darn old in Japanese motorcycle years. Technology is passing these two squids by, and passing them fast. I've ridden a first generation V-Max, and also a 929, they are very slow by today's standards. They however, are venerable motorcycles, and will run for many years more, but they are quite out of date. Sorry to burst your bubble! Eight years old, is damn old.
i have a 99 hayabusa, and all i need to complete my dream is a 1985 v-max where the ORIGINAL real power was!
i will bet though that a better rider on the 1985 vmax will prolly beat me on my busa to a 1/4 mile, cause i am do NOT wanna flip my busa lol, i am not pro nuff yet, my busa scares the CRAP outa me! 1st gear is almost useless, all that torque spins the tires, in all fairness i need better tires too, i have some cheapo brand on atm... :{~ no job right now, so...
why does that 929 sound like that? lol..i have owned several 929's over the years and none have sounded that horrible!

I guess, Just the wheelie and having to cut acceleration should have disqualified the Honda if the V-Max had started properly.....

CBR 929,170 kilos ,1000cc-152PS - V 260 kilos ,145PS -1200cc V max the numbers and video say everything no comments.
foggy0511 1 year ago
Wow, can't believe they let you on the track wearing jeans and trainers. In England you have to be wearing a full leather suit before they even let you near a track.
I've got a 929 so I know it takes some skill to get the most out of it, it's made for going round bends not straight lines. Unlike that lardy V-MAX it has a much lighter front end so it's a lot harder to keep it down.

MAD-MAX is the Devils choice of Bikes
Seawitch06 2 years ago
MAX is a MAx.. not all cruiserscan run side by side with a racer. imagine the size, weight, the aerodynamics of the vmax against this honda. but the vmax came too close to beating it. not bad isnt it? but I still love hte Y2K. hehehe my dream bike! only if it was cheap ill get one of those ryt now.
deswit125 2 years ago
I'm pretty sure he didn't choose to race the v-max..i'm pretty sure it all depends on how they stage

DayspringWarrior 2 years ago
Jay Gleason ran a 10:33 at 133mph on the V-max, just so you guys know.
oldjunkvet 2 years ago
@oldjunkvet That's about 1.3 seconds slower than the average on the GenII rockets. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that Jay is either a novice rider or slightly overweight.

WTF! back in the day the king of sportbikes where the CBR900RR . THEN IT WAS the ZX11 and the SUPER BLACK BIRD!!!!not a vmax...vmax are good but there not all what some of you / these guys make it out to be , if there so good you would see more vmax's at the track then GSXR CBR R1, R6s ZX-R and other street and sport bikes.
barcode0954 2 years ago
vmax is not a sportbike, and therefor you dont see it on the tracks u dumbass. u dont see dragbikes set the best lap times around tracks just because they are the "fastest". vmax is fast straight ahead just because it has more hp and torque than the other bikes!
Snopphooy 2 years ago
wow wtf r u talking about, have you read the other comments?laps? were all talking about drag racing and if im correct the v-max is a street bike get out of here no stock v-max will out run the cbr900 . and dumbass?and when i say sport bikes i mean general street bikes sport bikes sport tourer. also "vmax is not a sportbike, and there for you dont see it on the tracks u dumbass" dumbass? your the dumbass not only sportbikes drag racing bitch in the motorcyle world .
barcode0954 2 years ago
Hi, Just to enlighten you a little bit. The Vmax in my eye's is an old man's bike but that said it does 0-100Kph in less than 2.3sec. Which i might add is faster than a 90/91 FZR100 exup. Off the line it very quick...
deanjfk 2 years ago
because even an old vmax brings 5k
sa11977 2 years ago
what are trying to say.

@barcode0954 Your crazy! Vmax is the fastest in a straight line.

Hey Georgenfla......
The 1st gen V-max WAS the meanest. The 1986 had a stock 1/4 mile time of 9.69. Beat that!
00LarryWilliams00 2 years ago
Bullshit. That's not stock then. Pee Wee Gleason only ran mid-10s on it. You're a full second faster than Jay Gleason? Get real.
C420sailor 2 years ago
9.69 was with Jay Gleason aboard, a slick, 4-1 kerker, jet kit and a wheelie bar. The article was "Taking it to the Nines". Stock it was in the 9.9's.
jagalvin 2 years ago
stock?? uhhh no

Georgenfla 2 years ago
Thats the old Vmax, not the new one. But then again its an old 929 also.
Georgenfla 3 years ago
old 929? its only 8yrs old adn atleast its fuel injected.
98ZJKE28 2 years ago
From what I noticed busa's ridden by 1. Drag racers, which is fine, or 2. squids.

I had a 91 vmax, my 09 will be here in a few days, I cant wait.
BiffBallbag 3 years ago
i have a 99 hayabusa, and all i need to complete my dream is a 1985 v-max where the ORIGINAL real power was!
i will bet though that a better rider on the 1985 vmax will prolly beat me on my busa to a 1/4 mile, cause i am do NOT wanna flip my busa lol, i am not pro nuff yet, my busa scares the CRAP outa me! 1st gear is almost useless, all that torque spins the tires, in all fairness i need better tires too, i have some cheapo brand on atm... :{~ no job right now, so...
