@AngelzOfKaos the name "senses fail" has nothing to do with being agnostic or atheist. Its just like "NIrvana" sometimes to feel whole, or real or to get to the state of "Nirvana" you have to let all of your "senses fail".
I thought they still had religion in a lot of his songs; a lot of Still Searching seems pretty specifically religious (such as rapture and the mention of confessiosn in Calling all Cars), but really, I think some of these songs have a few connotations.
@poppers3 Yeah he is, why do you give a fuck? He's not writing songs for you, he's writing songs for people to relate to and there's a lot of people do don't believe in Jesus or have turned away from him.
@poppers3 Well...not in this song, this is just him lashing out at his father for how he treated him and his mom. If you listened to Still Searching, the songs The Rapture, Every Day is a Struggle, Can't Be Saved, and The Priest and the Matador are him attacking religion. If that bothers you, don't listen to that album.
I'm listening this song for the first time and I'm crying , the lirycs, the music , the message everything is perfect for me! this song totally express the feelings I have about my dad, I LOVE SENSES FAIL and I always will
This song is not about Jesus, he says with rage, "Jesus Christ", because he is referring to his father and how badly his father fucked up his childhood
god. ive listened to a few songs on their new album & some are pretty amazing, but this one hit me really hard. its perfectly described about my mom & what shes done to me. great fckn song. amazing album. if you dont like it, jump off a bridge & learn what REAL music is..
If you don't get goosebumps with every song to this album, you should just turn it off and listen to something else. no band can touch every heart string like buddy can, it's a shame people are too busy knocking the albums after Let It Enfold You to realize how amazing each one has been.
@EKTIonCharge That's the first thing I thought, I came to youtube to see if anyone had commented on that and you had. Those first few seconds I thought they were going to redo it...
@dalisapprentance Buddhism is more of a philosophy than it is a religion. Also Buddhists do not mention a 'God', therefore the Philosophy of Buddhism is intertwined with Atheism. And yes, the name is from what must happen for one to achieve nirvana.
@shamfyre Buddhism is more of a philosophy than it is a religion. Also Buddhists do not mention a 'God', therefore the Philosophy of Buddhism is intertwined with Atheism. And yes, the name is from what must happen for one to achieve nirvana.
1. Senses fail actually come from a term in a religion I can't recall at the moment but it means that you must rid all of you senses to feel the highest power of god with no distractions... He may be atheist but Idk if "Senses Fail" should be your proof for that..
@abashore17 Buddhism is more of a philosophy than it is a religion. Also Buddhists do not mention a 'God', therefore the Philosophy of Buddhism is intertwined with Atheism. And yes, the name is from what must happen for one to achieve nirvana.
@AngelzOfKaos Well which one is it then? If you know him so well why are you saying he's one of two very different philosophies (atheism and agnosticism)?
@JOSHroolzd00d well, its a fact that he hates christanity. he follows up on eastern religions like budda and shit like that. but hes probaly an athiest. and im sorry i spell so bad. haha
Best album ; and I love songs that come from a deep feeling... Like if this song is about his dad , or Jesus, no matter what it's got a powerful feeling and meaning ; That what's makes this song great!!!!!!!!
I'm pretty sure he is actually talking about his dad. Another internal struggle Buddy has. Maybe you're right tho, it could be more metaphoric for lack of faith.
I'm pretty sure he is actually talking about his dad. Another internal struggle Buddy has. Maybe you're right tho, it could be more metaphoric for lack of faith.
@AcrossTh3Universe I never thought of that! Now listening to it again in that context it does still make sense. "What do I get for being your son? Nothing!" I interpreted that in the context of us being "Jesus' sons." And yelling the quoted line I gave before "Jesus Christ" could easily be more a statement of shock than it is calling out Jesus. Very interesting. Thanks for the input! I still greatly respect the lyrical prowess in this song
I thought it might have been about his father as well, but the part where he says "it' s my only choice, because you'll never come" makes me wonder if he is speaking to Jesus or not. But he does clearly have problems with his father, so i don't know! and i think buddy probably made it that way on purpose!
@GottaPlayWarhammer I think him saying he'll never come is because his father abandoned his family while buddy was young (basing this on the context of the rest of the song as well as other SF songs), so he is calling his father out and talking about the abandonment issues and how he has to forgive or forget and either way he must move on.
Isn't it Buddy's mother that he dislikes the most? Because she left him when he was 5 but his father stayed and he said that overall he was an ok father.
Isn't it Buddy's mother that he dislikes the most? Because she left him when he was 5 but his father stayed and he said that overall he was an ok father.
@AcrossTh3Universe Didn't know you were his therapist...I thought it was just a song. Since when did every song have to actually mean something? People these days....
Yeah, that's what they all say. I guess yr the genius though! What do I know? I just enjoy the band and their lyrics, unlike you and the rest of the fuckin' world. If you watched the interviews he said the songs are written so other people can find a meaning for themselves. So...what were you saying again? xD
i was commenting on you saying that this song was written with no meaning, when clearly it has a meaning to buddy. a very potent one. now as for him saying that others can find meaning. obviously. my father didnt walk out on my family, but i find this song very meaningful in other ways.
so contrats on completely contradicting what you were saying in your other comment.
@AcrossTh3Universe I"m not so sure he's talking about his actual dad. Both of his parents love him. I think he's trying to sing a song that connects to any of his fans that have terrible dads....or any family member really. But I'm not sure.
@AcrossTh3Universe Absolutely right. Lines like "I'm afraid I'll be like you one day", "your own daughter barely knows your face" and "everything you passed down to me, the stiff right hand, this fucking disease" all point to this...
This is probably my favorite song on the CD. So much intensity and hatred! I think it's a man's internal struggle with his faith. His screaming lyrics are calling out Jesus for being a coward and letting down humanity. "Jesus Christ, look what you've done. Abandoning everyone that you should love, you fucking failed me." Those a quite possibly the most intense lyrics I've ever heard in my life!!
@TheGNards Eh actually that verse only he is calling out jesus letting him down with his father. The song itself is about his father, but i suppose you could make out of it whatever you choose to.

1. This is about his dad. Like many of his songs.
2. If you knew where they got the name "Senses Fail" you would obiously know He's Atheist/Agnostic.
3. Supporting #2. If you've listened to "The Rapture" You miiiiight just think he hates religion.
4. This is the greatest band in existance. Buddy is a legend.
5. The only genre I can come to think of when I hear them, is Life Saving.
6. Don't trash them if you don't like them. There still doing something you could never do.
7. Read #4 again

@AngelzOfKaos I agree that this is about his dad, but:
1. They got the name from Buddhism, not atheism.
2. "The Rapture" isn't about how he flat out hates religion. It's about him struggling with the faith he grew up with.
Just saying.
