  • I've concluded Andy Kauffman is not a genious, and was probablly more of an idiot than anything. Thats just going by eye witness accounts of people who were around back then

  • I found those screb-ends under ploughboy's armpits much more disgusting.

  • I get what he's trying to do. It's just not really funny. I mean, I know he's trying to evoke emotions in people, and that's what we're laughing at, the people watching rather than Andy. However.. It's just not daring enough. Maybe it was daring in those days.

  • @Jontman07 Of course it was daring in those days. You had to be alive in the late 1970s to realize now how constrained we were then. When Andy was working on things like this, the word 'pregnant' had been allowed on the air for less than a decade. If a TV character uttered the word "Damn!" people still cringed. Kaufman was so far ahead of his time that no one, and I mean no one, knew what to make of him. It was like Marty McFly going back to 1955.

  • Kaufman was a genius this is hilarious!

  • "Oh, he's playing with the medium" XD

A genius in chemistry solves chemical problems, a mathematics genius solves mathematics problems, and a TV genius grasps it so well he is able to re-invent it

  • "connect the dots". He IS a lot smarter than we give him credit for.

  • 0:45 mmm look at the skin tags under his armpit

    delicious

  • i dont think andy was funny.but thats only me. maybe i just dont get it???

  • @tryby12

He wasn't 'HaHa' funny.. he was 'genius' funny.

  • Members only jacket

  • 79 people fucked their computer screens up with permanent marker ;)

  • shit i got permanent marker on my screen >:/.. Oh well. At least it kind of looked like he was in a boat...

  • There is a hidden inside joke here that Kaufman puts over--in the TV industry "on the beach" means when you get fired and are between jobs...hence, the island! Hahaha...Andy was brilliant...

  • I don't get it & I feel sorry for anyone who actually gets it.

  • @june057 I feel sorry for your mother having to give birth to such a dumb ass

  • *derogatory hand gesture* Oh, he's playing with the medium.

  • Probably cause its before my time (im 21) but this wasnt funny to me in the slightest...then again theres a lot of funny stuff from the 80s to me so I dunno...

  • @Potatiskatapulten If you think he was trying to be funny, you don't get the joke.

  • Maurice Butch Steward rocked actually ;) He would've fit well with Zappa

It's too bad Andy got lost. Glad we saved him by connecting the dots.

Are you connecting the dots? Are you getting on the boat? Get on the boat people!

    Get out of this shithole!

I just said sorry to a plate

    Andy rocks!

    :)

    Peace!

  • seriously fucking brilliant.

  • Holy fucking god, he had the audience draw him a boat. This man is my hero.

  • Why Morris Brown, I didn't make you wanna scream did I?

  • man that decade must have been pretty gd lame for this guy to have been considered entertaining

  • @DCKar2nist Different time different sense of humor. Just because you don't get it, doesn't make it bad.

  • @NeLoen surprisingly civil for the internet, maybe your right

  • Andy was a one trick pony. All he did were stunts that were staged and then people wondered if it was real or not. Sad.

  • @thegoosebrain the guy was a genius, pay some respect.

  • @jingeshan24 genius? no, just boring. His humour is different from mainstream i agree, but he's way too often just simply boring

  • @jingeshan24 genius once, boring every other one of the thousand times he did the same damn thing.

  • @kingcrimson234 i liked it every time he did it.

the guy didn't try to amuse or entertain you, he entertained himself.

  • @jingeshan24 people keep saying that...

  • Genius lol. I guess this was like Jackass back then? Sad..

  • @StoneyMcJuicyBuds

    You are disgusting.

  • @StoneyMcJuicyBuds are fuckin' racist or what?

  • The show I remember was a lot worse than this, they were cautious about letting him come back on the show, there was a sword swollower doing his act,he had a sword down his throat, then Andy walked up to him and hit the end of the sword handle ,then blood gushed out,Andy was yelling it was all a fake act, then the show went to a commercial, then the show ended 30min early with no explaination, then they showed Andy tied up with rope,he was crying and appologizing and it was the last time he worked...

  • Bought this on DVD. Best thing I ever spent money on. Period.

  • A few years after this event, Stan Frazier joined WWF as Hillbilly Jim's Uncle Elmer. He later worked for them as Kamala II, a white version of Kamala the Ugandan Headhunter. And like Andy, Stan is now no longer with us. Oddly enough, according to Freddie Blassie, Stan was not well-liked by the other wrestlers because he used to travel with a case of "knock-off" watches that didn't work right and was always trying to con people into buying them, claiming that they were Rolexes or whatever.

  • I LOVE PBS SOMETIMES !!.. they really do it right... this came at a time when ABC had enough of Kaufman, and he comes back with this... briiliant stuff !

  • wow hes terrible....glad hes gone

  • @stupaod don't you find it suspicious that you dont have a dad around? it's because your mom got butrapped by andy and hes your daddy

  • @epicseeds

    I guess I went too far ;)

  • @stupaod Idiot

  • 59 people took Andy seriously? What are their names and where do they live? It's 59 too many and it's 59 who missed the point.

  • @richardabbott1966 they must be american

  • I want more of Morris "Butch" Stewart

  • early tim and eric

  • Is that Uncle Junior at 0:52

  • @Gafzan Cousin Elmer

  • @Derby14 You and Gafzan are both wrong - it's "Uncle" Elmer.

  • HAHAHAAHA OMG :D:D:D

  • genius

  • uncle elmer

  • I want that Tony Clifton puppet.

  • I see where Tim and Eric get their inspiration. Tim even sounds like Kaufman.

  • @69AfroThunda69 Come to think of it, you're quite correct! Interesting.

  • Meanwhile, back at the studio, anarchy reigns!

  • I see a lot of Monty Python in this.

  • they see me trollin,

    they hatin

  • Ladies and gentlemen, the original troll.

  • maybe, just maybe he didn't die and is now in the Caribbean?

  • Tim and Eric my ass, Tom Green was the real successor to The Kauf Man.

  • Uncle Elmer!

  • His show sucked and he was just a weird dude,,,no comical genius just strange.

  • @scubaman44406 There was no genius in being the first person to acknowledge on-screen and poke fun at the medium of television? Really?

  • @scubaman44406 Its just a character. If you ever watched him do other characters, you'd see how varied he could be. The fact that you believe this to be legitimate insanity is his mastery. Kaufman is in complete control here, he knows exactly what he is doing, down to every eye movement and facial twitch. it takes a real comic genius to make people laugh without saying anything, having anything prepared, or even really do anything. He's a special talent.

  • Wow, there's such a strangeness in his eyes!

  • Anybody recognize Stan "Plowboy" Frazier from his much better known wrestling persona of "Uncle Elmer" in the WWF/E circa 1985 with "Hillbilly Jim" & "Cousin Junior"?

  • WOW. I did not realize Tim & Eric was simply an attempted continuation of Andy Kaufman's short-lived TV special. I will now barf my pants, just for fun. Both are great shows.

  • definitely tim and eric i love that shit

  • hehe its like hes making fun of blues clues, although it hadnt happened yet. this guys brain works weird.

  • Tim and Eric can thank this guy for letting stupidity pass for comedy. They can all thank Samuel Beckett.

  • @gnortznitz Man, with the negativity. Your disbelief cord snapped a while ago, didn't it?

  • Better off than on these reality-infected days,,,,

  • andy kaufman gives not only his impression of people, but of comedians and himself.

everyone gets to die with kaufman lol

  • funny that I see rasalghul and yada post and defame in several Kaufman vids but can't stand the man. why don't you watch things you like, and let those with an IQ higher than 500 enjoy Andy.

  • @rgrwaters5 lol an IQ higher than 500!

  • you jealous fuckers didn't connect the dots and because of you hes still there

  • @Mike1614b what are you taking about

  • totally see him as a tim & eric influence

  • @desertandy I was Totally Thinking the same thing

  • Well there rasalghul5555 sounds like you're the one who needs to douche. First your mouth, then your brain! Taking a cheap shot at a dead guy who was funnier and smarter than you'll ever be! You are nothing but a TROLL Loser! I'd love to say a few more choice things to you, but it is You Tube, so out of Respect for them I will defer, Respect. That's a big word I doubt you have the first clue about. It's the opposite of what you wasted your time Posting on here. You stink real bad you fool!

  • @ZEEMADMAN hey pal fuck you

  • @yada147258 so true. best comedian ever

  • 59 people took andy seriously

  • @voondebayosh annnnd one person can't count up to 62

  • @dvdsmlprstylr

lol one person cant fathom me making that comment 3 months ago XD silly child

  • @voondebayosh LOL, one person "can't fathom" the concept of a joke, so I'll help him/her out...

Noun - something said or done to provoke laughter or cause amusement, as a witticism, a short and amusing anecdote, or a prankish act.

Verb - to speak, write or act something in fun or teasing rather than in earnest.

XD silly child <<<<< sarcastic remark quoting the person. Let's hope you can fathom sarcasm. LOL haha :) ;) XD B) O_o

  • @voondebayosh 74 people know true comedy

  • he enters new dimensions

  • wonder what Andy Kaufman would've thought about 2 Girls and a Cup?

  • Cohen is a dick and fart guy not even close to the same level as these old school comedians.

  • @ILiveInMomsBasement The foundation in his humour was the lack of irony in americans. He was then and now, obviously, right.

  • @ILiveInMomsBasement

You haven't looked at much of Cohen's stuff, have you? Ali G (not the movie, the TV segments) was just dicks and farts?

  • don't even compare sasha baron cohen to this guy. Sasha, and by extension, borat and bruno and ali g don't come close to this guy. Those three characters don't have any dimension. They're just the same stuff packaged in a different wrapper. Kaufman developed his characters into separate distinguishable beings, and i don't believe cohen has the same vision kaufman did.

  • I compare Sasha Baron Cohen to Andy Kaufman both liked to get fans reactions to their work. For every Tony Clifton there was Borat

  • tim and eric?..comparing them to dried dog turds is still giving them too much credit

  • man... i just realized something. Pee-wee Herman stole this shit. Connect the dots... lalalalala...

  • @chonyc77

So, watching Andy Kaufman is "torcher"?

    ARE YOU A FUCKING RETARD?!

    WTF IS "TORCHER," you moron?!

Maybe you meant "torture" but because you flunked out of school in first grade, spelling it was beyond your ability.

Man, it must suck to be so fucking ignorant.

  • @marty800,

How do you set out to type "hat off" and end up adding an "e" and turning it into "hate"?!

  • Andy Kaufman is a genious performer and is in no way crazy or insane. Everything he does is spoof, and is done very, very well. Watch Man On the Moon. Jim Carrey does an amazing job too, hate off to him as well.

  • look at uncle elmer with his fake ass rolex on philo beddoe would have whooped his ass yell

  • Andy Kaufman's ways of artistic expression are more difficult for people to understand than that of most of today's money-driven media-slaves, which sadly explains why he was and is so underrated and unknown. It also explains why some people dismiss him as "crazy" or "stupid", as most people who aren't on a level of artistic or universal comprehension high enough put blame on the performer for not understanding his or her message (rather than trying to get to the point of understanding).

  • @vv901vv901 That's funny because his thinking outside the box is about as creative as a twelve year old with angst...which would explain why he was easily dismissed.

  • @zbuchho1

No, most people just didn't get him or understood the circumstances under which he was performing. Kaufman was operating on an artistic level that was almost unheard of back then, and is even less so today with all the mainstream junk that's reducing our capability to grasp art. Most people are unfortunately not all they could be and should be, but I'm not saying it's their fault. Listen to David Icke. Peace.

  • @vv901vv901 No....it's pretty easy to understand self-indulgent practical jokes. It's painfully unfunny & boring. Really all he lacks in most sketches is a varsity jacket and a group of laughing lackies. Funny...is the fact that he died of a serious diseases, and that ultimately overshadowed his career despite how much you people try to exonerate him. Haha His life is like a bad production of the boy who cried wolf!

  • this crap is even stupider..er...er..than monty python !

  • Playing with the medium lmao! Then he actually does.... Kaufman was hilarious and genious..

  • Definitely the Galifianakis of his day.

  • fucking people will laugh at anything ...even with good dope this shit is about as funny as a heart attack

  • @oxytrebor

Yeah I watched Kaufman back in those days and never understood why anyone thought he was funny. Fucker was stupid and boring. Finally got voted off Saturdau Night Live and that was a wake up call for him that the public really didn't like him. Then he died.

  • like Dora the explorer! :p

  • I love when he's on the island. It's like Andy Kaufman meets Steve Mcqueen in Papillon =]

which happen to be my two favorite people

  • DAMN! Eddie Murphy was dark back then! :o

  • what's this show or movie called?

  • @PrzepraszamPomylka @PrzepraszamPomylka It was an ABC special called "Andy's Funhouse," taped in 1977 and broadcast in 1979. Hard to imagine anything like this being shown on TV today. Even back then, the network execs didn't like it, but they had to show it cause it in his contract that he got a special.

  • Except for Latka Gravas I never really got Kaufmans humor. That was the thing about Kaufman, the people who watched him they either thought he was a genius or they thought he was an asshole, you loved him or you hated him, there was no middle ground. But I do give him thanks for one thing: I am a major wrestling fan, have been for nearly 30 years, and it was Andy Kaufman and Jerry Lawler who got me started.

  • @FerretJohn kinda like wrestling huh? love it or hate it, no in between... you either get it or you don't. Hmm, interesting.

  • @tenillechristine hmm, yeah, I guess you could say that. Pro wrestling is like performance art, but with sexy women and massive violence :)

  • The "singer" at 2:17 is ripping off James Brown... badly

  • that wrestler looks like jeff bridges... somehow

  • That wouldnt get you kicked off television these days

  • @Useyno You dip shit. He didn't actually get kicked of television.

  • best andy thing!

  • Pretty lame

  • Hey does anyone know if this on dvd. And if so, where can I find it?

  • Definitely got his roots in Brechtian theatre

  • i fuckin hate brechtian

  • 0:51 Junior Soprano? lol

  • 2:21 Nice Members Only Jacket!

  • @TheJomogogo

That was the point of it.

  • oh andy..if only you were around to see the cool stuff today...

  • omg this is awesome

  • funny but sad

  • anarchy reigns!

  • This has to be the greatest thing I've ever seen him do. But then of course each video I see I feel that way. I want to see the rest of the sketch!

  • Its almost like he was using the audience for his entertainment. Pushing buttons and seeing the reaction of people.

  • @717mienbao

God yes. In my opinion all his acts were sarcastic and aimed at him laughing at his audience... almost in contempt you might say.

  • Yeah! Wasn't he brilliant?!

  • i see an influence from andy towards tim and eric

  • @BloodCrustSupperTime

Maybe if Tim and Eric did something other than just make out with eachother constantly and do bad faux edits of dorky people. It was funny the first time, but all they have to fill is 15 minutes and they're STILL doing the same thing after, what, 3 years now? Joke is on Adult Swim for waiting on them to do something funny again. Last great sketch was the Robin Williams. RIP Tim and Eric.

Also, they have nothing on Kaufman by a mile.

  • @BloodCrustSupperTime YES YES YES!!!!!!! I was a huge fan of Andy Kaufman prior to hearing about Tim and Eric, and clearly I fell in love with that show the second I saw it.

  • @BloodCrustSupperTime

Yeah me too. Huge influence. Tim And Eric are very much in that style.

  • @BloodCrustSupperTime i srsly want to gouge out your eyes for saying that... sorry. i just hate that show so much.

  • @BloodCrustSupperTime Except Tim and Eric like Sega Saturn.

  • @BloodCrustSupperTime yeah probably, but at least any didnt suck

  • @BloodCrustSupperTime i see an influence on every comedian. haha hes a legend

  • @BloodCrustSupperTime; Tim and Eric are talentless hacks, Kaufman was an absolute comedic genius.

  • @P5eudonym VERY TRUE

  • He's playing with the medium, hahaha.

  • man on the moon is actuoly a pretty good bio of his life

  • So that's where Pee-Wee got the idea.

  • he and others

  • The man was an original

  • kaufman was way ahead of his time, i think he liked pissin people off more than making them laugh, wich is a fuckin brave thing to do in them days, love his acts tho funny as hell

  • wonder here sacha baren cohen got his ideas from

  • pftt whatever.... Iwodnr where ANDY got his ideas form? blah blah blah

  • Hunter S. Thompson did the same and Gonzo Journalism was born. Great minds think alike.

  • great artist! this is far more than comedy ist performance art

  • he wasnt a comedian. he was a performance artist. he thought outside the box.

  • Comment removed

  • @reh629 dada !! :D

  • @reh629 He did performance art ABOUT performance art...

  • @reh629 - he was a fucking psycho fag

  • @reh629

he was a song and dance man! haha

  • @reh629 The best I could give is that he is a comedic entertainer and artist.
