You are analyzing just one take, if they would have done it again, it would have been very different. This is something I noticed with gay singers : we are focusing too much on details and lose track of the big picture. We over-prononce, we produce fake vibrato and fake emotions. Like Liza said : it's not "how?", it's "why?" Like great acting, great singing comes from the inside and we should'nt be too concerned with details, we should be focused what we are singing.

Hi Seth! I've seen you on "My life on the D-list" with Kathy Griffin. I thought you were great on the show and was impressed by your piano playing. Also, I envy you so much for knowing Kathy, I think she's the greatest human being on earth!

Being a professionnal singer myself, I have to disagree with your approach of deconstructing other's singer work note by note. Why do that?

Hey Seth, " vocal damage " or no "vocal damage " ... You are forgetting to mention a few of points about the duet..The MAIN thing is that you are NOT showing them singing in the first place ! The main fact however that you fail to mention is that regardless of what part of Judy;s career she is at there, ( one 2 years after Carnegie Hall ) she knocks Barbra out of the water in every aspect of the song !! Judy knows her way around the songs better , sounds better , looks better singing it ! xo

those are exactly the same faces as i make when i lip sync this medley! Love the song, just got 4 episodes of the judy garland show on dvd, including the barbra episode, and the liza episode(which is adorable!)

By the way, I think that what's supposed to be judy's "vocal damage" sounds good! I love Judy, love love love love loooooooove JUDY!! <3<3<3

Judy Garland must be one of the most misunderstood artistes of all time. There are many myths surrounding the woman and her talents as a singer. I will just say this: When she was singing on her worst day her power and charisma outshone many a singer on their best day. Despite "vocal damage" Garland's phrasing and pitch were impeccable. Her duets with Streisand (and others) also demonstrate Garland's generosity to her stage/video companions. She was also a sensitive and intelligent woman.

I totally agree that "The Night and the Music" moment is the highlight, but you didn't mention my favorite part which is Barbra's and the audience's reaction to it right along with Judy looking quite pleased with herself and a little bow! Stunning.

I loves me my SETH! Met him this summer at a taping of his show in NY at "Don't Tell Mama." He's amazing. And I understand the love/hate early/later Barbra connundrum. If you love Show biz, buy his book "Broadway Nights." It's a total guilty pleasure (speaking of which, come on Seth, Hideaway is pretty damn incredible...) and you'll read it in a sitting if you're not careful. The best and funnest "backstage" showbiz account I've read in a very long time.

Because Barbra, um, changed POST 1980. Seth calls it "pre-1980" ... I think of it as her Malibu-Barbie period.

Before she moved to LA, she was an original, you'll never believe how fucking amazing these songs are singer ... POST 1980 she became an I'm-God-And-You-Must-Love-Me entertainer.

haha you definitely havent watched a lot of Seth's videos then have you? The best part of them are his lip synching! Plus most of the stuff he does is just from cast recordings so there aren't videos to accompany the songs....

Very funny! I love when you deconstruct Barbra. I think I know every song of hers and each note, too - so when you deconstruct her I know exactly what's coming & it's so funny to hear your observations.
