  • this belle sounds great, perfect speaking voice for Belle. the beast should be a bit more timid and not so sprightly i guess.

  • fantastic. every video i have watched shows that this play was done incredibly. My favorite by far

  • The only thing I would change with this scene is Belle sitting with her back to the audience, have her face forward a bit more. Other than that, a great scene. One of my favorites.

  • Random question... did the theatre have to pay extra in rights to do the production so close to how it's done on Broadway (i.e. costumes/set). My friends and I have been wondering about this; we've heard mixed things.

  • Not that I know of. I have never heard of anyone ever having to do that. I have never seen this show done, so everything was unique or new to me.

  • Gotcha. I mean, from the standpoint of a designer, it irks me when productions copy the set and costumes from broadway. Especially when productions try to mimic how the actors do lines and things (because I HAAATED Steve Blanchard's Beast so I cringe when I see highschoolers trying to do that).

  • I like to see original sets and blocking because I think there were a lot of things in the Broadway version that could be fixed that a smaller theatre can do because they don't have to play to the almighty dollar sign. lol

  • That being said, I don't think you were mimicing (mimicking?) anyone with your delivery... so please don't misconstrue my comments... I'm just making conversation. lol

  • I appreciate your point, but unless your director wants to take it a completely different way the show will almost always resemble the original i.e. Belle's yellow dress, the Beast's cape etc. Like you, I also dislike when actors attempt to use the same tone and rhythm as an actor they have already seen.I am glad that you wrote that last comment recognizing that I was not mimicking (you were correct on the second spelling attempt) any other Beast.

  • ... not quite. Simply having a different set and not using the same blocking (as done with having you both sit on the edge of the library like that) makes it different. As far as costumes, not using the same design as the broadway production makes it different. Yes, it's a yellow dress, but it's not the same yellow dress. But copying costumes annoys me less that blatantly taking choreography or blocking. I just feel bad for Costume designers when that happens.
