I don't think it's so much a shot at education as it is saying that making something of yourself can still be a success without the education. Kind of like how "Born to Run" shows that in a dark moment in life, there's a light at the end of the highway and if you run for it, it, too, can be yours.

Alfunk is correct. The theme of this album is meant to be a deliver a black eye at a country that supposedly prided itself on the premise of equality for all men. Just take a moment and listen to the lyrics of "Born in the U. S. A.", and you'll see what I'm talking about.
